One morning, Trinity is bickering with Dennis in the hallway because Amy called him and he, even though is trying to put distance between them, is still a hard thing to do for him. So Trinity is trying to making him stay, but in the end she can’t convince him and Dennis goes.
She comes to the kitchen where Yolanda is, eating a blow of cereal with a smirk on her face and a rise eyebrow.
“Oh come one! Just admit it.”
Trinity stop what’s she was doing in the kitchen and turns around so she is facing her while crossing her arms. “Admit, what?”
Yolanda is seconds away from throwing the bowl at Trinity’s head so she might come into senses. “You know what.”
“If he wants to ho and kiss the floor that Amy walks onto, it’s his problem. But I don’t want that problem in my house, because if he goes he feels bad and if he doesn’t go, he feels bad too. I just don’t want weird energies in my place, that’s all.”
“Yeah of course. You know we are alone, he is not here and I’m not gonna tell him. You can say what’s on your mind.”
Trinity closes her eyes and takes a deep breath before looking back at Yolanda.
“I don’t want anyone to get advantage of him, not anymore. He needs to learn how to say no, and to stop accepting every favor people ask him.”
“Why do you care so much that he is being taking advantage of, he is just your roommate, isn’t he?” Yolanda asks without making eye contact with Trinity and trying to fish her last cereals out of the milk. She knows if she does it, Trinity would close down.
“Fuck, ok, he is not just my roommate, he might be my best friend, ok?”
“Oh fuck off, he is my best friend, ok? You happy now that you got me doing therapy at 7:00 in the morning?”
“Well,” Yolanda say while finishing her breakfast. “I’m happy that you admit, but I’m happier than he heard it.” Says as she points to Dennis at the kitchen’s door.
Trinity turns around at speed of light because it can’t be true, she is being funny. She didn’t heard Dennis comeback, and she is always listening for that.
But of course he is right there. Fighting, and losing, a I-knew-it smile.
“I’m heading to work, see you guys later.” Yolanda says as she puts the bowl in the sink and goes to gather her stuff.
Dennis enters the kitchen to let Yolanda go, and say: “You know that, even though I grew up with brothers, and bullying is my way of knowing people care about me, you can just tell me. I would love that. It would be more efficient because positive reinforce…”
“Oh my god, kill me.” She begs him as she lets herself go down against the wall. “You are gonna be insufferable. Fuck! You cannot tell Victoria or Mel about it.”
“I cannot tell them that I have a best friend?” Dennis asks with a sarcastic tone as he sits himself down next to her.
Trinity starts to hit her head against the wall but when the impact should have happened, it doesn’t hit something hard. She looks and sees that Dennis has put his hand where her head was gonna hit the wall.
“I know you Trinity, as mush as it pains you deeply inside you. I know you because you are my best friend too. I’m trying to put boundaries to not get taken advantage of, that’s why I’m here, after I went out, I called Amy and I told her I couldn’t go, not now, not anymore.”
“Well, at least the bullying worked.” Trinity says as she lets her head rest against Dennis hand.
“If I start petting your head are you gonna bite me?”
“You know, while being religious you play a bit too much with temptation.”
