My last post was about finally finishing this film. Here’s where it is now. It’s premiere date is set for February 9, 2018 in Arizona at the Worldwide Women’s Film Festival! Stoked beyond reason!
A Tasting Menu of Female Representation:
The Bechdel:
two or more women talking to each other about something other than a man
The Mako Mori:
at least one female character with her own narrative arc that is not about supporting a man’s story
The Sexy Lamp:
a female character that cannot be removed from the plot and replaced with a sexy lamp without destroying the story.
Chef’s Specials:
The Anti-Freeze:
no woman assaulted, injured or killed to further the story of another character.
The “Strength is Relative”:
complex women defined by solid characterization rather than a handful of underdeveloped masculine-coded stereotypes.
My actual freaking heart, you guys. Can’t believe this film is finally finished and the drive is being shipped back to me tomorrow. THAT’S A WRAP ON LUNATION.
Here are a few of my storyboards for my upcoming short, “Little Texas”. Casting for the film closed today and let me tell ya, deciding is going to be ROUGH.
FINALLY checked off my number one goal for this year: make a new short film.
Words fail me (partially due to the fact that we shot two 15 hour days, mostly due to my OVERWHELMING JOY!!)
Since I graduated college and left my college film friends who were ALWAYS down to shoot and make things happen it’s been extremely hard to finagle a film without spending every dollar I can get my hands on. All the pieces of this film fell into place though. $1,000 budget (Self-funded), SPECTACULAR local-isn talent, a killer cinematographer, a cam op/AC with some gear to lend, and a lovely lady who lent us her house for an entire weekend.
Very excited to share these sneak peeks and even more stoked to share the final project when it’s done.

Thankfully this doesn't include my velociraptor excitement screech. Really stoked to have found this little gem as well as a black sketchbook with Homer and Bart on the front.
My boyfriend captured exactly who I am in a single photo. Sunset, water, awkward flamingo-like stance. He also captured his own fingers because he's a total pro. ;P Shot on 35mm film at Lake Michigan.
Turned my handwriting into a font and immediately did this. The word has a Welsh origin and is absolutely beautiful. It encompasses exactly how I feel about this photo taken in Bandon, OR. A place I never called home, yet miss everyday.
Some days my desk is super creepy and crammed in a closet with five other adult humans. Today was one of those days.
My all time favorite video on simple story structure. I laugh so hard I cry every time I watch this.
Worked on a 48 hour film project this weekend. Not my own, but did coordinate/direct second unit. Into it.
Here's my list for the second half of the year. I think it's realistic. Checking off number one this weekend and working in number four every day. I've got three days in the can and I think I like it. Still not sure though. Anyone else have some mid-year resolutions?
Oh hello Michigan. Miss you already.
I belong in a Wes Anderson movie, y'all. Spent the weekend in Michigan with a pretty cool human-like creature. Lots of beach, wandering, and ice cream. Hoping to get more writing/sketching/painting in this week. Also prepping for the 48 hour film festival this weekend. Oh so very stoked!
Austin Kleon's mailing list is the only one I subscribe to. Always full of gems like this bit on not losing the magic. Working in film/television can definitely suck the spark out of you, even if it's what you're truly passionate about. Personally I hear that nagging voice telling me to sit the hell down and be serious ALL THE TIME. But I also know that it hinders my work flow and makes me wildly unhappy. So this piece resonates with me.
