Weekends were pretty quiet at Broadripple with most of the student body and faculty away visiting their homes and families. Only those who lived too far away to travel or just didn’t want to leave remained on campus and this weekend Hanna found herself among the latter. It wasn’t that she was avoiding home or anything, simply that she hadn’t felt like packing up and returning this week. Something that certainly earned her an earful from her mildly disappointed mother who had no doubt planned yet another jam packed weekend. Three years at Broadripple and the woman still acted as if they were apart for years every time she came home when in reality it was usually only five days.
Lounging in one of the living areas Hanna laid happily content in her cocoon of plushy blankets on the couch. Dark hues fixated upon the only light source emitting from a few feet away; the television. It was rare to find the large screen not being hogged by a bunch of uncivilized freshmen fighting over what to watch. So when Hanna saw a chance to use the vacancy to her advantage and binge watch something she wanted for once, she jumped at it. Her attention only drifted upon the sudden presence she felt behind her. “If you expect me to move any time soon or relinquish my ownership of the remote you’re sorely mistaken.”
Matt didn’t go home as often as he used to when his father still was single. While he tried to be understanding and supporting of his new relationship, it felt a bit like he was sort of just forgetting about Matt all together. At the very least, every other weekend his grandparents sent him enough money to take the bus home to Boston so he was able to see his dog. Only this weekend wasn’t one of those.
So while he wandered into the empty confines of the living area, looking to see if anyone else was around, and if they were too high energy or wanted to do some sort of extreme activity outside of lounging, he figured he could just retreat to his room with snacks, and that gave him a sense of safety. Only when he’d entered, he heard a voice with laced defense. At first it caused a smile as he shook his head. “No, don’t worry. I’m just trying to see how long I can walk around until my baked potato gets done in the microwave. What’re you watching, anyway?”
