Not just the fault of the current admin.
Anyway another thing about restorative/reformative justice models is that they'll never fully live up to their stated ideals in a system that's otherwise built to enable abuse and create imbalanced power dynamics.
That's why you can't just roughly slap "we should simply forgive people! :D" onto the existing system and expect it to work out. These issues are actually complicated.
You can't just Principle Of Reform And Restorative Justice your way out of a situation where someone has a history of abusing a position of power that they're still in.
You can, in fact, simultaneously acknowledge these two things:
Punitive models of incarceration have worse rates of recidivism than reformist models, and arbitrary enforcement of "tough on crime" laws is a major component of the continued oppression of, for example, Black people in the US
Sometimes there's a person who's got too much power and influence, uses that power to do enormous amounts of harm, and could regain power through their influence if stripped of power. You have to solve that problem, and sometimes the only viable solution is going to be to put them in a cell and throw away the key. In most cases right now, this doesn't even happen to begin with, and so on the few occasions where it does happen, it can't be a priority to attempt to reform those people in particular.
Oh, and also:
Discussions of alternatives to carceral justice are serious political theory that this website treats like a proxy war for fandom nonsense. As such, it's worth pointing out that the answer to the question "should you be obligated to continue supporting an e-celeb who's done harm?" is "there is literally no situation where you, as a private individual simply using the Internet, are morally obligated to go out of your way to interact with any e-celeb in any way whatsoever."
May 31 2016 - Collin Kennedy, who is a cancer patient, used expanding spray foam to disable a parking meter at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg where he gets his treatment. He says the fees are a tax on the sick. [video]
yes!!!!!!!!
Lots of well-intentioned (I hope) but extremely condescending comments in the notes like “maybe don’t film yourself doing crime.” Respectfully… This man knew what he was doing. He didn’t just film himself, he invited media to film him. He did this to make his own statement, with his own voice, with his own face. He wanted himself and his actions to be visible.
Collin Kennedy died in 2018, just two years after this video was taken. What would anonymity have achieved for him in those last two years? Avoiding punishment? His whole point was that these parking fees are already a punishment on the sick.
Is public protest dangerous? Sure. Is it more dangerous than merely existing as a sick or disabled person navigating a hostile healthcare system? I think that is for every individual experiencing it to decide for themselves.
A Winnipeg man who filled a city parking meter with spray foam to protest the high cost of parking for sick people around hospitals has died
Collin Kennedy, 50, lived with multiple myeloma — a type of blood cancer — for 19 years.
He invited media to watch him fill a parking meter with spray foam to raise awareness about the high costs of parking for cancer patients and other sick people getting treatment. Video of Kennedy vandalizing the meter was widely shared on social media. It led to a Canada-wide petition to end the practice of charging for parking near hospitals.
He was a man who fought the only way he knew how, even if that meant taking matters into his own hands and disabling parking meters. He wasn’t in the boardrooms or corridors of power, he was on the streets trying to make a difference. (CBC News, December 12, 2018)

One of the best letters I’ve ever seen just popped up on my Facebook memories. Still makes me laugh.
As today is the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, it’s a great time to revisit Dinah from Devon’s memory of this historic event. And yes, still makes me laugh.
Today is the 54th anniversary of the moon landing, but Dinah’s diary entry is still absolutely magnificent.
57th anniversary of the moon landing and the best diary entry in the history of diary entries. Sit down Samuel Pepys, it’s over. UGH.
Help Thomaserena support multiple Sudanese families and a community kitchen
Thomaserena has been organizing to help several Sudanese families, some who have relocated to Egypt and others that remain in Sudan. In addition to these families, he is also helping a community kitchen afford their operating costs so they can continue to serve displaced families with no where else to turn for meals, clean water, and shelter.
The monthly goals are 72k on gfm for the families and 28k on chuffed for the kitchen.
The operating cost of the kitchen continues to increase due to rising inflation and the ongoing water shortage. Thomaserena unfortunately had to dig himself deeper into dept last month to help the kitchen afford water tankers after donations were not enough to cover the costs. We cannot leave this burden to Thomaserena to carry alone. Please step up to help by donating what you can.
As a Sudanese living in Egypt, my heart aches every day for the people of Sudan - both those still enduring unimaginable hardship back hoke,

Thomaserena is vetted on SudanFunds.com and has been shared by Sara (bsonblast). If you check the updates section on gfm and chuffed, you can also find proof of the transfers ThomaSerena has made.
why is it always a male character going mad avenging his dead wife and never a female character cradling her dying pure of heart husband in her arms then dragging the whole world down with her
First of all, this is a very clever use of this gif. Secondly, fuck you.
Israel systematically targets the health of pregnant mothers and infants in Gaza. This is a reality every parent in Gaza knows. It has also been confirmed repeatedly by others. Pediatric healthcare professionals in Gaza have been bravely speaking out about how Israel is currently using restrictions of formula into Gaza to torture and kill Palestinian babies.
Can you cite the specific page in that linked source that discusses this, it's a lot to read through and I can't find it from the table of contents
