How to turn off AI-scraping from your Word documents
Microsoft Office, like many companies in recent months, has slyly turned on an “opt-out” feature that scrapes your Word and Excel documents to train its internal AI systems. This setting is turned on by default, and you have to manually uncheck a box in order to opt out.
If you are a writer who uses MS Word to write any proprietary content (blog posts, novels, or any work you intend to protect with copyright and/or sell), you’re going to want to turn this feature off immediately. How to Turn off Word’s AI Access To Your Content
I won’t beat around the bush. Microsoft Office doesn’t make it easy to opt out of this new AI privacy agreement, as the feature is hidden through a series of popup menus in your settings:On a Windows computer, follow these steps to turn off “Connected Experiences”:
File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Privacy Options > Privacy Settings > Optional Connected Experiences > Uncheck box: “Turn on optional connected experiences”
Gonna yell about it again...
If you do not absolutely need Word (for work or school or a functionality that exists literally nowhere else), just stop using it.
For a 1:1 Word replacement, I'd always recommend LibreOffice. There's also a version of OpenOffice still around, though it updates at a slower pace.
If you're a fiction writer and would like to switch to a dedicated novel writing software, the free options tend to be a bit limited. However, there is SmartEdit Writer, which looks a lit like a slimmed-down Scrivener (which is pretty much the writing app, but has a one-time cost).
Most people don't need Word. It's just what's familiar. And even there, LibreOffice is very similar in design. It will also generally read your Word docs out of the box. The switch really isn't hard, I promise.
By all means, yell as much as you want.
does anyone know if i can like block sites from appearing in my google images searches??? i keep getting those awful ai generated things with a hand coming out of a man's neck and just straight up not what i was looking for, because this was in a search for "curly hair in medieval paintings". it happens every time i search for anything vaguely art-reference-like and it's so fucking annoying and it clutters my search results so much. i don't wanna add specific commands to the query every time too, what i need is like a browser extension or something
Download uBlacklist for Firefox. Blocks sites you specify from appearing in Google search results
okay i found one! it works! everyone come get your blacklist 👍👍👍
I made a list of as many ai sites i could find to block with ublacklist, just copy and paste them in ublacklist's options menu
Medibang Premium is out
So I wanted to write about the newly released "Medibang Premium" that we got today and what it means for people who use the Medibang Paint cloud service on PC or Android and apple devices.
The limit is 3GB. If you go over this limit, your files will be locked to flat versions which you cannot export or save.
If you have more than that in use, it seems you can only get the files back via subscribing to the Premium version of the program. They have a FAQ out about this.
If you have a shared team with someone else and e.g. their account has used up the 3GB space, it means you will not be able to access your own files in their team anymore either and viceversa.
Some older files will be deleted over time. ("Files that exceed the storage capacity will be deleted after a certain period of time.")
You can view how much space your files take up here: https://medibang.com/myProfile/premium/
This is all the more important info I've gathered from youtube comments, what's been going on with my own account (RIP past me for getting comfortable with a cloud service) and the official sites. You can get more info in their Premium FAQ: https://medibang.com/faq/#faq_premium12
I think it sort of makes sense that they are moving to a subscription-based model and I am personally more sad and slightly disappointed in this rather than angry. Cloud services cost a lot and a few years ago I wouldn't have been surprised if they switched over and even anticipated it back then. But now I've just gotten a bit too comfortable with using the cloud service itself and forgot to make a post about last month's announcement so this is to make up for that. If you have something to say about this update or you feel upset about it, please make your own post or write elsewhere on social media.
Sorry for the late post, I've been busy and I completely missed the points made in the first announcement (I thought something else was going to be deleted), so I hoped the subscription service was more optional.
It essentially is but for those of us who have used the android/apple app for a long time and have built up files over the years (I personally have over 20 GB of files over the past 5 years, oops), things are going to change a bit.
Hey buddies, my commissions are open, I have six slots running right now.
More Info.
Some close-ups of yesterday's post. Can you tell I'm really proud of this one?
Wanted to redo my mias old outfit sheet.
