Why do they delete your purchased media (be it video games, movies, music, whatever) in your PSN account?
Why do they close your account after 3 years?
Well, the answer is simply because you don’t own it.
Even though you should because you bought it at whatever ridiculous storefront price it is, you don’t.
They own it. They have end-to-end control over it.
This means: They can spy on your account. They can change the layout of it. They can deny your access to any of your media. They can ban you. They can revoke your access completely. They can force you out of it.
Should they be allowed to do that? Absolutely not.
But they do. And this is why you shouldn’t buy digital-only. You should always purchase either physically and digitally so that you always have a backup-up or just physical-only because that can’t be taken from you.
You don’t let a company take control of what you buy.
Ever. Once you buy it, it is yours to control end-to-end.
That is the point of buying or purchasing something.
That’s its definition. Buying always means owning.
Renting does not. Streaming does not. Subscribing does not. Accessing temporarily in any way does not.
But obviously you have given consent to rent, stream or access temporarily something. You have not done that to buy or purchase something. They force you out of it by changing the narrative, changing the definition of it.
And that is ethically wrong and it SHOULD be illegal!
Why do they do it? They do it because they think they can. No other reason. And that alone is why you don’t buy digital-only from their storefront unless, for some, reason, you’re okay with losing access to that media or you’re okay with losing your money you paid for it with.
Either way, you shouldn’t be because that is stupid and you’re giving them every opportunity to fuck you over and steal your money or steal what should be YOUR possessions or belongings because they sold it to you.
If they SELL something to you, they’re who no longer have any access to it. Not you. Because you bought it.
And they never asked for your consent to take it away.
It’s in their terms of service but they never made it clear to you before you bought that something that it’s not yours to own and the reason why they don’t is because they know it should be. They know that’s what it means.
So you don’t hand over your money if you’re not okay with not owning what you buy and you’re not okay with them suddenly taking it away from you whenever they want to without reimbursing you for it. That’s not what should be happening and they’re in the wrong for that.
And legislation representatives will look into this if you protest loudly enough because they know it’s wrong.
Sony are one of the wealthiest companies on the planet.
But they’ll be shitting bricks right now regardless because all of that wealth can only hold them for so long if they’re not continuing to amass that wealth.
And with such a huge number of people from all over the world cancelling their subscriptions or cancelling their pre-orders… they cannot do anything about it.
The only thing to do is to either reverse course or to try convince the rest of their base to give them even more money to make up for that huge loss of subscribers and pre-orderers. And if they do that, well, it’s not a good strategy to say the least. They’re fucked. They know it.
They’ll hurt and we’ll keep them hurting until they see this our way and understand we’re who has the power.
We’ve put them where they are. We can take it all away.
@maxxjr I’m certainly considering it if XBOX and Nintendo go the same way. I’m holding out hope they won’t as of yet though. Either way, I’m not giving up on videoing games. Not a chance.
They're going to fail you too soon. When one does something like this, they all join in.
I know they do. But like I said. Until that happens, I won’t be switching to PC. PC is just too expensive for me to invest in right now. And I’d want a proper rig. Not just some cheap gaming laptop. It’s a lot to invest in.
Try a mini pc they're cheaper than a full desktop pc and they're powerful. Just suggesting
