Traumatized in Ireland While my Family is Facing Death and Starvation in Gaza
Has it become normal Now that the defenseless civilians in Gaza face death and starvation on a daily basis?
Hell No!
F*ck No!!!
Note: Vetted by:
1. @el-shab-hussein and @nabulsi # 151 on the spreadsheet of Vetted Gaza Fundraisers List]
2. @riding-with-the-wild-hunt Here .
I contemplate the happy faces of people around me here in Ireland and reminisce about the happy normal life my family and I had before the war. A life that turned into a distant memory for us and was replaced by an unending series of horrible nightmares.
Unlike my family in Gaza, people here have access to drinking water, all types of food, electricity, and a roof over their heads. Above all, they are safe, and I cannot help but wonder if they genuinely do appreciate these blessings in their lives enough.
People seem relaxed and laughing wholeheartedly around me in Ireland. I wish I could laugh too, but I am crushed way beyond recovery on the inside. I was evacuated by my Irish college after five months of living the horrors of war in Gaza. I hope you will never know what it feels like to live in constant fear and worry and be horrified by the most sickening and scary nightmares every single night while you are far away from your family in such circumstances.
When did my people in Gaza cease to be human beings worthy and deserving of a normal life? Has it become normal now for my family in Gaza to be starved and killed while the whole world is watching the genocide? If that is the case, then you will have to excuse me if I seek every avenue to bring them to Ireland and start a new normal life like all people here around me.
I was assured by the Irish Reugee Council (IRC) and lawyers in Ireland that there is hope I can reunite with my family in Ireland. In difficult times, it is hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. For me and my family, you are literally our light and hope for a better life.

Update!!! We Are So Close to Safety
Please do NOT give up on my family in Gaza!
After months of uncertainty, we finally have a glimmer of hope. My wife is expected to evacuate to Ireland in early August with the support of my Irish college. At the same time, other members of my family are hoping to evacuate temporarily to Egypt while they wait for their reunification visas to join us in Ireland.
But we cannot get there without your help.
Every step toward safety comes with overwhelming costs (evacuation, border crossings, temporary accommodation, travel, visa expenses, and the challenge of rebuilding our lives after everything we have lost). These expenses are simply beyond our family's means.
If you have already donated, thank you for giving us hope. If you are able to help again, or if you can share our campaign with others, it could make the difference between my family remaining in danger or finally reaching safety.
Your kindness is helping us survive today and giving us the chance to rebuild our lives together. Thank you for standing with us

The concept that married people live longer is interesting. I'm sure there is some merit to the idea that if you're married there is someone there to nag you about going to the doctor, but I think much larger factors are having the finances of dual incomes and access to an immediate support person.
Surgeries require having a designated person to look after you. Many injuries require driving to somewhere like an emergency room which can be hard to do if you are the one injured. If you're home with the flu, it's hard to tell when it's bad enough to go to the hospital without another person checking on you. And if you pass out it requires another person to find you like that to get medical aid.
You can prop it up as the benefits of marriage, but I think there's a much deeper discussion to be had about how we've built society around marriage as an inevitable conclusion and neglected to build support systems that function outside of romantic pairings.
Hereās the thing. Married MEN live longer. The statistics for married women are less clear, perhaps because one of the things that causes premature death for married women is getting murdered by their husbands. Itās good to have someone around to drive you home after your surgery, to nag you to go to the doctor, to take you to the ER if you need it, and itās usually wives that are taking on that care role for husbands, but itās often sisters and mothers who are doing it for other women.
Single women also tend to build networks in a way that single men do not, so they get the benefits of relationships in other ways.
Iām curious what the statistics will look like among same-sex married pairs, because I feel like they are both more likely to get the benefits of marriage than women who are married to men.
okay so i reblogged this but i am reblogging again to issue a correction on a thing i think is important: while obviously intimate partner homicide is obviously the most likely murder to experience as a woman, murder is just not a very likely way to die, and men are much more likely to be murdered, in general, than women both globally and in almost every individual country.
it's much more likely than married women die earlier because of the labor and time their husbands extract from them. married mothers get less sleep than single mothers. let that sink in.
i do think pop-feminist concerns tend to overvalue the more dramatic crimes men commit against women and undervalue the banal extraction of labor involved in everyday gender relations.
mwah is a very important word
Go for it. I don't even care any more.
These scientists are frantically leaving haunting voice recordings and health packs around their lab as we speak. Look, that one's writing a message in blood on the wall.
no matter how hard i try, nothing i write will ever be as fucked up as the stuff somebody who thinks they're creating a Wholesome AU with unexamined beliefs will make.
couldn't leave this in the tags
WEāRE NOT DOOMED: Tue July 14, 2026 Today we actually had a whole lot of really big wins, so youāve probably had your feed covered with them. But we can never have enough, so here are three more.
Starting in Nevadaā¦
Reno, Nevada
Mon, June 1 - What started as a 30 day data center moratorium back in May, became a data center moratorium till August 2027 after a 9 hour special city council meeting that mostly consisted of public comment against data centers.
The most important name you need to know here is Councilmember Meghan Ebert, who, like many her colleagues is running for reelection this year.
While this extended moratorium was introduced by Council Member Devon Reese, it was Ebert who made sure the decision included language explicitly stating that the moratorium cannot end until there are actual regulations in place.
She is also concerned that Reese is only doing this because he is running for Mayor and that he will immediately flip on this if he wins. She told Nevada Current:
My community does not have trust that this body will follow through on any promises. So I need to have something in code, and I need to show my community that they will be protected, and that this isnāt a political stunt
And itās important to mention one other player, Councilmember Kathleen Taylor, who was not just against the August 2027 moratorium but also the only member of the city council who voted against the original 30 day moratorium. And sheās also running for mayor.
And, the one negative, the smaller data centers that are already in progress, will still be completed. Which sucks, but those larger ones really wonāt be happening anytime soon.
So this is a reminder of the power of a good elected official, and of fighting back against injustice. I can almost guarantee you, no moratorium would have happened at all without people fighting back.
Chelmsford, England
Fri, June 12 - Chelmsford is a city in Essex and on June 20, Essex held their Pride parade. Leading up to that, the city council commissioned several artists to draw queer art across the city in shop windows.
Some of it was TERF friendly, as in, it didnāt mention trans people, and some of it very much wasnāt.
Hayley Wells painted āThere is no LGB without the Tā on Toast, a local coffee house.
And Bucky Ringsell drew a tiger with top surgery scars that said āProud of my Stripesā inside the local Lush store window.
Of course, terfs were outraged by Ringsellās design. As far as I can tell, the only thing Chlemsford did to quiet them was remove Rigsellās design from their Facebook posts showcasing the murals. Iāve seen nothing to suggest it was actually removed in person.
And Ringsell even posted on Instagram:
The mural is part of a city-wide Pride campaign. I designed and painted this tiger to support and represent trans folks who have undergone top surgery ā myself included. Being proud of your scars (aka stripes) is something everyone can take inspiration from, regardless of your journey.
Would I love if Chlemsford City Council hadnāt removed the photo from their Facebook page? Yes, of course. But if thatās all they did, and the artwork was still up in person, thatās still a very loud statement, especially in England. And that matters.
Kentucky
Mon, June 15 - Instead of focusing on something Governor Andy Beshear has no control over, letās focus on something he does.
Ahead of Juneteenth, he signed an executive order creating the Freedom Trails Pardon List. This pardons 43 people and counting who had been criminalized for helping free those enduring enslavement in the 1800s.
He signed the order with Rev. Andrew Baskin, professor emeritus, specifically in the African and African American Studies department at Berea College and James Prichard, a historian focusing on Kentucky during the Civil War Era.
As he was signing it, he explained to the girl standing next to him, who I can only assume is Baskinās daughter:
We get to make a pretty loud statement that what they did was right, they shouldnāt have been prosecuted for it, and while we canāt go back in time and change that, we can certainly recognize their actions as heroic today.
This is not a complete list either. Beshear wants to pardon everyone he can. So if you know someone or have a family member who should be on this list, you can email the governor at [email protected].
This is an ongoing process, and, as Prichard said during the signing, at a time:
when there seems to be an effort to sanitize our past, that this part of our history is no longer swept under the rug and becomes a part of Kentuckyās soil.
Thatās what makes this story so incredibly powerful. Not just that Beshear is doing this at all, but that heās doing this when the federal government wishes he was doing literally anything else.

just tried to reference the xkcd "today's lucky 10,000" comic but I wanted to explain xkcd first, so I was like "you probably know the one about experts in the field overestimating their audience's familiarity with the subject matter" and uh. he didn't. love me some irony
Colorado has voted to fund universal free school lunches by raising taxes on people earning more than $300,000 a year. Any excess funds can be used to fill in the gap for federal cuts to SNAP food aid
Via bsky: this is how it looked on the ballot. A simple idea simply explained.
I also love that itās an average of 486$ per person making MORE THAN 300k? Thatās it? Thatās all it fucking takes?? Wild that anyone would fight that.
Chat, is it considered āabusive roommate behaviorā to release a raccoon into the living space after you have asked your roommate for months to please clean up their messes (they do not pay any of the mortgage)
For context, when I used to live alone I would do something called āPrincess Timeā where I would do an initial sweep (to remove any significant hazards) and then I would release a raccoon into the living area and clean. This helped because I would 1) feel like a princess and 2) the raccoon would bring attention to things my ADHD brain had decided to ignore and Iād quickly clean that stuff up.
So like, if Iām expected to clean the house now, I will be doing it in the way that is most effective for me. And anything that has not been cleaned up after months of having sit-down talks and sending reminders and being promised things will change, might be deemed ātrashā by the trash panda and thrown away.
We havenāt done since we moved into the house, because I didnāt want to cause my roommate or their cats destress or have their things destroyed by a raccoon
I am a raccoon biologist and one of the few people in the state allowed to take in captive bred raccoons that had been possessed illegally. The raccoon in the photos is Moonshine, but she is currently at the animal sanctuary where I work as I had been quarantining multiple new intakes from an abuse case. I still have two males (Rum Tum Tugger and Electra) left in my home enclosure as we are getting them neutered and then hopefully sending them to an AZA accredited zoo.
I wanna make things very clear that underneath all the whimsy, I am a trained professional.
Those vibes are likely because Iām the original creator of Dashcon and my personality has not changed since 2012 lmao
