Tour de Fleece 2026
Life has been kicking my ass the last couple of months but I am finding time to spin, here and there. This is the Northern Lights colorway in Heathered BFL from Greenwood Fiberworks.
Absolute dream to spin and I'll be getting some more in this colorway as soon as I can. Light laceweight, ~250yds so far between this and the other 2ply skein I've just finished.
TdF 2026 has been a bit of a disaster.
I spent the first 2 weeks unable to spin due to working on a giant crochet shawl to wear to an event. The last weekend, i was at said event on the other side of the country.
But NOW I'm home with this whole week off work. I've been spinning since Sunday (pretty much as soon as we were home and fed) and I'm nearly ready to start playing some gorgeous Polwarth i began spinning last year. I'm hoping that finishing up a wip will light a fire under me.
I'm also considering just shifting the dates of the TdF for myself so I can still do the full time for spinning. I mean, it won't be official participation, so to speak, but I was so bummed that i wasn't spinning for the entire time I was working on that shawl. I really don't want to rob myself of the time i lost having to prioritise something else. I also want to stashbust this year so I can 'earn' more fibre at the yarn show I go to every August, and the timing lines up perfectly if I consider Sunday my 'day 1'.
Other than stashbusting, my main goals this year are better bobbin management (which my partner thinks sounds hilarious), and I'm vastly improved in just 2 days. Secondly, I am making sure I do playback tests and keep my ply balanced. We'll see how that goes in the morning!
TdF day 17
I am loving how this silk hanky is spinning up. By far the finest spin I've ever done. My last experience with Tussah roving was a war with the fiber so I've avoided pure silk for years. Someone stop me from buying like 8 more hankies because my impulse control right now is low...
Tour de Fleece has been going well this year. I'm happy to not be on an organized team but rather engaging and sharing with the groups I frequent the most and loosely following the Tour.
Here are some yarns I've been working on since the beginning of the month! Some are long-term projects that are finally coming to fruition, and some are new. I'm really pleased with my progress in making yarn, learning new techniques, and hybridizing techniques to work better for my spinning style.
As an aside, I want to say that I'm incredibly disappointed with the main TdF group that's still hosted on Ravelry and their choice to use genAI banners and welcome images throughout the team threads. Visiting the group and seeing that really solidified my choice to participate elsewhere.
Next up in my āletās empty my woolee winder bobbinsā journey: I started some hand carded merino/angora bunny but wasnāt happy with the thickness Iād chosen, so I decided to ply it with a spool of Rico āCrazy Paillettesā that I got back in 2024 at Munich Knits and didnāt really know what to do with. It looks super cute!!

I got this fun ball of wool roving at a fiber festival because it reminded me of a coelacanth. And now I've spun it up into yarn that ALSO looks like a coelacanth!!
It's coelacanth yarn!! You see it, right??
And in a month or two (or three) it'll be woven into a coelacanth table runner!
Hey. Why isnāt the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isnāt that fucked up? Does anyone else think thatās absurd?
It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! Thatās a big deal! Iāve never thought about it before but now that I have, itās ridiculous to me that thatās not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why donāt we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!
Itās July 20th. Thatās the day of the moon landing. Next year is going to be the 54th anniversary. Iām ordering astronaut shaped cookie cutters on Etsy and Iām going to have a goddamn potluck. Youāre all invited.
