Her eyes narrowed as she attempted to decipher the accuracy behind his explanation; she wouldn’t put it past a bandit to offer deceptive information, whether he called it honesty or not. But in her ten years as the madam of the Mariposa, Maeve had grown quite adept at reading others, and outlaw or no, she suspected that he offered her no falsehoods. And truly, what reason did he have to lie to her anyways?
Maeve had to admit, though, that his little speech had piqued her interest. If it wasn’t mere money he and his posse were after, then what was it? What could possibly be of such importance in that safe that he would be willing to ride into Sweetwater and take his chances against the impending arrival of the authorities to retrieve it? Curiosity broke through what might otherwise have been a mask of indifference. But as he stepped closer, her chin rose higher ( both from necessity and a sense of pride ), and she met his gaze with a certain level of daring, a glint in her eyes seeming to say that she was not intimidated or frightened by him.
“ I wouldn’t say I condemn the methods so much as the inconvenience they cause. ” Her voice was still as calm and composed as it had ever been. In fact, even the crashing of the safe falling from the second floor didn’t seem to faze her much; she gave it a mere glance before her attention turned back to Hector. “ There is, of course, the matter of the combination, ” she pointed out, lingering pointedly upon the last word. “ Good luck trying to open that safe without it, darling. ”
She was certainly bold. He liked a woman who was a fearless as she was beautiful; so much more interesting than the multitude who fainted at the thought of meeting someone so dangerous as he. Yet, any self-satisfaction he might have earned was quickly and mercilessly robbed as she mentioned the combination. A small laugh was exhaled, and he straightened his posture, gesturing vaguely to where his men were setting about strapping ropes around the safe. ❛ Surely you do not think I am unaware? ❜ In truth he hadn’t really thought that far ahead, he knew only that reclaiming the safe was an all consuming purpose. But certainly it was nothing a stick of dynamite could not fix...
Shouts from outside signaled that the constabulary was near, and his time was unfortunately drawing short. Reaching out for his gun, itching fingers gripping it tightly, he turned his gaze from her to the sound of gunfire erupting out in the streets. There was a very slim chance she might know of the combination needed to open the safe; and an even slimmer one that he might be able to pry it open without such information. Really he was left with but only one true option.
Turning his gaze back to her, he used the barrel of his gun to tip his hat backwards, and give her a good clear look of his face. ❛ You will have to forgive me, but I am afraid the situation necessitates an... amendment to my plans. ❜ With no further explanation he quickly bent forward, grabbing around her hips only to swiftly stand, leaving her flopped over his shoulder like a sack of grain. Holding onto her legs securely, he began following the safe’s path, as it was drug wildly out by a team of horses. At last, everything was falling into place.

The hint of a smirk pulled at one corner of her lips as he spoke, though it was short-lived. Maeve couldn’t exactly argue his point; those who died this afternoon would be carted away, nothing left of them but the stains of their blood in the dirt, and by tomorrow, a whole new batch of men and women would have arrived by Sweetwater train to indulge in all of the vices Mariposa had to offer. Even so, the rest of the evening would be painfully dull, save for a patron here and there who didn’t at all mind paying for a little entertainment after such a display of bloodshed. It was that, mixed with the fact that she could hardly give him the satisfaction of admitting the truth behind his statement, that kept the facade of irritation upon her features.
“ Nor is greed, ” she shot back, sending a meaningful glance in his direction. With deft fingers, Maeve took the whiskey from him, taking a swig directly from the bottle before handing it unceremoniously back. It wasn’t her preferred sherry, but it would do the job for now. “ Or men who will happily lift the hard-earned wages off of my girls. Hardly what I would call chivalrous. ” The idea that an outlaw such as Hector Escaton would find any merit in being chivalrous was almost laughable. He may not have been as blood-thirsty as the rest of his followers, but he was still a man to be feared — by most, anyway. “ What is it you intend to use our wages for, exactly? ”
The woman had spirit. He liked that. In fact he was fast finding her more interesting than the bandits struggling to secure ropes around the safe upstairs. Turning more fully to face her, both eyebrows rose as she drank, causing the faintest of smiles to grace his lips. ❛ You are a woman who speaks her mind, ❜ he pointed out, to no real audience but her, though it was clear she was not the sort to need telling. ❛ So allow me to repay you with honesty. ❜ Taking the bottle, and a quick drink, he let it slosh back to the counter, moving half a step closer to her. ❛ My men and I have no interest in your earnings. We seek only to reclaim that which was stolen from us --- ❜ stolen from him more specifically; but this acquaintanceship did not necessitate such details. Leaning in even closer, his voice dipping an octave to keep the next words between only he and she, a salacious smirk curled up the corners of his lips. ❛ There lies in this very saloon a safe, the contents of which are precious enough to me that I would spare no man, woman or child to reclaim it. You may... condemn my methods; but there is not so much difference between us. You indulge the vices of others for pay. ❜ pausing then, he lifted the bottle to his lips (perhaps for dramatic effect, it would be difficult to say,) taking a long and savoring swallow before hissing out a satisfied sigh. ❛ And I make others pay so that I may indulge mine. ❜
As if on cue, the safe fell to the first floor with a mighty clatter, kicking up dust and sending splinters of wood flying in each direction, yet the outlaw did not so much as flinch or blink; daring not to tear away his gaze from the beauty before him.

She’d been prepared for them; the sudden hush in the streets had been a telltale sign of their impending arrival, just before the ring of gunshots echoed through the air. Screams broke out as people scattered, but the madam of the Mariposa stood calmly at the bar, one elbow resting on the worn wood of the counter. Her look was not one of concern but annoyance as she watched the bandits filter into the saloon, undoubtedly in search of the saloon’s earnings. Her nonchalance made the entire ordeal seem like something of a routine, further emphasized by the almost familiar way in which she addressed the group’s leader. “ I don’t particularly care if you and your band of miscreants take everything you can carry, but do you really need to kill off all of our clientele in the process? ”
@mayhemist gets all my love
MAYHEM !! It was his favorite sound. The gunshots, the screams, the acrid scent of gunpowder mingling with blood. The combination was hypnotic and invigorating. Not unlike the slightly off-key crescendo of a saloon piano, the sort where you knew what the next note would be yet you sat in anticipation of its sound. His men know their orders; leave no one who stood in their way alive; the safe being of utmost priority. Inside the saloon his men wasted no time in laying waste to the men who thought themselves heroes, and even less in getting distracted by the women. Yet, Hector Escaton himself was no savage. He had come to this fine establishment. It would be a PITY to waste such an opportunity to partake in his third favorite vice. He had just come to the bar, laying his shotgun down on its worn wooden top when a melodic voice met his ears, drawing up his dark gaze from beneath the brim of his hat. He lets her inquiry simmer, taking the time to pour himself a glass of the finest whiskey the Mariposa had to offer, then savoring its sweet, husky flavor. The chaos that erupted around them seemed to bother the outlaw little as he shifted his stance, glancing the woman over once, then twice with great appreciation for her captivating beauty. ❛ There are many things in this world which are in short supply, ❜ he said pointedly, almost as if giving a speech to an unseen audience, the masses dangling off each eloquently enunciated word. ❛ But men seeking the company of a beautiful woman? ❜ A quick motion and the rest of the burning whiskey was down his throat. With a hiss, his gaze found hers, cool and steady. ❛ That, is not one of them. ❜
A quick glance to the second floor of the saloon proved that his men were seeming to have some difficulty with their task. A small sigh left his lips as dusty hands reached once more for the neck of the bottle of whiskey.

Hector and Armistice enjoying themselves with automatic weapons!! (christmas came early for these two!)
Rodrigo Santoro - Westworld
badassblackwidowcavalry:
I’m a sucker for ships that could kill each other, but would die for each other.
(ooc) I'm not asking to offend, I truly want to understand... What's the big deal with Hector? Isn't he a bit clichè? Why do you think people like him so?
Of course he’sclichè, he was programmed that way. Doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy it, or him. Do I think he’s the most interesting character on the show? No. Maeve is by far, but I love him and I love his potential. I love the ship with Maeve, I love how he’s a rough tough bad boy outlaw who speaks like an aristocrat and who can’t even bring himself to cut a woman when she asks him to. Plus he’s adorable.
The familiar press of cold steel to his throat gave Hector pause. How had he not heard the approaching footsteps? Arrogance, he reasoned. It was not as if he had much to fear in these hills. They were all but a second home to him. The very man who had last tried to collect his bounty now laid dead, while his companion had fled unharmed. It had been a puzzling encounter to be certain. but not the strangest of Hector Escaton’s lifetime. This certainly made his list, though. Cautiously he raised his hands to where they could be seen, body tensing as he realized his own gun was set two feet away, in need of reloading even if he managed to make a dive for it. It would seem, he had met fate early today. A shame, really, that Armistice was still no less than a day’s ride out.
❛ I don’t suppose there is a way I might persuade you not to pull the trigger? ❜ Crouched over the stream’s bed, his hands soaked from where he had just been washing them of blood, he glanced over his shoulder to see just at whose mercy he sat. The fact that it was a woman did nothing to dissuade the concern for his life. He knew too well the capabilities of a woman, and that many were far more lethal than their less-fair counterparts.
Strive to be equally beautiful and terrifying.
