So I was rewatching Lord Of The Rings recently, and when the Gray Havens scene appeared I noticed something. All of the hugs Frodo gives are different.

When he hugs Merry, he hugs him as a friend. He regards him as an equal, as family. Their hugs are the same for eachother, not hugging too tightly nor too loosely. They have known each other for so long its almost as if they are each other.

When he hugs Pippin, he hugs him like a parent, or older brother. Pippin is the youngest of the hobbits, only a tween by their standards. He hugs him like he's protecting him, and Pippin is upset, so he burys his face in Frodo's shoulder.

When he hugs Sam, he hugs him like a lifeline. A best friend. They hug each other as if the other is better than them. They relied each other to survive in Mordor, and when they returned that dependency did not fade. They hug each other like they can't bear to let go.
