When the knitting social media site, Ravelry, is the only social media site with the balls to do what’s right….

Annoying knitting things
Nearing the end of a long tail cast on and realizing the long tail is about two inches too short.
Patterns that don’t have row numbers.
Forgetting a yarn-over.
Yarn snobs (not everybody can afford to buy $25 skeins, dammit)
Realizing the size needles you need are the one size you don’t have.
Having to go to work instead of being able to stay at home and knit.
Splices in the middle of a skein.
Realizing halfway through a project that you really should have taken the time to make a gauge swatch.
•Patterns that don’t go beyond XL
This isn’t knitting related, but I’ve been rewatching The Flash, and I keep wondering what kind of sewing machine Cisco is using for those suits.
There’s no way that boy is hand sewing those fabrics. They seem awfully thick for a standard machine too. Did he engineer a special one? Why do we never see it? Is there a craft room somewhere deep within STAR Labs?
We need these important questions answered, DC.
The real questions
I mean, they’re too secretive for him to hire a steamstress, so he has to be the one sewing them
I’m picturing a room with bolts of high tech maroon fabric and lightning-bolt-shaped molds for the emblems
I’m picturing a 5-minute short of him learning to sew, including the destruction of a machine after he accidentally sews through his finger. And lots of trips to the local fabric store.
I would watch that.
Addendum: at some point he gets so frustrated with the fabric not behaving that he opens a breach and throws the whole sewing machine in
So it’s specially designed fabric, right? To be able to withstand Barry’s speeds. Is it specially designed in that Cisco treats it with something or is it synthetic from the ground up? And if it’s the first option, did he try to treat it before sewing the costume, realized that was a big mistake, and now sews and then treats?
Trying to sew pre-treated fabric is probably where the frustrated breach-toss happens.
(This is my favorite conversation btw)
I love that picture. Just straight up frustration yeets the fabric. It ends up in a universe where Cisco designed a machine that could handle the fabric instead of post production treating and he’s like “yay! free fabric!”
Either that or he yeets the whole project, sits there for two seconds, then he’s like “fuck I needed that” and breaches himself through to get it.
lol i love this but did someone actually say they’re secretive on this show? They don’t lock their front door and Barry tells literally every person he meets his identity??
I’m team Cisco learns how to sew and his whole sewing circle and supply store is always asking him for updates about their adventures
lol true, though they still might be protective enough not to hire someone to sew Flash suits
I want a spin-off series that’s just behind the scenes of Cisco making things now
Still waiting on a “Cisco’s crafting corner” spinoff
I refuse to make things that are “too pretty to be used.” If I make you something, it’s because I want you to use it! The worst thing you could do to me is say “oh this blanket/scarf/hat you made me is too pretty to use, I’m gonna fold it up and look at it and never ever touch it again.” No!!! I made that to be be used and touched and cuddled and snuggled and, yes, worn out!! I want you to use it so much it falls apart!! It’s like I went to give you a hug and you were like “Ooh, thanks! Go sit on that shelf so I can look at your outstretched arms forever!” No!!! Hug the thing I made for you to hug!!!

me: I really wanna go yarn shopping
also me: YOU ALREADY HAVE SEVENTEEN PROJECTS GOING AND ENOUGH YARN TO FILL UP A SMALL CARGO SHIP
also me: YOU DO NOT
also me: NEED MORE
also me: YARN
me: yes but consider
me: I want to
Knitting is such a weird combination of precision and winging it like this is supposed to be relaxing but there is also a small twinge of anxiety.
that knitting feel when it’s been a while since you’ve done a certain kind of stitch and your first attempt is just immediately “oh no this is wrong go back go back undo”
Random thought, but like, knitting is so amazing, you do this thing with your hands and the result can be whatever you want...!!
Geez. I’m Knitty, Weave, Stabby Machine without the pastels, and as a mom of 7 and tattoo artist, I’m Master of Lace (because lemme tell ya, I have Seen Some Things)
The anxiety is real 😂
i know i say this all the time but wow. knitting is so cool. i can just imagine an item of clothing i’d like and just… make it myself. i can make cool things and wear them on my body!! i love seeing nice jumpers in shops and plotting in my head how i’d go about making them myself. it’s the best feeling!! i want to get someone i love a nice gift so i’ll consider what they’d like, my hands will get to work, and now the item exists?? it’s such great stuff knitting is the best
Too accurate! 😂🤣👏
If you only write patterns up to a size XL and never go any bigger, you’re not a good designer.
Come at me. I said it.
Just coming back to this after not being on tumblr much for awhile.
Apparently it touched some thin people nerves! Good! Be mad at me. Then take what I said and turn it into making your patterns inclusive.
Because this isn’t just an off-hand post made out of rage. If you can’t be inclusive, you need to work on your skills to make patterns in more sizes. There are people who do it. Indie designers. I’ve test knit them before. It’s not impossible. But if you don’t want to be bothered, then you’re either lazy or a bigot. Or not very good at your job.
Large companies and magazines who take pattern submissions — if they can’t be made up to a 4X at least, they should be automatically rejected. No excuses.
Don’t come at me with “some designs just don’t look good over a size L” nonsense. That is simply not true. Maybe some break the fatphobic fashion “rules” that are out there, but we shouldn’t be adhering to those anyway! Because they’re rooted in oppression. But if someone feels good and likes how they look in something at ANY size, then it’s for them.
And the word “flattering” is garbage.
Me to myself: I’m really trying to knit from my stash before I buy anymore yarn.
Myself to me: Girl, who isn’t? Just add that yarn to your cart.
Me: Yeah knitting is very relaxing
Me, knitting: I thirst for blood
