It's the Lover

I've never known

Had or seen

Yet so much of life

Has passed in

Pining and longing

Waiting for the lover to arrive

For over a decade

I have prayed

For it to take me

Or just my breath away

A few weeks ago

Out of control

I invited the lover home

A brief encounter

So close

But it was touch and go

Now

There's only recurring regret

Had the opportunity to attend the swearing in of the newly elected Chief Minister of #Karnataka H.D. Kumaraswamy, in Bangalore today. What made attending this even more exciting was seeing Mayawati, Mamta Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav, Tejaswi Yadav, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, D. Raja, Chandrababu Naidu, Sitaram Yechury, Arvind Kejriwal, Sharad Pawar, H.D. Devegowda, Prof. Rajeev Gowda, and Pinarayi Vijayan share a stage! Between December 2017 and January 2018, I along with Ramprasad Alva, Arjun Shatrunjay and Prof. Arnab Mukherjee, Chair, Centre for Public Policy, IIMB, organised 12 seminars in collaboration with the Department of Planning, Programme Monitoring and Statistics, Government of Karnataka. The purpose of the seminars was to highlight the various innovations in governance which have taken place within the state over the past few years. We had several stakeholders, IAS officers, retired judges, experts and NGOs who participated in these seminars on topics of agriculture, sustainability, social justice and empowerment, education, skill development and livelihood, etc. Today the 'Innovative Karnataka Report' - an outcome from the seminars - was released alongside the release of the #NavaKarnataka2025 Vision. Both these were released by Mr. Jairam Ramesh, Rajya Sabha member; Prof. MV Rajeev Gowda, Rajya Sabha member, and Karnataka CM Mr. Siddhiramaiah, along with other ministers of the Karnataka cabinet. Organising the seminars and putting together this report from scratch has been an uphill task and an insight into how slowly our beaucracy works. Nevertheless, it has been an excellent learning experience, made even better by the people I was working with. Spent an hour talking to Psychology students, who are in the final year of their Bachelor's degree, at Kamala Nehru College, University of Delhi. Spoke about the challenges of working with communities on issues of #Disability and #MentalHealth, what a #SocialWorker does/ who a social worker is, the challenges faced in the field, ethical dilemmas, importance of networking, #PolicyMaking, the #AntiPsychiatryMovement and #Advocacy. Each morning

Displacement

Displacement is blue in colour,

with streaks of green in the corners.

Sometimes displacement becomes

the faded lines between black tyre tracks

on busy roads that I’m afraid of.

Displacement is also a rude nudge

that makes my numb foot wake up

in thousands of little pricks of

invisible needles.

Displacement is the distance

Between one home and other,

When the other is not home yet.

But sometimes,

Displacement can just be

equal to the value of

velocity into time.
