Lady Helena ‘Open-Legs’ Thornbury — Navigator, when sober. A disgraced noble. A lecherous, self-pitying alcoholic who clings to her youth. Her derogatory nickname was given to her by Mary.
Ola Wide-Eyes and Chuckles — Ola is the lookout, and in charge of rigging the sails. Despite her harrowed appearance, she’s arguably one of the friendlier women on the ship, though she has a few screws loose from decades out in the Great Blue. Her pet gull Chuckles speaks in riddles and has human teeth and eyes. She refuses to explain why beyond ‘an accident’ that occurred before she boarded the Curdled.
Jesse Harding — A keen swordswoman, fiercely competitive and loyal to Captain Bonnie. Really, really loves swords, and knives, and sharp things in general. A sadomasochist.
Captain Bonnie — The Captain, one held to the same reverence by her crew as a beloved mother. Jovial, mad and brutal. She has a taste for theatrics, and loves a good fight, enthused to the point of genuine derangement when she senses a worthy opponent.
Doctor Mary-Ann Typhany — The surgeon of the ship. Does not have a medical license and really shouldn’t have one. Slimy, erratic and untrustworthy, collects medical wonders and does not practice proper GCP. Helps herself to soothing syrup and medicinal coke. A simpering bully to everyone but the captain.
Queenie Dillons — The ship cook. Hates her job. The other women respect her (even Mary, begrudgingly). A chronic smoker, a widow and a nihilist.
Sammie Spitfire — The master gunner. A tiny yet vicious old woman with a love for firearms. Her and Jesse have a friendly rivalry.
Ginny Swailes — The cabin girl. Fearful and timid. Was under the custody of her grandfather, a famous composer, before they were kidnapped from a civilian passenger ship during a raid. Queenie has a soft spot for her, and Mary is needlessly cruel towards her. A shy yet precocious girl at heart, though trauma has made her highly anxious and withdrawn. She tries to protect her grandpa despite her diminutiveness.
Oswald Swailes — A composer kidnapped by Bonnie to be the crew’s personal musician, and their scribe/lector (most of the ship is illiterate, Mary is educated but unreliable). Overworked to the point of perpetual exhaustion. Misses his wife, terrified for his granddaughter, who he is occasionally rewarded with seeing. Has a drinking problem due to his circumstances, encouraged by Helena.
