It would be heaven on earth, Corbeau thought, to witness Philippe’s smile bloom with all the sincerity and devotion of a baby’s breath, on this lovely day. Once they secured a comfortable spot to lay their checkered mat down, their worries would be carried away by the same, cool breeze that whisked the flower petals into a mid-air waltz, and spring would soon realize that its brilliance was no match against Philippe, when the admiration found in his boyfriend’s heart blossomed forever, regardless of the season.

Alas, even someone as cautious and paranoid as Corbeau could miss to include accidents into his game plan, when his head was stuck high in the fluffy, white clouds that dotted the blue skies; enamored by a distant future that his work-weary soul yearned for, when he should be focusing on what was in front of him.

Getting bitten by an Ekans was certainly not in Corbeau’s to-do list.

Or: who would have thought that getting bitten by an Ekans would be the fastest way to test your partner's committment? Well, certainly not Corbeau.

In the face of such a formidable force, Iscan still saw Palina past the panic that began to cloud his judgement—an old memory superimposed onto reality, painting a light of hope in the oppressing darkness, when her smile bloomed the second her slim arms welcomed her new lord with a long, overdue hug. Grief had been swept away like dried petals in winter, making space for his partner to blossom in spring, transforming her into an enchanting flower that only made Iscan fall in love all over again, on that day.

He has to get this right for her.

Or: there was only one person left in Palina's life that Iscan needed to ask for permission to marry her, and that just so happened to be the new Lord of the Isles, Arcanine. He took this leap of faith alone to prove that he has the courage to protect Palina as her husband, and to ask Lord Arcanine for help on a personal request.

Corbeau's counters never stood a chance, whenever they were aimed at his lover. “You know that any sane man wouldn't say no to a break from work and the bed waiting for them at home, right?”

If he could pick his resting place, this would be it, for Corbeau: to be enveloped in the arms of a partner who imbued every act with a devotion to love, lulled into his next life by each thud of a heart that pumped nothing but unwavering affection.

“Oh, please. You talk like I still have a shred of it; I've lost all rational thought the second I fell in love with the little upstart that was supposed to be my street rival,” Philippe met him in the middle, and this was the routine folded into their romance, the way his boyfriend reassured Corbeau with enough sass that would make their grunts blanch, if they caught wind of it.

Or: a long, restless night loomed for Corbeau, when he was stuck in the Rust Syndicate office to investigate the Hyperspace portals. Philippe's genius plan to help the boss relax finally found its time to shine.
