One player in a ttrpg Sburb/Sgrub session I'm running is a cherub on Aternia's ruins, and I decided to give that player this as an option to prototype on a whim. I couldn't figure out how to replace the text though, so I did this.

I was going to save the Tumblr release of this for 4/13, but I've already waited a few days and got bored. Glasses have a bridge just so they don't look like weird off-model eyes, and I think I'm getting better at making hair that kind of works. There's a wall of exposition below the cut, delivered with the same degree of subtle nuance you can expect from consorts.

This is Cole Valence, a young individual who enjoys hobbyist high voltage electronics, lasers, chemistry that's hit every hazard symbol there is, and the occasional foray into the most fringe metaphysics and pseudoscientific stuff imaginable.

This kid's Guardian who they call their father is almost genetically identical to them by percentage, with this situation caused by blatant misuse of ectobiological equipment within the medium: Cole manually altering their Father's genetic code and cloning that one instead of using the obvious solution.

They're a Prospit dreamer, being driven to extremely incorrect conclusions mostly as a consequence of viewing every problem as something already well understood by whoever says it first. They don't deny magic's existence, but will try to quantify, optimize, and understand it even if it's terms are just whatever the author needs in the moment.

They got the worst land in their session without question, ending up with the Land of Lead and Mercury. This heavy metal poisoning is part of what contributes to the decision to do some untrained genetic tampering. Though the lack of caution wasn't anything new, there was also some delirium brought about by the dehydration and anemia it can bring.

As a Thief of Doom, this character has a tendency to suffer misfortune in place of others by unknowingly taking the doom of others for themselves. The only benefit to god-tier powers before the Denizen is being more able to control how often that happens, and indirectly ends up acting as a difficulty setting for everyone else.

Post Denizen, they'd learn how to finally dump their various accrued misfortunes on someone else by stealing negative amounts of Doom from their target. Despite the aspect's influence not being quantifiable in any sense, it still works for weird symbolic and abstract magical reasons.

Homestuck shower thought

Since they have captchalogue cards as an in-universe inventory system, are women in the homestuck universe uninhibited by lack of convenient on-person storage, as in the real world with pocketless clothing (or arguably worse, fake pockets)?

Do they need pockets?

Does anyone in the homestuck universe need pockets?

Do handbags (or any kind of bag) need to exist in a world with captchalogue cards?

And what about pickpockets?

Given that Dad Egbert has a wallet themed modus, I think it's a safe assumption that fetch modii have largely replaced most other storage methods. Given the presence of pockets on some articles of clothing, their rise to prominence may have been within the lifetimes of the kids. They may also be on the more expensive side to obtain as only Jade and John have more than one, maybe even a status symbol on-par with having expensive consumer electronics.

John's cause minimal confusion but are the least scalable, making them probably a more entry-level set.

Jade's are a great many novelty ones, none being even remotely practical.

Dave has one that will force him to be careful with every action, even under pressure. The Striders have a lot of expensive stuff despite their visibly dire financial situation, so this could be an expense for Dave's training.

Rose only has one, but it's one she enjoys using for the neat organization it handles for her. Her mom likely got one for her the moment she heard Rose wanted one, and chose one it seemed like she'd like.

As for pickpockets, they could have something like a "Hacked Modus" for lack of a better name that lets them copy the contents of a nearby card.

Guess whose household just found out that touch-based glass button surfaces, a faulty set of internal circuits for said electric stove, a concerning density of loose plastic on unused eyes, and four cats who all like to climb on the counters, all add up to a bigger fire hazard than the dryer nobody clears the lint from.

who's the dude in the round shades

Dave Strider. They're technically aviators, but there's another character with pointy sunglasses, so I felt like it was a good way to tell the difference without too much relying on remembering names.

He's interested in being seen as cool and indifferent, but he really just cares about things and people more than he's comfortable admitting. When he likes something, it's usually "ironic" according to him, with some decoys thrown in so it's harder to tell which interests are real.

He has a hard time being sincere and, over three in-comic years, eventually grows into a more introspective guy. (Though still a bit inexpressive.)

i want to get into homestuck bc one of my moots invited me to a homestuck group (thank you i appreicate !!!) probably because i like almost any post of theirs that comes across my dash without prejudice but i dont know anything about homestuck except for some of the fan website thing. anyway i told my roommate i wanted to get into homestuck and she immediately began judging me so theres that. like she clocked my ass but i do not want to repeat what was said as to retain my dignity on here.

For context, though not as an excuse for the comment made of you: It had a bit of a reputation for developing a toxic fandom which was so large that it spawned the other majorly feral fandoms of the internet that are still around today.

Which was at least partly true, but it's not like the author was encouraging that or subliminally planting messages to make the audience like that. It just resonated with people, especially with irresponsible kids who had unrestricted internet access and saw themselves loosely reflected in the characters.

Why is homestuck trending again

It got an animated pilot, and the website was fixed with a "rerelease" event, which was that it updated with a fair few pages every weekday with dedicated spaces for new fans. Also, a sequel has allegedly picked up steam as the new alien species got introduced. And a Dave vinyl figure. It's been a very intense time for the franchise lately.

At least, I can assume that's what caused it when this was posted. I can't say for sure.

I've got a character idea for a changeling, but not the actual specifics to make it work in-setting. I'll use a cut since it's going to be a bit long and I don't want to clutter things.

Once, in the latter portions of the age of exploration, there was a french privateer who did contract work for anyone who would pay. He was a large man for his profession (and rather poorly groomed as he saw it as needless vanity) known in his time as Captain Giffard, and came across a piece of jewelry he couldn't bring himself to sell. A silver pendant in the shape of a human skull, with ruby eyes inset and fine golden inlays that made signs of protection from various faiths and languages, living and dead. He cared for his newfound possession as his most prized belonging, admiring both the craftsmanship its maker put into it and the tastes of whoever commissioned it. He kept it clean, polished it as well as he could, and wore it everywhere he wanted to be recognized. Eventually, the amulet was considered to be as good as his face by all who could identify him, and he was no longer the heavyset captain with a rough face, but the man with the morbid pendant. As his legend became entwined with his pendant, it was infused with an essence none could describe. Whenever he wore it now, the sea would seem to change somehow and he would perform impossible feats, such as simply running the distance between them or swinging from a rope at sixty meters away to reach the ships, which would invariably surrender even after understanding that they had to have misunderstood due to fear. As with all mortals, however, he fell. The amulet was passed around rather often, and all who wore it sought to recapture Giffard's legend or take his identity, but none were able to harness its rumored power as it dragged down all who saw it as just a resource or lucky charm with no regard for its history, design, or quality.
