the fact that people are actually for-real using threads is insane. is this what weve come to as a society? i remember a time when google tried to make their own version of facebook and it was regarded as so lame it was almost immediately a punchline. now META of all cunts is making its own copy of TWITTER of all cesspools and people are voluntarily joining??? whats next?? are we all gonna use bing and the windows phone too?? you people make me sick id genuinely rather us all go to the jeremy renner app
we’ve started feeding this tortoiseshell-point siamese recently. she’s beautiful, aside from the fact she has disturbingly big, bulging blue eyes. we’ve started calling her… ‘goop’
it’s goop!
GUESS WHO HAD GOOPLETS! SIX ENTIRE BABIES! mama goop held onto her gooplings for an entire week longer than she had to, so the gooplitos came out very well done and fluffy!!
nearly five years ago… since then, mama goop has aged significantly, and as she nears the end of her life, she’s been given a cushy retirement alongside her beloved husband, papa pumpkin. for everyone who remembers this post, the goop troop sends their regards
coming of age film where a girl is really good at shoplifting and her dad finds out and is all like no daughter of mine is gonna be a shoplifter! and she goes but dad you don't understand I'm really good at it! maybe the best! this could be my calling! my purpose! and he goes absolutely not you're grounded young lady and at the climax she sneaks out and nabs like hundreds of dollars in fishing equipment and walks out of the store and all her friends are there cheering and lifting her up on their shoulders and the dad is there with his arms crossed and he looks mad as hell but then he sees what she got and realizes she did this to support his fishing hobby he's like well Christy I may not understand it but if it means this much to you... I guess it's alright with me and then the movie ends with them on the lake having a couple beers
accidentally clicked on r/frugal and this is the top post and i’m losing my mind

i switched from google to duck duck go recently & this is what i have discovered about it:
significantly WORSE at finding hyper-specific memes (often have to switch back to Google for this)
significantly BETTER at finding uhh media for free lmao
it really is sad that algorithmic feeds have broken peoples' brains so badly. people really do come here and go "wait, i have to CHOOSE who i follow to get posts on my dashboard???" because a social media site working the way they were always supposed to work is so alien now. people will assume the site is a ghost town because they don't follow enough active users. there has to be a constant stream of New Content every time you refresh, regardless of whether or not said Content is any good
you can never just get caught up on your feed and put the phone down, because that's not what tiktok and insta and twitter and facebook have conditioned users to expect. putting the phone down means you're not looking at more ads and generating revenue for the site. when you venture off of the following feed twitter's algorithm is very transparently designed to show you bait tweets and other things that will make you angry, because getting people to argue is one of the easiest ways to drive engagement. it's no wonder threads just launched with no following feed whatsoever, just an infinite stream of algorithmic slop. these sites don't want you to curate your own experience because then you might develop a healthier relationship with them. that's not what they want. they want addiction
I think the bicycle helmet discourse really just reinforces the idea that people believe that accidents only happen to the stupid and careless, and that people who get hurt somehow deserve it. And since nobody wants to believe themselves to be stupid, or thinks they could be careless or distracted, it's not necessary to take precautions.
And then they take safety advice as an insult because telling someone to be safe is seen as an accusation of being stupid and irresponsible, and not just a value neutral acknowledgement of statistical inevitably. We see it with masks, and seatbelts, and now bicycle helmets because everyone wants to believe they're too clever to get hurt, and too lucky to get hurt badly, until suddenly you're not and you have to resign, in shame, to being one of the people you previously saw as annoying nags, assuming you're even still alive.

genuinely what is up with adults in public blaring tiktoks and youtube shorts out loud full volume while theyre in line at the store. like just. lifting your phone speaker to your ear but still blasting as loud as you possibly can. are we fucked
digital piracy is the most important invention of the internet era im not exaggerating. people copying media and giving it to eachother has kept so much information and art around even before the internet was a thing, but the difficulty inherent in physical production & distribution of those copies limited access. torrenting shifts this process into pure data flow, making it easier to acquire things and also allowing pirates to distribute at a massive scale without the need for their own infrastructure. piracy allows the internet to function as a worldwide library that anyone can contribute to and always has a copy of whatever it is you want. anyone with a computer and an internet connection has access to an incredible wealth of media representing human knowledge and experiences from so many different people, places, and times right at their fingertips all because of piracy
