there’s this term i coined in my friendgroup i call “the charizard effect” and it can apply to anything and everything, but it was born from me explaining my feelings about the pokemon charizard. the term is basically about how overexposure to something be it by corporate shilling or fandom prominence drives me away from really enjoying something bc i’m exposed to it so much against my will i become tired of it. it came to me bc i was ranting about how tpci does not, and cannot stop reinventing charizard, and how it is popular and obtusely included in almost every region, merch, etc in every way possible and it’s highly commodified.

i dont dislike the pokemon charizard, in fact i really like its X form, but i am exposed to so much charizard in my pokemon consumption that i cant be bothered to care for it in any more than in passing. this applies to a bunch of other stuff i’d otherwise be ok with, but i always just call this aversion phenomena “the charizard effect”

making this term has done numbers for me being able to concisely express how i feel abt something. like. its not charizard’s fault i feel this way, im sure i’d feel normal abt it if it was stripped of all this over commodification, but i cannot. hence the name

I broke up with my bf of 5 years ! Honestly feeling good ! I've been meaning to break up for quite a long time but never found the right moment. Now that it's done, I feel like a weight has been lifted 😌

Everything's good in the end, we decided to stay friends. I can finally stop worrying about saying the wrong thing or expecting anything from him ! (Imagine never getting flowers in 5 years 🙃) Okay okay I'm exaggerating but that sums up why I didn't feel like continuing that relationship. (Hence why I started selfshipping in secret just so I could feel some love, pathetic I know)

I can't describe what more aokabu in masters means to me, but I'll try. it's so funny that every time there's a larry-centric event, kabu shows up to hang out with him. this latest one at the hot springs is especially good with flannery present, representing hoenn's hotspot (:3c) and summoning kabu to bask in homeland nostalgia. they didn't have to do that, but I'm happy they did.

I've said it before but dropping a crackship for kabu in june 2024 was perfect timing from the universe for me. literally a year later we got the alola fair costume event with larry's vacation getup and a kabu cameo. now, 11 months after that, they're going on a hot springs date. I think dena is doing this on purpose.

as we head into silverstreak year 3 I swear I'll celebrate them all summer long. I've slowly been climbing out of my depressive funk and making stuff again here and there. I just... have to give back a fraction of what aokabu gave me. even if it's only for me and my sentimental heart. they saved it, after all.

also my yume/oc ship with kabu played a big part in keeping me going, but you're not here for that are you (ok a couple people are :)

The Kabu and Larry date event Pasio Hot Spring Fever event begins today in Masters, along with Larry's new Special Costume banner! We also got some new art by Yomohiro for the event!

In other news, Champions maintenance has finished, with bug fixes for Darkest Lariat and Sacred Sword, and some visual issues.

M-2 Ranked starts today, and runs until Jun17.

There's some new Battle Pass rewards. Free rewards are: Gengar and the Gengarite, a Gengar Trainer Icon, 48 Fast Coupons, 4 Regular and Training Tickets, and 10,000 VP.

Premium Battle Pass rewards: Mega Kangaskhan and the Kangaskhanite, a Mega Kangaskhan icon, the Paxton outfit from ZA, and extra Training Tickets.

There's a new online competition rewarding a Gallade. Registration begins May22-Jun1, and the competition itself will be held May29-Jun1. It will be singles.

GameBraves also posted an interview with Masaaki Hoshino, detailing some upcoming plans for the games, such as adding new arenas and the ability for players to hold their own tournaments, and hinting they'll add unevolved Pokemon in the future!
