hi, i'm joke. you might already know me from my art blog, @/acidjazzedevening. this is my blog for posting about my personal petscop interpretation, which i call jokescop. i'll also be posting about tony domenico's other works from time to time, such as tapers and good sky.

i've made it glaringly obvious here, but i really really really like marvin. he's a deeply interesting character to me and i like playing with him in my mind palace. mind you, this does not mean i don't think he did anything wrong, in fact his abusive actions (both explicit and implied) are part of why i feel he's so interesting. i summed up my thoughts on him pretty well in this post on my art blog, give it a read if you'd like.

my other favorite characters are rainer, paul/care, and lina. i'm specifically really fixated on the timeline from the 70s to the 90s as i think the plot elements from that general time period are the most fun to explore, so if i don't post much about the events of petscop in 2017 that is why. i like to place emphasis on the themes of the cycle of abuse in petscop since stories about abuse are very intriguing to me. i also like to play around with anomalous happenings in my interpretation, seeing as impossible events are a common theme in tony domenico's works and i feel like those themes are heavily underexplored by the fandom at large. petscop is a lot more mundane than people think but i don't think its story is entirely tethered to reality either!

i block people who insist that there is no possible alternate interpretation for what is going on with paul, by the way. paul can be trans. paul can be plural. paul can be separate from care and they can be siblings. they can be alternate versions of each other in alternate realities. multiple of these things can be true and they don't have to be mutually exclusive. there is no canonical explanation for paul and tony domenico has never given one and never Will give one. let people interpret works of art how they want, especially when that is what petscop invites the viewer to do. they're not wrong for doing so, you're actually wrong for telling other people how to play toys

in jokescop, a character's color will change once they go past nlm status and are "reborn"

care -> paul are yellow -> red, obviously, but there are a couple others, too.

daniel -> rainer is red -> white/blue. red is tied heavily to toneth, who i associate with daniel. rainer, meanwhile, tries to make themself anonymous, colorless, but i feel like at their core they are still blue in a way, in that blue to me represents stagnance out of a willingness to stay in the past rather than stagnance because you are stuck in the past (the latter is represent by the color orange in my mind). rainer is more aware of their overall situation than someone like marvin is but they still refuse to change their own circumstances, just the circumstances of others. they can take out their rage on their family while continuing to drown in their misery, they recognize that they've done horrible things in the past but would rather succumb to their own self-loathing than like, do anything to confront that

marvin's child self -> his adult self is orange -> green. he loved the color orange as a child, and so in his adulthood he continues to cling to that color, even if as an adult he's associated with green. the color green is meant to be representative of the fact that he has changed, but still remains mentally frozen in his past. it's like some sort of sickly grime that coats him and gets all over everything, everything that he loves, tainting them as well. and he doesn't even know it's there, all he knows is that he feels awful and filthy inside and that he keeps making people unlovable out of his own need to be loved

there's also something there with tiara/belle both being purple, but tiara specifically also being pink. rainer making both of their text colors the same, hoping to kind of sweep what they did to her under the rug, but belle remembering what they did to them, how they tried to force a different color onto her and failed. belle requesting to be called tiara as well...like she doesn't think she's worth anything if she's not trying to be an idolized version of her child self, like she's nothing but a quitter otherwise. veiling herself in pink even though she doesn't really relate to the color. idk

there are probably more examples, but i'm kind of tired and can't think of anything else to say. thanks for reading my post. bleghhhhh
