When it comes to choosing my cosplays, a lot of the time i base it on upcoming events and the budget I have in the moment. I’m also just trying to cosplay all the characters I loved as a child. Like with Thumbelina and Sleeping beauty, it felt amazing to live out my dream of being my favorite childhood Heroines♡
I also like trying cosplays that will make me learn new techniques. It’s always fun trying a new tutorial with a wig like Thumbelina, or a steel boned corset. For corsets I prefer steel boning as plastic tends to take a shape and stick that way.
For the wig I used a tutorial by Kinpatsu cosplay on youtube and yeah, everything else is by choice. I chose more fancy fabrics to jazz it up a bit, but some cosplayers prefer it plainer so they could do it how they like.
You can also buy seperate pieces by doing a white leotard, aqua underbust corset and circle skirt rather than make it. I also tend to buy cheap wigs for cosplay. Arda Wigs is nice if you have the money for it but most of my wigs are from chinese cosplay sites for cheap and they havent failed me yet. I also use Cosplay bhiner! Its a taobao agent so they also have cosplays, accessories etc for cheap. I got a cardcaptor sakura wig from there for about 30 with shipping!
When it comes to being a black cosplayer, I don’t encounter any problems that a cosplayer of another color wouldn’t go through. I tend not to think that way when it comes to cosplay. Just like a white person can do it, so can I.
