No brisk walk this morning due to the rain ☔️ and even more heavy rain 🌧 forecasted for this afternoon/evening. My only other option was to ease into the day with a cup of coffee in my favorite mug ☕️ of course, and a cookie. I don’t typically eat cookies for breakfast but, the overcast sky combined with the fact that it was still only Tuesday, was legit grounds for a pick me up. With a name like Apple Cider + Caramel Snickerdoodle, this cookie had me at hello. And does it deliver! Soft and flavorful, I could definitely taste the apple and the love that went into making this cookie, which gave me all kinds of Autumn 🍂 feels. My favorite part was the caramel center!  The perfect pairing!  Apples and caramel, mi gente, are soulmates. So delicious.  @flourandoats cookies do not disappoint! I haven’t met one yet that I didn’t like. Next one on my list to try? Espresso Chocolate Chip. I ask you, how bad can that possibly be??? Philadelphia is picturesque. Even more so when the sky is emblazoned with a glorious sunrise 🌄. Such was the case this past Friday morning. On these occasions, I tend to recall the poem below. Said poem is featured in a novel by S.E. Hinton entitled “The Outsiders.” I watched this movie countless times as a youth. It starred several of the teenage heartthrobs of the day (i.e., the late Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, ❤️❤️❤️ to name a few), but I digress. Perhaps the most poignant moment in the book/film is when Johnny utters his dying words to Ponyboy: “Stay gold, Ponyboy, stay gold.” In other words, maintain your childlike innocence and optimism in a cold, harsh world. Tragic but beautiful story. We are living in dark times. Let’s try to be the gold that is so lacking. Be Gold, Stay Gold. 28-22. Not exactly the outcome I was hoping for. Still, the deficit was less than that of a touchdown. Add to that the fact that we played the Defending Champions. All told, not a terrible showing. We can tussle with the best of them! Time to regroup and we’ll see the Raiders on 10/24! So bummed about Zach Ertz leaving the nest, really liked him. Wish him only the best on his new venture. The GOAT is in the house!!! Like him or not, Tom Brady IS amazing, I mean he’s got like what, 7 SB Rings!!! Kudos to him, that accomplishment is nothing short of spectacular. At 43, he still seems to be at the top of his game. Our Jalen Hurts is a whole 20 years his junior. Hopefully Jalen Hurts will blossom into one of the NFL’s finest, only time will tell. Tonight, however, Mr. Brady is in our house. Accolades aside, I would love to see the reigning SB Champs lose to the Eagles tonight for the entire nation to see. We’re coming for ya, Mr. Brady! I’m a Philly girl, born and bred. And while Philly is known for its cheesesteaks and soft pretzels, my favorite soft pretzel 🥨 is not from Philly. In fact, its not even from Pennsylvania. To get your hands on the very best soft pretzel ever (in my humble opinion), one has to take the 20-minute trek over the Betsy Ross Bridge to Cinnaminson, NJ. My son and I took said trek late yesterday morning. These pretzels are baked on the premises and are sold to you warm. Enjoying the pretzel while it’s still warm is pretzel nirvana. It’s like a hug 🤗 but from the inside. Truly satisfying, truly delicious 😋. And speaking of Philadelphia, PA…let’s go Eagles 🦅!!! We need a “W” today!!! That’s quite enough “L’s”. Tardy post but it works since I’ve attached throwback photos on this Throwback Thursday… So I understand yesterday was National Son’s Day. I’m so very proud of my own. They are no longer little, they no longer believe in Santa Claus, etc. That was all such fun, and I will forever cherish those memories. I think that what I have today, however, is so much better. You see now I they are not just my flesh and blood but my very best friends. Yes, at times, the tables are turned and it is I who turn to them for counsel and advice. Neat, huh? Needless to say, I love them immeasurably, and there is no one I’d rather share a cup of coffee ☕️ with than Nicholas and Daniel. Hmmm, perhaps not the best segue… Today is National Coffee Day! I would be remiss if I didn’t give a brief mention to the beverage that I begin every day with. I enjoy it iced in the summer, hot in the winter. And don’t get me started with coffee ice cream. Penelope and me with the wind in our hair yesterday. Not the easiest thing taking a selfie with one’s favorite puppy (who wouldn’t hold still) in a moving vehicle. She is truly is the Best. Puppy. Ever. I’m not at all biased. Went to my nephew’s soccer game. My angel, Quinn. He scored three goals, a hat trick! The boy possesses a natural wit, some of the things he says, lol, and he’s only 10! Unbeknownst to me, my brother and his family hosted a birthday luncheon for me yesterday. On the menu: Ricky’s Sliders, Avocado Chimichurri Bruschetta, etc. Ricky is our family’s grill meister. Grill and seasoning by @webergrills, they know a little something about grilling.😉 Ricky enjoys grilling, it is palpable. He adds a special ingredient. Hmmm, shall I give it away? You won’t find it in your pantry amongst your other seasonings, but you will most certainly taste it. Said seasoning? Wait for it……….love. I like to pile the Avocado Chimichurri Bruschetta (a delightful, savory concoction and one of my favorites) on top my burgers, takes them to another level. But one can totally eat this bruschetta right out of the bowl by the heaping spoonful. Utter deliciousness. How about the weather this weekend? Wall to wall sunshine, low humidity, it too was simply delicious! I know what you’re thinking, weather is delicious??? Not in a culinary sense per se, but sunshine does feed my soul. Hey little girl, today you turn 53!?!?!? How and when did that happen??? Frankly, I don’t know, it sounds cliché, but the time has flown. Oh, to be able to invert those numbers: 35, I’ll take it! Not possible though. There are no “do overs.” It is what it is. But, as you know, we have traveled along this journey, more often than not, with that same smile on our face, it’s just who we are. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Half glass full, positivity over negativity (we try!!!), hasn’t always been easy. Still, here we are. Thankful for God’s countless blessings in our life. Our two biggest blessings have names: Nicholas and Daniel. It was the two times in our life that we got to assist God in a miracle, AWESOME!!! So listen, don’t focus on those pesky wrinkles (keep buying the eye cream) or the few silver strands in your brunette mane – we are so going to rock our silver hair! As we embark on a new trip around the sun, focus on the fact that every single day is a gift. Keep stopping to smell the roses and marvel at the little things, that has always been our mantra.
