“To my phone, but essentially, yes. Since it cannot respond, stupid technology.”
"Well, someone could respond if you, uh, y'know...used it. Besides, you don't have Siri?"
"They tie string around their fingers? How strange…
Does it change color or anything? I can’t see it would serve as a very good reminder if it didn’t. And I don’t often spend time looking at the inside of my palm…perhaps I’ll just stay the same then. Even if same is rather boring. I just don’t think I’ll remember to not be the same. At least in doing homework. Then again, I doubt you would think homework is the most exciting of things either, would you.”
"I don't pretend to understand the muggle ways, that's just what I saw in a magazine or...book, or something."
"I don't mind some homework, but I detest it when it's for a class I already find uninteresting."
“Dear phone, you have been degraded to a mirror, since you won’t work anyway. At least the eyeliner’s on point.”
"Talking to yourself?"
"Well if they had us for less time, where would their money come from? We are just here to keep wallets fat, are we not? I’d rather be exceptional in one area than well rounded in all. What is the point in being good at a thing that I’ll most likely never do again?"
"I hadn't even thought of that, really. But I guess you're right. Yes, exactly! Though focusing my efforts on one thing for years sounds a bit dull, but I think maybe three or four things would keep it more interesting. So long as all the pointless classes are eliminated, I'll be happy. Maybe we should start our own school."
"Its not a skeleton if it’s right out in the open. Grandmother likes to display her crazy for the world, only she think it’s perfectly normal. I’ll try to remember that."
"Oh. She sounds...eccentric. My grandmother just...sips wine and talks about how she much prefers when my hair is down, but out of my face."
"Unless the demand for rat cups goes up, I’ll live without it. Then again at least that isn’t as bad as the most pointless of classes: Arithmancy. And Trollinger is so boring I can feel myself dying in his class. Just slowly losing myself to the eternal sleep the more he drones on about numbers."
"It seems like we take a daunting number of pointless classes that waste our time. I mean, if we cut all those out and simply focused on the necessities, we'd probably be out of here in a few less years, don't you think? Or even if we were here just as long, we'd be more skilled in those things. Who cares about being 'well rounded individuals' anyway?"
"He who fulfills his own prophecy. Latin.
And what if I forget to try it out once I’m in the future? The…heat of the moment, I guess you could say?”
"Oh. Latin. Cool."
"Well, you do that weird muggle trick and tie a string around your finger so you know there's something to remember? Or just write it in your palm. Or just carry on the way you always have, since that's what works for you?"
That entire speech you just made, made absolutely no sense and gave me a slight headache.Â
Sounds like a personal problem. Just because you didn't understand it doesn't mean it didn't make sense. I don't really know how to explain the damn charm much simpler than that.
"Just call me Mina, or something, anything but that pretentious family name. Wilhemina is my crazy as hell grandmother, and I’m nothing like her."
"Every family has their...skeletons, I suppose. Mina it is, because I'm far too lazy and uncreative to come up with something else. Mallory is fine for me, for the record."
"It’s a bit more reliable than crystal balls. They’re not so different, see. Just waiting and watching and doing something that defines someone’s future. They’re both more useful than Transfiguration at least."
"Now that's something we can agree on," Mallory chuckled. "It's cool to turn things into animals, but in the grand scheme of things...it's not exactly something I can see myself needing very much in the future."
"Integram se profetiam…
I don’t often find that things are a waste of time until later.”
"Uh...what?"
"Well, use your knowledge now and use it for the future."
"For the last time, if you call me Wilhemina, I will end you. I don’t want to reminded of the bat shit crazy woman who raised me every time someone talks to me."
"Well excuse me, thought it was your name. What would you prefer I call you, then?"
"It’s not a question of the accuracy of the prediction for me, but of the person reading it. Potions recreate what we all ready have: luck, sleep, memory triggering. They’re nice, but useless really. There’s different forms other than reading tea leaves and crystal balls that are more acurate. Centaurs use stars which is a favourite of mine."
"Stars, huh? I like stars, I guess. I'm just not the type to be able to sit around and wait for unclear or unreliable results. Though, I suppose Potions is a little bit of sitting around as well. And if you mess up, results are pretty much ruined."
"What, you’re scared to see what you could be? Or are you incapable of achieving the goal? Potions always seemed a bore. Crush a bit, cut a bit, mix it in… all so dull."
"I'm not scared of something that isn't even one hundred percent reliable. And at least potions are useful in the future. Does Divination do anything besides tell you that things may or may not happen?"
"Maybe that future would have a higher chance of coming true if you believed in it more.
Sneaky you. I really ought to learn how to time manage like that.”
"Possibly, but I don't really think it works like that, though it would be nice if it did."
"It's not hard. Just find classes that are a waste of time, and utilize that time."
"History is dead. I favour teh future. Predicting what I’m to be in five years time or telling someone they’re going to die in a certain amount of time. I love to see the Grim. Well, pretend that I do at least though no one can tell if I’m being serious or not. That’s the secret."
"Divination, you mean? Ugh, that's my least favorite. I find it ridiculous. Potions is more my area of expertise."
"Perhaps learning to know the future is a little silly…but the stars are lovely. And the tea doesn’t hurt.
Unless you have Professor Armenta. Then it really does.”
"I stear clear of the tea regardless of who I have. But anyway, learning my future would be cool if it were at all believable. I spend most of the time in there studying for other classes."
