Starfleet academy has been so genuinely good and enjoyable and fun and heartfelt and quintessentially star trek and I'm just ?!?! Because yeah, season two is wrapped filming, but I do not have high expectations that a third season will be greenlit, and so many loud vocal people bitch about it and I'm not saying everyone has to like everything in a franchise but it's just....so important to me? So good? Every week I just FEEL so much watching it find its feet and these actors are all so incredible and it's a show about hope and love and family and the weight of expectations and healing from trauma both major and minor about generations and learning and growing and still, in your core, choosing to live and love and laugh and grow..genuinely I'm going rabid about it. Infinite diversity in infinite combinations, indeed.

He's on his way to becoming one of my favourite characters. He was introduced as the arrogant "I'm going to be a captain" over-privileged dude bro character and already by episode 4, I'm like "Yes! Yes you are going to be captain someday my boy! But not because you're the masculine dude bro who knows how to order people about but because you're brave, willing to question your actions and correct them when necessary, willing to apologise to your peers, incredibly empathetic/ observant and you're actually able to give emotional and practical support to a peer and friend in emotional distress."

That's why this total gold nugget of a character will be sitting in the captain's chair at some point. Because he's quietly showing the best qualities of leadership. And here's the rub...he probably doesn't even realise this!

Honestly, I don't think they'll be 9th episode and an "actual" final episode. I'd love them to surprise us but I doubt it will actually happen.

I think what's happened is that the Stranger Things crew created a finale episode that is open to multiple interpretations on purpose:

I think for an ordinary non obsessed viewer you could watch it with its "happy ending" and go "that was good/fine." and then move on with your life. In this interpretation of the episode you can either think El died (what "likely" happened) or she lived (if you take what Mike says literally instead of him trying to give her a better ending than she got).

For a hardcore stranger things fan you can pull it apart and see all the glaringly weird nonsensical shit and go "hang on, they lost. They didn't win." Because all these weird things are too weird to not dive into. There's enough hints that vecna won to make you go "shit, they failed."

Once again, there would have been a continuity team on set to make sure things lined up. Its not just about the Duffers brothers writing/plot holes. Some of the continuity issues are just plain impossible to create without intention - the colour change on the dial at the station being one of them. There's no reason to create a prop like that with different colours. Unless it's been done of purpose.

Like a game of D&D, everything is open to interpretation and imagination. Thats what the finale is actually saying. If you want to believe they lived "happily ever after" they did. If you want to believe they failed, got Vecna'd and didn't role a 20. You can.

in all this negativity, I do just want to say that in my opinion Gaten, Caleb and Sadie gave incredible performances and don’t get enough credit.

Last season the Duffers hyped up Finn’s performance in the love confession but (and I don’t mean any offence to Finn here) Gaten, Caleb and Sadie’s performances in the finale were much more impressive.

And really if it was anyone’s season this season, it was Gaten’s. I hope he stays booked and busy
