Modern day Loustat Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid for Entertainment Weekly
Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
they killed him for this
just some of my favorite science fiction. i tried to think of what all of these have in common and honestly, it might just be the incredibly specific vision that each book had. none of these felt like generic main characters, plots, or writing styles.
I love u narrative songs 💖💖💖
Too many generic love songs not enough songs about one specific ass situation
tag the first song you think of
currently reading the strength of the few and my guy james islington really didn't help his readers out. no recap, no subtle reminders about what happened previously. just dropped into a world where i don't remember who anybody is or what they did.
The Bargain
Mary Jo Putney
April 5, 2026
Historical Romance
⭐⭐⭐/ (6.14 / 10.0)
One Sentence Review: The premise (a lady marries a dying soldier to fulfil the inheritance clause her father set) is great; the execution is muddled and middling.
Because You're Mine
Lisa Kleypas
April 1, 2026
Historial Romance
⭐⭐/ (5.0 / 10.0)
One Sentence Review: This book had everything: a shockingly stupid and submissive FMC; a personal conflict that made zero sense; multiple sexual assaults by the MMC; inexplicably melodramatic parentage reveals; a 30 year old going after an 18 year old because she is virginal, naive, fresh, and young (his words); holy regressive gender politics, Batman!
Attacking Earth and Sun

March 4, 2026
Literary Fiction (in translation)
⭐⭐⭐
One Sentence Review: I think I lack the cultural context to fully appreciate what this story is doing; my takeaway is that the French colonization of Algeria also made some of the French colonizers feel bad, whether from cholera or infintesimal crises of conscience.
DNF
Rainbows End
Vernor Vinge
Science Fiction
pp. 182 out of 381
One Sentence Review: This "next gen tech thriller" has interesting worldbuilding but not particularly interesting characters and it seems the least interesting character has the most space on the page.
The Thief of Always
Clive Barker
March 7, 2026
Children's Horror
⭐⭐⭐/ (5.71 / 10.0)
One Sentence Review: The first sentence or two of this story are literally perfect, but the villains are too grubby and the atmosphere too claustrophobic for me to rate this very high.
Sunshine (reread)
Robin McKinley
March 17, 2026
Urban Fantasy
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
One Sentence Review: A cowardly baker and an unsettling vampire who is only marginally less bad than all the really bad vampires is a crack team operation I will always want to see.
The Worst Woman in London
Julia Bennet
March 6, 2026
Historical Romance
⭐⭐⭐ / (6.85 / 10.0)
One Sentence Review: The friendships in this book work really well, but all the reckless behavior between the two leads for horniness's sake doesn't actually make that much sense with what's at stake.
The Works of Vermin
Hiron Ennes
March 3, 2026
Horror Fantasy
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ / (8.86 / 10.0)
One Sentence Review: Lush, strange, horrible and lovely, this book collected some of my very favorite ideas and tropes, then added cool shit I've never thought of in my life and delivered a near perfect story.
