Trying to Pay Fey with Money

Whimsical Fey: Why would I want those pictures of your past rulers? Why would you need six of this one? The only difference between them is this long number here. Is it some sort of true name for this paper?

Less Whimsical Fey: A contract with your rulers that promises a portion of their gold to whoever holds it and that your people place so much faith in that you value the promise more than the gold despite your rulers having made more of these promises than they have gold for? And the ownership of them can corrupt a human even if they never come into physical contact with these contracts? Sure, we accept those.

Just some character designs that I've been toying around with for my Xenos Café & Grill stuff. Three of them are characters that I've talked about before, though some details have changed. This stuff is still in the draft phase, and quite a bit of it was written without checking what I've previously posted.

We've got Nyxalia, now being called a "vantacat". I'm pretty much going to use the idea that her fur is vantablack to justify drawing her as a vaguely cat-shaped blob with eyes. No need to think aboutbody parts overlapping or texture, because she's an exaggerated void kitty/ I had honestly forgotten how many generations back her royal ancestor was while drawing this, and I think I'll probably stick to the original.

With Afa, I decided to go for a yellow color with some shiny metal that forms a sort of apron look on her. She probably got this paint job after accepting a job at Xenos. I imagine her relying on hover technology to move around. I feel that the idea of a painted-on smile while the detached antennae/ears and animated eyes indicate her actual emotion might be a good idea. I'm probably going to copy and paste her body if I make a webcomic out of this.

I've renamed Myxary to Flowble Triroux. I felt that Myx and Nyx are names that will get mixed up too often. I also gave her eyes that are also her brains, and went with three of them for the weirdness. I feel that I've got a pretty good handle on how her species works now.

I've also tried coming up with some sort of design for Lotorians, which are also involved in another setting of mine.

I've decided upon an easy-to-draw species to show up repeatedly as background characters, the Stex of the planet Figrx.

I've also come up with a problem "customer" that the employees of Xenos might have to deal with, the QaReN. I imagine them as a Karren haircut with a mouth, and a bit like a tribble from Star Trek, but able to talk and having been designed to benefit a race of space lawyers, the Suey. Nyxalia will try her best to hunt them without getting Xenos sued.

I intended to draw a horrific pig/shark hybrid for the Suey, but it turned out too cute. Hopefully, them sticking out a mosquito proboscis to drink blood is horrifying enough to make up for it.

Minta: I just saw something at the edge of the big rock.

Minta: I couldn't get a picture of it but I think it might be humanoid.

Cader: Please don't try these sorts of pranks on me. Also, that "rock" is officially known as "Boulder 01".

Minta: It's the only big rock around that isn't flying.

Minta: We don't really need a designation for it.

Minta: Also this isn't a prank.

Cader: So it's a hallucination then. Remember to see a psychologist when you're done with your analysis of EBS-01.

Minta: I've just spotted the first living thing to be on the other side of the barrier and you think it has to be either a prank or a hallucination.

Minta: We barely know anything about this world.

Minta: There could totally be native life and I discovered it.

Minta: That's a lot of typing you're doing.

Cader: We weren't even born yet when this ship landed here. You would think that if this place had native life, we would have seen it by now or noticed some preceding change that would justify that native life coming out of hiding. What we have had different since then is a person with a job closely monitoring something at the edge of the barrier. It's much more likely that the barrier, which we also barely know anything about, is giving off something that is affecting your mental state, and it's built up into something noticeable just now. I doubt that it will reach an irreversible state by the time you finish your analysis of EBS-01, but if you start feeling woozy, do try to put some distance between yourself and the barrier and get checked out immediately.

First, real life gave my main blog a bit of pause, but I'm back. I'll give my Experimentation Log storyline a satisfying stopping point over the next week.

Discovery by: Lecter, Minta (Exobiology Department)

Assigned Researcher: Pending confirmation

Classification (tentative): Humanoid Entity, partial slime conversion

Physical Description:

EBS-02 resembles a young, prepubescent human female. Estimated age is 6 Earth years.

Physiological markers and garment remnants match those of old dimension planet Neo Tokyo 3.

Observed deviances from human baseline include:

*Green hair. Unsure if result of dying or side effect of slime conversion.

*Orange cohesive slime has replaced portions of limbs, torso, and facial tissue.

*Slime regions form approximation of lost anatomy.

*Slime sections occasionally drip before quickly reforming. Reformation seems tied to EBS-02's awareness.

Possibility of internal conversion. Extent unknown. Apparent malnourishment.

Observed Behavior:

EBS-02 is nonverbal but responsive to vocal tone, gesture, and positioning. Cognitive assessment inconclusive; responses indicate comprehension but inconsistent executive function. Variability may result from:

*neurological conversion (brain tissue affected)

*trauma-induced regression

*incomplete developmental trajectory pre-conversion

*nonhuman neurobiology (see Origin Hypothesis “B”)

EBS-02 demonstrates a strong proximity preference to EBS-01 (magnolia tree) and a consistent approach preference toward discoverer (Lecter).

EBS-02 refuses to pass through the boundary, showing pained reactions and retreating from it.

Subject responds reliably to the spoken identifier “Magnolia.”

As it may have come to your attention, I have recently discovered an anomaly that has been designated as EBS-02. I am requesting that my duty of monitoring and caring for EBS-01 be expanded to cover the same of EBS-02.

EBS-02 has shown a fondness of EBS-01 and a desire to stay near it. EBS-02 has also exhibited a favoritism towards me over other researchers. I feel these factors will make it easier for me to monitor EBS-02.

Also, I have given her a name, Magnolia.

Audio Log 001 - External Biological Specimen Oversight

I've been assigned to External Biological Specimen 01, a magnolia tree. For archival purposes, I've been asked to append my first growth report with a recording of my baseline understanding of EBS-01.

When I was studying for a specialty in exobiology, this tree was a big deal. It was the first thing we've gotten to grow outside of the ship. The first thing we've gotten to grow in this planet's, no, this dimension's soil. It's also the only thing we've gotten to grow in this soil. That would be so exciting if we hadn't figured out why.

Our ship is surrounded by what we've been calling the slime bubble, an invisible boundary that liquefies anything that passes through it into some sort of orange slime. As a seed, EBS-01 managed to land in a patch of soil outside the ship but within the bubble, so it was able to survive. Other vegetative growth outside the ship has been hampered by the slime, which seems unable to support vegetable life.

I'm pretty much in charge of jotting down notes about EBS-01's growth and development. How much taller has it gotten? How many leaves have shown up? How is being at the edge of an invisible bubble that turns whatever passes through it into slime affecting it?

It would be nice if it grew in a spot with something interesting in the background like that giant purple whirlwind, the flying rocks and water balls, or one of the other EDS units. It'd be nice to be doing this with the hope that I might be the first one to notice a communication attempt from one of those EDS units. Instead, the view of what lies beyond the specimen I'm stuck with is a boring, unmoving, rock that sits on the ground. It's big, sure, but utterly uninteresting.

I'm not even allowed to physically interact with EBS-01 and have to fertilize and water it through some slots installed in the glass wall between me and it. I understand that the wall is there to make sure none of my fingers get lost from going through the slime bubble, but it'd be nice to be able to get a leaf or blossom sample from it, or just... touch the thing.

I've been wondering how well Dispatch's well... dispatch sections... could work as a more roguelike game that trades story and some character interaction for procedurally generated missions and the ability to assemble a team from a larger pool of heroes, possibly even some modded ones.

If nothing else, it'd provide an excuse for background characters of SDN like Mr. Whiskey to get a turn being sent on missions.

Woe🧚 The poll has given us another tie, so I've got to use one of your human decision disks to deal with this. I'm also going to be trying out a new technique with it this time. I've gone and got myself a ramp that I can roll it down like this... It's made it to the bottom... Crashed into a wall... And it's toppled over to reveal... TAILS! We're going with the Chloe🦚 choice.

🧚 And so, Hugh approached Chloe, a drink in each hand.

Hugh👨 *Offering drink* Do you think you'll be alright?

Chloe🦚 *Stops preening wing feathers to grab drink with foot* Yeah. This isn't the first time I've had a fashion victim get violent with me.

Hugh👨 I... I should have been out there helping restrain her. Instead, I was hiding behind the counter pressing the silent alarm button.

Chloe🦚 You were doing what you could handle, and that's enough.

Hugh👨 I HAVE PRACTICED WITH THIS RAPIER FOR 5 YEARS, AND WHEN I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROTECT SOMEONE, I HID!

Chloe🦚 Shhh... *Wraps wing around Hugh* My safety is not your responsibility.

Hugh👨 But...

Chloe🦚 You are not part of the subjugation squad. Your responsibilities today were to serve coffees and teas. Anything you can do with that sword is just a bonus.

Hugh👨 I'm sure that I could have...

Chloe🦚 *Interrupts Hugh with a kiss to the forehead* Just let the pretty bird do the talking for a bit.

Hugh👨 *Blushing* O... OK...

Chloe🦚 You are not responsible for any trouble that these beautiful feathers get into. These feathers are a challenge to others to either rise to my beauty or drag me down to their ugliness, and dragging me down is what that arachne tried to do. Their care is my responsibility.

Chloe🦚 But if you really want to take some responsibility for their health, perhaps we can discuss that over dinner. Say, tomorrow at 8?

🧚 Chloe took a final sip of the drink held in his foot... I mean...

Woe🧚 OK, so I thought I would be able to last longer without spoiling things through gendered pronouns. I guess we'll just move onto the poll.

Woe🧚 This will end the weekly updates for now, but the author intends to continue this, but at a more relaxed pace as he figures out how to plot out things past the route split. Some exploration of other directions the story could have gone will happen (I've even been told that there's a route for me as well), but the polls will decide what the main focus will be. Also, I'm not going to use the decision disk for this one. That thing was tough enough to get to the top of the ramp. If it's a tie, I'm just locking it into Chloe🦚's route.

Warclema Cast - Annul

Annul is the main protagonist of the Demon War plotline I have in mind. He's also an isekai character that I originally came up with because it seemed like an easy way to introduce a fantasy world with basic things being different. I also kind of thought him up as a blank slate protagonist whose dialog would start out simple, but get more nuanced as the plot went on and the player made more dialog choices that would influence later choices.

As a default, I imagine him going through an enemy-sparing route, encouraging rehabilitation of the Demon Army. Just a sort of "You have some 'might makes right' philosophy? That means that you should obey me, who had beaten you, right? Your first order is to serve the people you victimized.".

His arrival in Warclema was not part of some prophecy, the power of a divine figure, or some desperate attempt to receive aid from another world. Instead, it was an experiment, one that would provide valuable data that would advance Warclema's technological progression, but also alert those monitoring interdimensional activity to Warclema's presence, ultimately resulting in the Demon War. As a result, he is able to find a place within Warclema to consider his own before the plot kicks off, allowing the story to have more of a "destroyed hometown" start with some "found family" flavor to it and having the isekai origin turn up later.

I have long imagined the experiment that brought him over being performed by neutromorphs at the request of the Spoilers, who needed a bit of discretion because of agreements made after the Spoiler War. Annul would have decided to live with them and sometimes looting a nearby abandoned EDS for foreign matter that would convert into neutroslime. He would be especially watched by the Spoilers, who have less ability to predict his actions with him having spent a significant chunk of his life in a world that they are still trying to obtain details about.

Warclema Lore Poll for December 29-January 2

Despite that, I think I'll have the new addition to the poll choices be to stop being lazy and get back to work on that one Warclema videogame that I had been putting off, Heartless Parasite.

Warclema Bestiary - Reindeer

Reindeer are yet another creature that uses Warclema's elemental magic system for flight, specifically releasing white anti-gravity magic through their belly fur and using black gravity magic through hooves for stability and orientation.

They seem remarkably skilled at shooting black gravity magic beams through their noses to ground predators, but there is the occasional mutant that has a red nose for shooting red fire magic beams instead.

Warclema Cast - Magnolia of 29

The third protagonist of Warclema's Exploration Era storyline. Unlike Warren and Clementine, her body still contained a noticeable amount of matter from the human home dimension, which converted into neutroslime when she left the emulated physics around EDS 29 and was exposed to Warclema's native physics. This occurred while she was a child and it had removed chunks of her body, including a limb or two, but she's been able to transform neutroslime into replacements. She might have also ended up with some brain matter converting into neutroslime, resulting in some unspecified neurodivergence.

Instead of staying put or returning to the safety of EDS 29, she wandered off and eventually reached EDS Svalbard, an ark EDS that was filled with scientists meant to handle terraforming the dimension humanity ended up in. They took great interest in the injured girl that had managed to survive away from an EDS, and quickly went about trying their best to figure out whatever they could from her. The desperate attempts to get some food to this child they couldn't safely reach is actually how they came to the conclusion that matter native to this dimension would not suffer the same conversion into slime. They pretty much adopted the child, and named her "Magnolia" after a tree that had managed to find a spot to grow outside of the EDS but within the emulated physics surrounding it.

In addition to learning how to manipulate neutroslime, she would also manage to figure out some of Warclema's elemental magic system, ligic. Overall, she would fill a sort of mage role. However, she would show reluctance to enter an EDS due to the emulated physics around them making her neutroslime go inert.

Overall, a weird youth with magical abilities and green hair, though the hair color is due to a mutation that spread through EDS 29 and allowed them to survive despite the malfunctioning food replicators putting dangerous levels of copper into replicated items.

It's Not Gay If It's With Monsters - Part 2.2 Mistakes Were Made (Continued)

🧚 Hugh's heartrate rose as he saw who was coming to grab the order. At the table with the big and scary arachne lady, there was a second arachne, much smaller. Hugh hadn't noticed him earlier. He wanted to hide, but his body refused to move as the second-biggest spider he had seen today approached him. The spider lower half was fluffy and colorful, and about the size of a large dog, like a labrador. His human upper half was halfling or child-sized and was wearing a green shirt with the text "NON-EDIBLE" printed on it.

🧚 Midway to the counter, he stopped, raised two of his middle spider legs into the air, and started moving side to side. His face, which appeared very human-like if you ignored the extra eyes to the side, showed an anxious expression as if not sure what to do, but still he approached slowly. He reached for the drink carrier with those raised spider legs. Hugh was able to spot a blush as the spider person grabbed the drinks and hurried off.

Foby?🕷️ *Scurrying off* Thank you!

Hugh👨 OK, so there's two of them... Whatever... I got another order to fill. A marrow cocoa for Grikka'mu. Just gotta take some hot chocolate, add some orange zest... some pig's blood... and a cut bone for garnish. GRIKKA'MU!

🧚 A gnoll woman approached the counter. Some would describe her as looking like a hybrid between a neanderthal and a hyena that had been hitting the gym. She had a sleeveless blouse that left her powerful biceps and her... pectorals... competing for attention. She had a leather skirt to cover her thighs, and some sort of animal skull hanging from the front in a way that would lead to Hugh looking up the difference between a skirt and a kilt once he had some free time.

Grikka'mu🐺 Is Grikka'mu's cocoa ready?

Hugh👨 *Getting distracted* Yeah... right here.

Grikka'mu🐺 Grikka'mu love this chocolate stuff humans make! *Notices Hugh's attention is elsewhere* What's wrong? *Follows Hugh's gaze*

🧚 What both were now looking at is Kiby shooing the arachne lady back to her table. There was some yelling with the occasional slur.

Grikka'mu🐺 Little man scared of spider lady?

Hugh👨 *Nods*

Grikka'mu🐺 Don't worry. If spider lady start fight, Grikka'mu keep you safe. *Pats Hugh's head before taking her marrow cocoa*

Hugh👨 I just want this day to be over...

Foby?🕷️ Me too...

Hugh👨 AHH!

Foby?🕷️ AH!

Hugh👨 *Ducking behind the counter* I don't have a drink order ready for you right now.

Foby?🕷️ *Ducking down on his own side of the counter* I thought it'd be safer to wait for my newest order over here. Is that alright?

Hugh👨 *Realizing that because the arachne boy is shorter, the counter does a decent job of obscuring the view of his lower spider half* I guess so. Oh, here's the ticket for your order and it's... That is a lot of coffee. *Gets to work on preparing it*

Foby?🕷️ I think it might be able to distract her while I sneak out.

Hugh👨 Isn't she your mother or something?

Foby?🕷️ No... no... She's my... I think the human word for it is "date".

Hugh👨 Uhmmm...

Foby?🕷️ You think that all arachne grow up to be around her size, don't you?

Hugh👨 Well...

Foby?🕷️ It's just the women that get that big. The men grow up to be *gestures to self* this size.

Hugh👨 So the date isn't going as well as you hoped?

Foby?🕷️ I've had worse.

Hugh👨 Well, hopefully this will help you out, er... *checks order ticket* Foby?

Fobian🕷️ F... Foby... an... Fobian. And could you step back a bit? I don't mean to be offensive, but you humans have that whole big and scary look to you.

Hugh👨 *Surprised* Oh, uh... sure. *steps back*

Fobian🕷️ *Grabs tray of coffees* Thank-

Arachne Lady🕷️ What did you say, you impudent bird?!

Chloe🦚 I said the only thing more offensive than that top is your decision to wear it.

🧚 Things were spiraling out of control with the arachne lady, and it wasn't that long before...

Hugh👨 *Holding up hand to block view of Fobian's lower spider half* I've sent out the alert for the subjugation squad. I'm sure they'll get here before any deaths happen. Afterall, it's... at least 3 competent fighters against her.

🧚 A loud crash precedes a shower of coffee beans and glass scattering across the floor.

Hugh👨 *Other hand gripping the rapier he has with him* Just a little collateral damage. They can do fine without me. They just have to last until the subjugation squad arrives. Kiby would understand. He knows that I can't handle spiders...

Fobian🕷️ I haven't heard the dwarf's voice in awhile.

Hugh👨 Ki... Kiby? I... I'm sure he's still alive... I...

🚨 *Sirens* This is the subjugation squad! Drop to the ground or we will begin to fire!

🧚 The subjugation squad proceeded to end the conflict through tranquilizers, gas, and a bit of tazing. There were no casualties, and minimal injuries. After the fighting had stopped, they were able to get people's stories and review security footage.

Kiby🧔🏽‍ I get it. You just have that one little hangup when it comes to spiders.

We plan to put a temporary ban on serving caffeinated beverages to arachne as a stopgap while we figure this out.

Woe🧚 Hello! Sorry to interrupt any holiday preparations you may be distracting yourself from with your tumblr scrolling. I'm just giving this post a little boost during the final hours of the poll at the end of it. There are less than 8 hours left of it, so feel free to go into the reblogged post and skip to the poll at the end. The only context you need is that it's a choice between a cute arachne/spider boy🕷️, a French slime girl fencer💧, a harpy🦚 that has been assigned a peacock emoji for a good reason, and a buff gnoll girl🐺. If you want more context, then keep reading.

Woe🧚 For those just stumbling upon this, I'm Woe, the fairy. This is a monster girl/boy romance story with some queer themes that started out as an idea for a visual novel, but is now being made in a sort of script fic format with polls to determine the direction of the next part and also the use of emojis to indicate who's talking. It's been posted in weekly installments for the month as a little test of how well the author can handle the load and to get an idea of audience interest. Woe🧚 This one has the poll that decides which character gets the ending scene for this month-long experiment, Fobian🕷️ the arachne boy, Foille💧 the slime girl, Chloe🦚 the harpy, or Grikka'mu🐺 the gnoll girl.

Woe🧚 Just a little spoiler for you all, the next part will have a "Do you want to go down this story route? Yes/No" poll at the end. Just an extended scene with the character to give you an idea of what to expect of the story route and a poll to decide whether to commit to it or move onto the next character. Don't be afraid of ruining the story with an uninformed vote.

Woe🧚 The author has plans to continue things beyond this month-long experiment, whether it's continuing the route the votes pick, showing what would have happened in other routes, or going back and making extended versions of previous parts now that they aren't on a time limit. It will not be a weekly thing though. Maybe bi-weekly or monthly? We'll need some time to figure this out.

Warclema Cast - Clementine Theravelle

Clementine is the second protagonist of Warclema's Exploration Era. She is from EDS Pride, one of the various luxury class interdimensional ships that were built to higher standards and used to help those of power, resources, and connections escape the destruction of their universe. The people aboard came to find that this alternate dimension would destroy anything that ventured too far from where their ship entered at and that they couldn't go back.

Further trouble came a generation or two later when some strange beings started showing up outside the EDS and would sometimes try making their way inside. These creatures seemed like partial humans with parts of them made up of the goop that people would turn into if they ventured out too far. The people of EDS Pride had setup automated defenses that would eliminate these creatures if they got too close. Unfotunately, they had set too wide of a definition for what to target, and ended up with automated defenses that would try to eliminate both these strange creatures and the humans present.

Clementine would be one of the survivors that was hiding in the EDS, trying to survive and fight against the robots that had taken over the EDS. She has learned a bit about how to treat injuries and how to hack robots and computers, but isn't near as effective at combat as Warren is. Overall meant to fill a healer or perhaps cleric role, being able to fix up both people and machines to some extent.
