I used to love the feeling of hunger and embrace it. But NO. Not any more. No more hours of being able to think about anything but food. Anything but how much my weight will be and checking in every mirror in front of me my thigh gap. I want to feel full and have the energy to study and do every little thing I love, without being constantly surrounded by these thoughts. I deserve this, all of us do.
The best gift you are ever going to give someone - the permission to feel safe in their own skin. To feel worthy. To feel like they are enough.
Hannah Brechner (via onlinecounsellingcollege)
Restrictors believe in control. Of themselves, their food intake, their environments. And whenever possible, they’d also like to control the entire world. Restrictors operate on the conviction that chaos is imminent and steps need to be taken now to minimize its impact impact. For a restrictor, deprivation is comforting because it provides a sense of control. If I limit my food intake, I limit my body size. If I limit my body size, I (believe I can) limit my suffering. If I limit my suffering, I can control my life. I make sure that bad things don’t happen. That chaos stays away.

Last night I put on some comfy clothes, went out to the kitchen and my boyfriend was like, “Yeahhhh, look at that butt.” But he wouldn’t drop it and was like, “No, really, you have to see your ass right now.” And he literally marched me into the bedroom and made me turn around and look at my butt in the mirror. Date someone who not only thinks you’re beautiful and perfect, but wants you to think that about yourself too.

Things I Wish I Knew
It is not my fault.
Nothing I did justifies or makes me deserve what has happened to me.
Talking to others about what I’ve been through and how I feel really helps.
The vicious voice in my head isn’t the voice of reason, it’s the voice of doubt.
Self-love and self-care isn’t selfish or narcissistic, it’s necessary.
Realizing I have a problem doesn’t mean I don’t have a problem. It’s called mindfulness and self-awareness.
I can’t “just calm down” or “just be happy” because that’s not how it works.
What I went through was real, and traumatizing, and preventable.
It is not my fault.
I am good enough.
The power to be happy and get better lies within me, and only me.
