I guess I still do want to know Re: Obikin Zine. Why did you extend applications and encourage people to apply if you already had a limit of contributors? I'm just sad that I was encourage to apply, and the extension made it sound like there wasn't enough applications, only to still be rejected. Maybe it could have been an invite only so we wouldn't feel disappointed for something that felt for "everyone" in the fandom

There was always going to be a limit on number of contributors since the beginning. This is due to the cost of producing and shipping a physical zine.

We extended applications because we had a number of applications that we had to reject straight away due to some of the reasons below, and we did not fill our target number of contributors:

-not having samples that included Obi-Wan and/or Anakin

- samples that did not reflect what people wanted to create for the zine (eg., not showing merch examples or mockups for people that wanted to make merch)

- pitches that didn’t fit with the zine theme (ie., modern or historical AUS)

These points were stated in the zine application guidelines at the start.

We did get a lot applications after the extension for page artists, merch artists, and writers. Other than ruling out the applications that did not fit the rules/theme of the zine, final selection was done at the same time, after the extended applications were closed, so having put in your application earlier or later made no difference.

The mod team also made a point to try and balance out pitches amongst Obikin at different ages, AUs, and top/bottom dynamics, and of the applicable applications, it basically boiled down to having pitches that were on theme and finding that balance.

I’m sorry that you were hurt by the rejection. Ultimately, this is the downside of a physical production. If you want to look into making your own zine, you can make a digital only version with unlimited contributor spots. Or if you want to make a physical zine, I’m also supportive of that and am happy to send resources or help if you want them.
