haha I have been thinking about this actually. The weird route is all about breaking connections or perverting them, sacrificing the characters well being for the goal the player has: proceeding. This is exactly what is happening with Spamtenna as well. In the normal route, it's at least possible to reunite Spamtenna. In the weird route that is straight up impossible because Spamton is dead...

Been thinking about how the weird route basically removes the possibility of defying fate by reuniting Spamtenna ... But that's an unfinished thought that doesn't exactly add up with the idea that you ARE actually breaking the prophecy in the weird route

YEAH! I actually edited my reblog a bit ago to add this:

I can’t stop thinking about how Tenna’s “betrayal” of Spamton is what led to the weird route even being possible— yet people will still say Spamtenna isn’t relevant to Deltarune’s story or themes at all.

Everything very intentionally parallels each other! Spamtenna is absolutely connected to the narrative and themes of Deltarune on a fundamental level, and I’m surprised more people haven’t realized this or analyzed it.

Anyhow, about your tags; I have been thinking about that as well. Especially since the mantle game with the weird route is the original, as opposed to the edited version by Tenna with none of the violence.

I'm not sure what to think about it honestly but at the same time it's kind of really .uh. An overly obvious hint that the mantle game is the original. But at the same time??? It's supposed to be a secret route that is reminiscent of videogame playground rumour????

Considering the amount of metatextual association with Kris and Noelle, both queer characters, being forced into a heteronormative romantic relationship in the weird route with all the goddamn rings makes me think about it's ... Kind of like forcing them into a "traditional relationship". The normal route is all about defying the status quo, so what if it's enforced it instead? I had the sudden thought that the player is like the oppressor taking away the agency of the oppressed, creating a situation that gives the Player all the power. It's exploitive of the two under the player, where they both lose autonomy and especially Kris loses their personhood in favour of being a vessel for the player. The player gets more power over what happens, just like fate itself...

And the weird route hurts the potential relationship between Noelle and Susie because they get less bonding time... The puzzle pieces are puzzling...
