I'm sorry I'm sorry. We just had a scene where a gay character pours his heart out and leaves everything out on the table, where he is able to accept himself and finally verbalize what is his biggest secret to all of his friends and family and realize that it was never about whether or not a boy liked him back that it was always about him and have everyone embrace him in the end for being exactly who he is... and people are hating it because it maybe hints that a ship won't happen.

Look, I do understand why people are disappointed or upset, but I think people also need to look at what that entire scene was saying and not just one little detail of it.

The point is that it's a coming of age 80s show. It's about nostalgia and how growing up can be wild and fantastical.

For the coming of age part, El had to leave. She can't stay and have the characters grow. Just like ET left, the friends in Stand By Me all drift apart, and the Goonies don't stay on the pirate ship. You have your adventure, it changes you, and then the catalyst of the change often leaves.

Maybe all you kids will understand when you're older. You keep in touch with the people you can, but mostly the important friends you have in your teen years will drift away. Are those four really meeting up in Philly? Maybe a handful of times. But then there's work and kids and an event you can't miss. And then suddenly you realize a decade has passed since you last saw your best friend.

"But what about X character that was in two episodes?" It literally does not matter from a storytelling perspective. People flow in and out of our lives all the time. You all really think Suzie and Dustin kept in touch in the pre-internet era? Absolutely not. And Robin kind of sucked as a girlfriend - I imagine Vickie left her for someone who could keep dates and didn't prioritize her bestie Steve over you.
