I just made this Tumblr in hope of sharing my journey going through college again, with a completely different course from the first time. There is a lot that I hope to do differently this year, and this blog (??) is one of them.

Sharing my studies, my triumphs, and my defeats in hope of, not only staying motivated for the next five years but also recording the changes I will go through.

I get very anxious interacting with people online, and I can't stop myself from overthinking everything - so that is definitely something I plan to improve through this. (and my super formal English that gives away that I'm not a native speaker)

So that's it, I just wanted to do something to mark the start of this blog.

Time to take this post entirely too seriously:

I often wonder if this is why you so commonly see the sentiment that we are in an era of uniquely bad literature, or at least that the fact that most books don't have artistic aspirations and are not aiming to be anything other than mindless entertainment is new. In fact what's new is the idea that everything is worth preserving (and also the internet making it easier to preserve it). The dumb artistically unambitious trash books of the past have survived only sporadically, because people thought of them as literally disposable.

When I was in college I had a professor who was an expert on detective fiction. He had a longstanding beef with the idea that "Murders in the Rue Morgue" was the first detective story. He thought that it seemed way too polished to be inventing a new genre, and also that the whole orangutan business had the vibe of someone subverting preexisting audience expectations and maybe engaging in a bit of stealth parody. With the help of some student volunteers, he went trawling through old magazines and newspapers and found hundreds of detective stories from the early 1800s that just hadn't garnered enough individual attention to be remembered. This was because most of them sucked balls. He created an online archive of them, so you too can read these mostly terrible stories.

motaz azaiza just posted a video of israeli officers indiscriminately shooting at civilians (and him) as they tried to run away. he and bisan and all other on-site journalists are living in a nightmare simulator just so they could be the ears and eyes of gaza—and yet we still have people who’re “considering whether this is any of their concern” “uninformed so they refuse to speak” “choosing to stay neutral.” motaz was one of the journalists who basically posted their eulogies earlier this week. this can’t get any more horrifying and dystopian. we need a ceasefire.

To this day people will cry over the knowledge and works destroyed when the library of Alexandria was burned down.

And yet no tears are shed as Palestinian archives and libraries are bombed.

Saint Porphyrius Church, built in 1150 and the 3rd oldest church in the world has been bombed.

It's not an accident.

Israel aren't simply killing Palestinians, they are trying to erase that there ever were Palestinians in the first place.

Destroying their livelihoods, trying to to destroy their culture and history and pretend this land was never there's.

It's easy to deny someone's existence when there's no record of them.

Which is why it's so important to look at the atrocities and bear witness to what's happening.

But to also recognise that Palestine is more than it's suffering.

There is a living breathing culture, of art, history, literacy which all come from the Palestinians.

Traditions they've carried for centuries.

So while we mourn the dead, we shall fight for the living. Fight for the preservation of their crafts, amplify their voices as they speak on their culture.

Palestinian history and culture is alive. And no matter how much the world wants to erase that, they cannot and will not.

do not let Palestine be erased through language. the colonisation of language is just as deadly.

Dr. Alnajjar is an Environmental Engineering consultant and instructor in Gaza. He and Dr. Yaser Junaid are writing an article about an under-publicized and extremely dangerous situation created by the Israeli assault on Gaza.

The cutting off of power by Israel has led to the complete collapse of waste and water treatment in the Gaza Strip. This is well-known to prevent desalination and decontamination, and is leading to chronic dehydration in the Gaza Strip. However, the cut-off has also shut down sewage processing and garbage disposal.

Basically, Israel’s targeted destruction of public infrastructure in Gaza has turned the north (probably soon the central and southern regions) into a massive incubator for extremely dangerous diseases. An immediate effort is needed to stop the spread of bacteria and disease, repair necessary infrastructure, and remove the contagions.

Please reblog or repost this information. Put this information into letters to your representatives. Stress that not only does this pose immediate danger to people in Gaza, these diseases can easily spread to Israel, the West Bank, Egypt, Jordan, and the French and Italian medical ships which have been promised to aid the wounded. The spread of disease in Gaza threatens a historic onset of lethal disease throughout the entire Mediterranean.

the fact that we only have “herculean task” and “sisyphean task” feels so limiting. so here’s a few more tasks for your repertoire

icarian task: when you have a task you know you’re going to fail at anyways, so why not have some fun with it before it all comes crashing down

cassandrean task: when you have to deal with people you KNOW won’t listen to you, despite having accurate information, and having to watch them fumble about when you told them the solution from the start (most often witnessed in customer service)
