PART 1. Did you know that access to clean water and sanitation are a prerequisite to enjoying other forms of human rights? That's why in July 2010 @unitednations proclaimed access to clean water and sanitation as a human right. From birth to death of a human being, there are certain freedoms that everyone should enjoy. For instance, everyone has the right to education, to express themself, to life and so forth. These are human rights. Did you also know that it is the state's responsibility to ensure its citizens get clean water and live in a healthy environment? Now, is it possible for the Kenyan government to carry out this task to more than 50 million citizens? In this short #documentary #photography project that I have called "A tale of human dignity; the value of water and sanitation", I #communicate through #photography and #words the simple things humans do with water, and a mode of disposing household waste. While a section of society enjoys the right to sanitation, there is another section that is challenged when it comes to disposing either household or human waste, or both. Truth is, not all Kenyans and people in different parts of the world can access clean water. Whereas 2.6 billion people cannot get basic sanitation, more than 880 million don't have access to safe drinking water. In Kenya, the most affected places are urban areas due to high population growth rate. Informal settlements are leading in this and with such inequalities, a section of the society is prevented from enjoying their human right. Is this fair? Certainly not! The second part of this project will focus on #Kibera area where there's inadequate supply of water and poor sanitation. With the two drawbacks, not only children but also more than 200 thousand people are faced with a huge health hazard. Although youths and non-profits in the area have taken it upon themselves to create a clean environment and ensure residents can access water, it is not enough! @unsrwatsan Photos 📷 : @mayjoynamu #Youth4watsan #sdg6 #sdgs #water #photojournalism #documentaryphotography (at Nairobi, Kenya)
