82 YEARS AGO - BATMAN DEBUTED FOR THE FIRST TIME
Eighty-two years ago on March 30, 1939, Detective Comics #27 hit newsstands, introducing the Caped Crusader for the very first time in a featured story called “The Case of the Chemical Syndicate.”
“And for all that fierce exterior, I’ve never met anyone who cared as deeply about his fellow man as Bruce Wayne.”
- Amanda Waller, Justice League Unlimited, Season 2 Episode 13 (2005)
Masculinity is not about being cold and heartless, or not feeling. Masculine expression of emotion, empathy, and sympathy is not usually overtly displayed like femine expressions of emotions, but expressed in their actions towards others. As the motivation for such action.
Batman shows that you can be a deeply feeling and compassionate person without wearing your emotions on your sleeve. And that is the true quality of a strong masculine character.
If you are unfamiliar with this, it’s basically where someone pretends to be bad at a simple task just so they can get out of it. Or they may do the task but ask a lot of questions and insist they need help doing it. Men are usually accused of being this way in regards to household chores or when raising their children.
Now I believe the concept is real. There are people like that in the world. But before you go around believing your man is exhibiting this, I want to offer a different perspective by asking these questions:
Did he make a mistake?
Does he just not know how to do X thing?
You may insist that you know the difference between these things, but I have to ask that because oftentimes terms get thrown around even when they’re not applicable. How many people get called a boomer for having reasonable criticism of society? How many people get called a karen? How many guys get called a simp for no reason? It’s not farfetched to say this also is likely getting thrown around incorrectly.
Do you have a preferred way of doing things and is that preferred way the only way you want it to be done?
Not too long ago, I brought up the towel example that was in a Dadvocate video. You have your way of folding towels, your significant other (in this case, your man) has his own way of doing it. Neither are wrong, but you may feel irritated because he’s not doing it your way. You may feel like he’s doing it on purpose or if you mention it to someone else, they may point it out. It does happen and it needs to be considered
Are you micromanaging him?
I found this article that lists 6 signs of a micromanager and I want to show you 3 of them. This is more so geared towards a micromanaging boss but I feel like it works well for this discussion as well.
You are scared to make decisions on your own
They re-do your work
They use a “my way or the highway” approach.
Maybe he’s not necessarily scared of making decisions on his own (or he could be), but he doesn’t want to be treated or lectured like he’s an idiot. So he may ask you a ton of questions to keep you involved, he may seem like he’s acting clueless but in reality, he doesn’t want to be needlessly criticized. No one wants that. They want to be treated like an equal partner.
Maybe it’s dad’s turn to get the kids ready for school. Maybe you like to ensure that the kids are dressed before they eat breakfast and you like to have their lunches prepped the night before. But he doesn’t do it like that; he let’s them get dressed after they eat in case they spill something on them and he fixes their lunches that morning. You feel like the whole morning is off and you might make him feel like crap you feel like nothing is getting done. You may even take charge and make the kids go get dressed before they eat. And then if you get angry and start in on him, it’s going to show him that you don’t see him as an equal partner.
But the internet isn’t necessarily going to point these things out. Tiktok is going to tell you that he’s doing this to spite you, that he’s doing his because he’s a manchild or he wants you to mother him. That article online is going to tell you he’s just trying to take advantage of you.
Sometimes we have to look within. It’s easy to point fingers than it is to reflect on our own behavior
I have definitely encountered this, weaponized ignorance. An interesting thing is that it tends to occur more in women than in men, but, as with so many things, it's only when men do it that it is ever considered a problem.
We are all very familiar with the bimbo archetype. The general idea behind that presentation is that, if a woman exudes enough sex appeal and acts like a dumb tart, men will fall over themselves to do things for her. We see it plenty of times as a trope in media, where a villainess will pretend to be helpless or in distress so the "white knight" will handle something for her as well. These concepts do not come from nowhere, they are grounded in reality, given minor exaggeration. And, we have recently seen an increase of this on the male side of the coin. The rise of the himho, handsome and chiseled but generally incompetent. Well, the only difference in depiction from average men is that he is hypersexualized to appeal to the female gaze.
But, what bled over first was the idea of the average Joe who struggles to keep his family happy while bumbling his way through life. It's a subversion of traditional masculinity, where men were typically described as mostly competent and encouraged to be so. Now, we see that a man can be percieved as incompetent and still endure in the end as culture works to make males more feminine and females more masculine. The roles are beginning to reverse instead of even out, because they can not ever be balanced.
Still, I am glad that Sometimes-men-need-help-too mentioned the instances of abuse via micromanagement. I have also seen this too many times on both sides. Wesponized incompetence can easily be mistaken for learned incompetence. And, a person who is unfamiliar with the effects of their behaviors on others can easily cause the latter while attacking the victim for the former. In these instances, I certainly think it is men who are pushed into this more often. While both tend to take for granted their mastery in managing their relms of expertise, I think women tend to be more accommodating with it. If a man gives a woman a task and she fails at it, he tends to scold, correct, push her to do it right. When a woman gives a man a task and he fails, she roles her eyes and just does it herself, because he is too dumb and she should never have let him do it in the first place. It's generally the same approach I have seen in child rearing. Very often, I see men give their child a task and watch them fail until they get it right and women give a child a task and practically do the task for them before they have a chance to fail. Both approaches come from the position of seeing the child as not competent enough to succeed the first time, but one is less content with accepting that idea.
I beleive it's this early experience that sets the stage for weaponizing incompetence. When a person learns early that they get to take the easy path by acting like they can't do something, they will rely on that to fail to the top. I have seen and struggled with this with my own child as so many people that he spends time with doubt his ability to do for himself.
As a prime example. He has been dressing himself since he could grab and pull clothing (around 1 ½). But, after staying with his grandmother for a weekend, he suddenly didn't know how to put his shirt on. Upon inquiry, and interrogation, it was revealed that she regularly helped him change clothes if he seemed like he was struggling, or simply put the clothes on him herself, and now that he was home he was acting as if he needed help so we would do it for him. Even after being told he could dress himself, she assumed that he (at 2 ½ now) could not because toddlers can't do things like that. She also didn't realize he was potty trained because " kids are not ready for that until 4 or 5". Low expectations breed learned incompetence. And once incompetence is learned it can become weaponized and used to one's advantage.
My child is rather advanced in his independence because I never treated him as if he was incapable of doing something. He can do anything he is taught to do, with reasonable developmental limitations. But, development is all about growth and experience. A person who is not experienced will not grow, and a person who does not grow will be incompetent. Your incompetence is not an excuse for failure. If you can succeed, you will succeeed. If you expect failure, you will receive failure, and that is what you will deserve.
How I expect my daughter to act if I have one. Instead of babying and coddling her, reinforcing that the world is scary and something she needs to be sheltered from, I'm going to teach her to be courageous and see the beauty in even the ugly things.
Masculinity and femininity are imbued in men and women. Neither one is bad but can have negative and positive traits. For a woman being her masculine can help her have drive and motivation. It can strive her to do better things and work hard especially for her family. But then she gets married and if she's traditional that masculine role eventually shifts over to her husband. But there are things that happen and make women hold on to that masculine role.
Giving birth and instead of helping, your husband decides to play video games. You're struggling with the kids and instead of helping your husband continues sleep on. You need groceries but your husband needs a list and not a normal list, a list of where every single item is in the store. You need to go on a trip but you can't even leave outside of the house for a single day without everything falling apart because her husband doesn't even know your child's routine.
Incompetence. Neglectfulness. Then the expectation to be a sex machine after the day is done. Situations like these are what causes a woman to stay in her masculine and not let her husband take the lead. Why? Because he is shown that he can't lead, everything would fall apart if she wasn't there and that is terrifying
I can agree with some of the points you brought up, but most of your points appear to just be gripes about what some husbands do and a confusion about what is and isn't masculine.
Yes, males and females both have masculine and feminine characteristics. However, it could be better described as males and females having neutral traits that are more masculine in males and more feminine in females.
Drive, motivation, a desire to improve; those are all neutral traits shared between men and women. The things each is driven towards, what motivates them, and what they desire to improve in themselves an hownthey go about achieving these things is based on how masculine or feminine they are.
A woman who has a masculine approach towards how to do something doesn't suddenly lose that approach just because she gets married. A hard working woman will remain a hard working woman, even if she takes a traditional role in her marriage. Instead of being hard working for her employer, she should be hard working for her husband. Getting married doesn't mean she can suddenly become a slacker.
When it comes to the examples about husbands who cause their wives to hold on to their "masculinity", the behaviors are certainly objectionable, but they have nothing to do with masculinity. These all seem like undesirable behaviors which would have been present before marriage, or at least would have been expected yet somehow overlooked.
A husband choosing video games over helping during child birth is likely to have ignored important relationship milestones and responsibilities before. If the husband has traded off being the primary bread winner, then the traditional expectation is that the wife/trad wife would be the sole child rearer. If the wofe os the person who regularly does the grocery shopping, it would actually make sense that the husband would be unfamiliar with the layout obthe grocery store, even if he used to do his own grocery shopping. If you don't frequent an area, you tend to forget it's layout, especially for grocers who tend to alter their floor plan every few years. And, again, if you are taking up traditional role of wife as the house domina, and your husband is at work most of the time, how is he supposed to be familiarized with the daily routines of the children? From personal experience as the one who spends the most time taking care of our child, my wife doesn't know jack about the routines here, even if I tell her all the time. That's just how it is and you can't be upset at someone who's focus is taking care of routines in a different situation.
Ignoring the part about the sex machine because that's a whole bag of worms, your examples were a mix of "this is what you chose, don't complain now", and selfish entitlements, maybe even regret for what you signed up for. My guess is that you expect the trad wife oife to be easy but have a modern interpretation of what traditional wifery was instead of a realistic and historical understanding of just how muh work and responsibility the wife was given. It's not slavery or being taken csre of like a pet. It's a serious partnership. Even in a modtrad relationship, where the roles are reversed, it's the same: one person works hard putside the home, and the other person works hard inside the home. Each person has their realm of dominance and responsibility. That is not something that you get to just take a break from. It's not like the trad wife goes to her husband's place of employment and handles his routines so he can go on a trip. Why expect it to be the other way around?
A good leader is one who has firmly established their expectations of their followers, and can trust them to carry out those responsibilities independently. It seems like what you want is an overseer to micromanage everything and take over when you get tired. That is not how traditional marriages worked.
Very sweet. My son has already had a arranged marriage proposal from other parents. A bit worried about the older women who constantly "joke" about kidnapping taking himto live with them because he's so adorable and polite, though.
When people are like ohhh boohoo why are there no MEN’s shelters :( I love how none of them think about why there are specifically women’s shelters. Because trust me women get nothing if it isn’t for good reason. Also women set them up ourselves and yet y’all expect women to ALSO set them up for men and take care of them like little babies? If men want mens shelters they should make them their damn selves. All they have are feeble excuses like ‘but what if we get cancelled for not including women :(‘ like a. You probably won’t and b. I promise women faced much harder obstacles when they set up women’s shelters lmao
The first women's shelter was opened by Ms. Erin Pizzey.
She and her small group of activists gathered funds (mostly from men btw, not just women) and built a shelter for women. She was praised for this, especially from feminist groups.
Erin Pizzey returns to The Respondent to discuss the Johnny Depp v Amber Heard verdict, the groundswell of support for those falsely accused
After a short amount of time, she noticed many of the women there speaking of how they would abuse their husbands and sons. How many of the DV victims came in for reciprocrated domestic violence. She did further research and found that men were abused at around tge same rates as women.
Pizzey decided to open a men's shelter as well. This didnt go nearly as smoothly as it did for the women's shelter. Those who gave for women refused to give for men. It took much more work. But she eventually got the funds and support to open a men's abuse shelter.
Feminists were outraged.
The believed that "under patriarchy", women couldnt be abusers and men couldnt be victims. Ever. They considered tge men's shelter a threat to women, as this meant that women had to share beds, supplies, and support. Feminists believed this to be misogynistic!
So they protested Pizzey's men's shelter, vandalized it, harrassed Pizzey (even at her home), sent death threats, likely shot her dog (not proven, but the dog was shot amidst a slew of death threats and vandalism), to the point that Pizzey needed to be escorted by police to get around. She eventually got run out and fled the country. Her male abuse shelter closed and changed to a women's shelter to which Pizzey is forever banned. Pizzey is now hated in the feminist community as a raging miaogynist who apparently doesnt care about female victims of DV.
Those radfems who closed her shelter showed the government that supporting male victims was not only unpopular, but dangerous. Not too long after, entire governments would fund abuse shelters...but only for women. But it didnt stop there. Feminist DV organizations would be made, that made their programs reflect feminist ideology, namely that "under patriarchy, men couldnt be victims".
To this day, prominent feminists and their organizations outright gender abuse, discouraging anyone to view it as anything other than a male on female issue.
Unfortunately, this had a negative effect on society, and gendered the crime in the eyes of citizens, to the point that male victoms of DV were essentially invisible if they were attacked by a woman.
Although unpopular, various social experiements show that male on female violence is taken seriously, while female on male violence is treated as a joke.
Even well documented public displays of domestic violence is gendered. A woman being abused is almost always taken seriously, and the man is punished heavily. Female attackers however tend to get a pass, or even have it shows as comical. Beyonce's sister attacking Jay Z in an elevator, Tiger Wood's wife hospitalizing him for cheating, talk shows laughing at men getting their penises cut off by their wives, etc.
Men in turn become signifigantly less likely to come forward for help, and are less likely to have people seek help in their stead. Men who did come forward faced the issue of being more likely to be arrested than their female attacker.
In the end, men arent lacking shelters and support because they arent trying. It isnt because of laziness or not knowing how. It's because of the empathy gap and the damage from feminists. No one cares about men. In fact, it's dangerous to do so. Just ask Cassie Jaye, a former feminist who explored the MRM and men's issues (originally in bad faith) and became an enemy of feminists for trying to bring men's issues to light.
Politicians, activists, and celebrities rely on popularity to thrive. And feminists have, for decades, ensured that recognizing men's issues and supporting men was not only unpopular, but dangerous for ones social standing.
Every government that funds abuse shelters with taxpayer money, ONLY gives funding to women's shelters. Funds from the public also show severe disparity, as the gendering of abuse has gendered people's empathy. This makes opening women's shelters MUCH easier than opening a men's shelter. And, of course, men's shelters face scrutiny from bad activists, who see them as threats. Attenpts at men's shelters tend to end in vandalism from those who disaprove. Spray paint, destroyed windows, smashed in doors, ect. Which makes keeping them open even harder, given said lack of funding.
In the end, too many people like you, OP, are the reason why male victims of domestic violence do not have funding or support, not laziness from men. It isnt that women alone pulled themselves up to support each other, but that society favored and recognized female victims, offering them more support. All men are asking for is a proportionate amount of support for male victims and for...well, feminists, to stop downplaying male victims by discouraging recognizing them. To stop insisting that it isnt abuse when a woman does it. Which isnt too much to ask.
I know this is alot, so for those who didnt want a history lesson, I think this little exchange might humble you.
"how hard is not to be stupid" you cry (in the notes like a coward), while calling people insects, throwing insults meant for reddit, and ignoring facts cuz you don't wanna lose your excuse to be a bitch to people.
Bloody hells, going through the reblogs/notes feels weird. The op really likes telling others they should've been aborted or to kill themselves.
How can someone have so much hatred for others that they have never met. Or are they so devoted to dehumanizing people that any morals they had are thrown out the window?
O tempora! O mores! have you considered that maybe I simply don’t enjoy having you morons infesting my notes and getting constant notifications with the stupidest shit i’ve ever seen being spewed in them? have you considered i am under no obligation to tolerate or respond with deference to your idiotic screeds?
Block people then. Instead of being human feces, telling people to kill themselves and complaining that they respond to you ON A PUBLIC SITE, you can just block people.
Otherwise it's pretty fucking obvious you WANT people to respond. So you have something to mock, something to get your rocks off on. Literally you control how many people "infest" the notes on your posts. Stop complaining and insulting people like a petulant child and BLOCK THEM. It's ridiculous that you're acting this way yet somehow expect people to not respond saying what we are.
Stop complaining then. You clearly want to see us if you refuse to do the thing that will make you not see us.
And wow "pissbee." Haven't heard that one before. Can't any radfem have even a hint of originality? Starting to think y'all have a piss kink given how often you twist my url to that.
Men in the States still have it tough. Perhaps not as tough as in Mooseland, but we are still dealing with rise of such bullshit. It was jut easier for them to take control of Canada.
Gotta give them something to shoot for. Let them know they are doing good but, remind them that "just because you are good doesn't mean you can't be better".
We just got the Perfection game. My son is enjoying putting as many pieces inbefore it pops but, that's all he's doing. Then he gave me a try. Been awhile but, I got all in with 3 secs left. He was in awe and super excited to try that. I told him, "You probably won't get it right now but you've been doing great. So keep trying even if you don't make it. You'll keep improving each time and one day, you'll even beat my time." He seemed really excited about it.
Masculine energy is about striving to be better than you are right now. Celebrate your accomplishment and look forward to the next challenge.
The post I'm rebloging was tagged "Tucker Carlson, Fow news, tanning, testicle tanning, toxic masculinity ". The main question is how this could possibly be considered "toxic masculinity"?
For those absolutely confused, in a segment of a series Tucker Carlson called "The End Of Men", Tucker interviews a fitness coach who suggets "red light therapy" as a treatment to increase testosterone levels. Carlson jokingly says, "teticle tanning" and the guy says yeah, "but it's also full body red light therapy". The whole point of the segment is to pitch a possible trestment for decreasing testosterone levels.
The fitness coach also mentioned "bromeopathy", a portmanteau of "bro" and "homeopathy". Essentially, homeopathic medicine and treatments geared towards men. And this is actually essential to undertanding what's wrong with all the criticisms over this segment.
Now, let's get the elephant out of the room. "Testicle tanning" sounds funny, if you have the mentality of a 4 year old. But, honestly, it is a stupid name, and not even what the process is actually called (though that may be the colloquial case now). Tucker knew that, which is why he said it while laughing. That's why the fitness guy chuckled too, and why Kid Rock (yes, he was interviewed as well) just couldn't even. But, a colonoscopy, which could easily be called an "anal probe" because that's what it is. Or breast enlargment treatment could be called " nipple sucking" or "tit vibrators" because that's essentially what the devices are. The point is that, when you see some treatments, even if they have logical, clinical names, how they look can invoke funny ideas, and I think Tucker realized that and tried to "in before" the joke but, that didn't work.
Now, the issue of this being "toxic masculinity". Quite frankly, anyone who believes or calls it that is being overtly misandric. Testosterone levels are an important factor in male health and fertility. They're just as important as estrogen levels sre for female health and fertility. We know for a fact that there are tones of medical and homeopathic treatments on the market to help treat estrogen imbalances in women, but just recently has any attention been given to address testosterone imbalances in men. If trying to improve the hormone levels of males is toxic masculinity, then we've been subjected to toxic femininity for almost half a century before this. In reality, most men and women who exhibit toxic traits tend to have hormonal imbalances. Excess testosterone makes both men and women more agressive and violent, while excessive estrogen makes both men and women more emotional and neurotic. Among that, excessive estrogen is a leading factor in the development of many cancers. I'm sure excess testosterone has it's physiological issues but we really wouldn't know because society doesn't give a fuck about men enough to do in depth research about how their hormones affect them, unlike with women.
I meantioned the "bromeopathy/homeopathy " connection. This is worth mentioning because many criticisms of the misnamed "testicle tanning" is that it is a scam perpetrated by the right, even though it's mainly left leaning men who tend to have the lowest testosterone levels. Howeer, bromeopathy is just a selection of homeopathic treatments that focus on men's health, where as homeopathy generally panders to everyone...but it's main market is women. So, if bromeopathy is an attempt at scamming guys, but it's just a subsection of homeopathy, which is has had success mainly with women, guess what you just implied. How is using science to increase testosterone, more of a scam than selling a bunch of women different crytals for spiritual clensing and sacthels full of dry weeds herbs for aromatherapy. I mean, rubbing essence of fenugreek on your boobs is supposed to increase breat milk production and lot's of women, do that, or maybe they just want a reason to rub their breast more often.
So, red light therapy to increase testosterone, it's not a joke even though is has a funny nickname, and it's not toxic masculinity unless you want to also acknowledge that simalr treatments for women is also toxic femininity.
Finally, as an additional point, I want to acknowledge the last criticism about the series itself. The majority of commentary about the series is from left to far left media sources and outlets. Almost no coverage from center, right, or far right media (including fox news). And, many of the sources make jokes and negative commentary about how homoerotic the imagery is, and make jokes that Carlson might be outing himself. And, that's just not right on many levels. It really reveals how they truly feel about lgbt topics outside of Pride month and direct pandering. When they are not trying to score queer points by kissing the ass of the Alphabet mafia, they have no problem using those identities and sexualities as a joke. I mean, how often have LGBT people complained that they were afraid of being their true self because they were made fun off or teased for their interets? Pretty common. And these outlets show that they are the kinds of people who would make fun of someone who exhibited behavior that might be homo erotic. I do believe that is called "homophobia" in most left leaning circles. Just think about that before you tyy making fun of the depictions in the series, you bigots. A series that is about male bodies and health showing healthy male bodies is mocked as homoerotic in an attempt to shame a man for his possible interests by people who will yurn around and tell others that it's wrong to shame people for their possible homoerotic interests.
