I’m fully aware that I reblog like the same three bloggers but the truth is I just don’t really have a huge circle of blogs I “trust” these days. (Kinda weird to say I trust those blogs since I obviously don’t know the people running them but I generally trust them not to spread misinformation and generally align with me politically).

A lot of other discourse blogs are routed in being ideologically pure more than actually dismantling structures of harm or meeting people where they are to educated them. I have a baby cousin who's Two Spirit.

Their parents are leftists, open minded, pro LGBTQ+, learned to use the right pronouns (to their face at least) all that jazz.

Their Auntie grew up in a remote area, little old fashioned, doesn't really "get" the non binary thing, and hasn't quite got the hang of the singular 'they' yet. But she tries.

When my cousin got injured and couldn't drive their parents shrugged and told them to quit their job.

Their Auntie drove them to and from work every day until they got their cast off.

TBH? Most white Europeans who are very loud about hating America/Americans hate America for the wrong reasons. Especially British people but most Western European countries have these types. A lot of posts in support of homeless folks have this weirdly woobified idea that everyone on the street is just a bit down on their luck at the moment but is actually a super great person who means you no harm. And that's a nice idea but it's not universally true by any means. I once had a homeless person follow me down the street while screaming that they wanted to strangle to me. I had a guy throw a softball-sized rock at me and my friends. I've had countless homeless people make sexual comments at me, including when I was underage.

But like here's the thing??? None of this is a reason to treat homeless people as vermin??? You try living their life and still being a kind and sweet and well-adjusted person. Being a dick doesn't mean you stop deserving human rights.

It's just weird to see this rosy leftist idea that homeless people are a form of noble savage. Like this idealized image of the woeful Hungry & Poor folks in a dickensian fairytale who kindly beg for your crumbs. It makes me feel like none of you would be able to actually support homeless people if you weren't able to paint them with such a sympathetic brush.

I do not agree with veganism as a moral standard. If it is your personal moral stance, that is fine. If you think humans eating meat is inherently immoral, I don’t want to deal with you, you’re hopeless. Vegan ideology behaves more like a sect of evangelical Christianity than a dietary choice.

It is not inherently better for the environment. That is the thing. When you begin trying to explain that local, sustainably sourced animal protein is better for the environment than imported plant proteins that are farmed 3,500 miles away using slave labor, they start tuning you out. Down is better for the environment than polyester stuffing, leather is better for the environment than pleather. We should work on making animal agricultural practices more sustainable instead of trying to shame everyone into eating plant products that are also farmed unethically and unsustainably.
