So, in Machida-san’s very generous acceptance speech for his award (best supporting actor) he spent about half his words on praising Akaso-san. Among other things, he said

Akaso-kun is overflowing with endless warm charm. I can’t wait for the day when I can act with him again.

And the other day, Akaso-san said:

As I continue working as an actor, there might be another opportunity for me to work with Machida-kun.

I can’t help but wonder if they’re speaking in general here, or if they’re thinking of something specific. Like they KNOW they will act together again. Soon.

Actually, I’d be happy with whatever that might be, season two of CM or not. It would be kind of cool seeing them as something else too. From the visual above (from Anan mag), I can see them as partners in a police drama! You know, the kind of partners who have to trust each other completely, life or death. Who spend most of their waking hours together, as comrades-in-arms. And then we could ship them and write lots of fanfiction about how them falling in love. It won’t happen on the screen, but it’ll happen in our minds. Fanfiction is good like that.

Listen, I am not saying you need to ship Hinako with any of the men she is given in the game. She makes it very clear she doesn't feel like women are completed by marrying a man, which is still very true. Even at the end when she is talking to the fox part of her who wants to propose to Kotoyuki, her other side just wants to find something to be passionate about.

But people balking at the fact that people ship Kotoyuki and her, saying they're romanticizing abuse??? Hinako spends 2 endings talking about how Kotoyuki is someone she grew to genuinely like because of his kindness (something not forced upon him by a god), so she warmed up to the idea of marrying him despite her fears of turning out like her mother and father.

Marriage was not the enemy of Hinako. Her trauma and fear of change clouded her from seeing the subject with nuance. Kotoyuki and her confrontations with the other characters throughout the true ending made her deeply reflect on the concept of marriage. He helped her envision a future with a partner that could be bright, could be with a man who would actually make HER happy. Not just used as a mute doll to serve a man.

Only Hinako can decide if she wants marriage to be a part of her life, and all the struggles and complexities that come with it. And Kotoyuki respects that, unsure of the idea himself by the end as well.

Hinako starts off thinking marriage should be avoided at all costs, then ends with her being more open to it. Kotoyuki starts off thinking marriage was something to desperately pursue, then ends with him putting it aside to focus on his own desires for once.

Idk I feel like seeing this ship as only toxic and abusive is a direct misreading of their characters, which takes away from the complexities of the narrative

You hit the nail on the head with this one!

It's so frustrating to see people constantly villainize Kotoyuki and his relationship with Hinako. It's just as maddening when they don't understand Hinako's character and only see the surface level of her struggles. They take everything at face value and don't think or understand the deeper meaning of their situation and motivations. Like both Hinako and Kotoyuki are very complex characters just as every character is in this game. No character is written as one-dimensional, so it's extremely unfair for them to be treated as such.

I will never forgive Disney or Lucasfilm for never giving us some Skywalker twins searching for their real mother content. It's always about Anakin, and I get it; he's super important, but I find it highly unlikely that Luke wouldn't want to know who his mother is.

I'm pretty sure in canon, Leia once said she had no desire at all to know who her birth parents were because, to her, the Organas were her family—and I can totally see that opinion of hers skyrocketing after Luke tells her their father was VADER of all people and she wouldn't want to have anything to do with her biological family (bar Luke, ofc). But that could also develop Leia's character and how she perceives Vader/Anakin.

Imagine this: she RELUCTANTLY follows Luke as he journeys to find some information about their birth mother, and it turns out they're the kids of Padmé "The Effing Queen and Senator of Naboo" Amidala!!! The ultimate defender of democracy. The woman Leia idolized since being a teenager!

Imagine how shocked she would be to know that a woman like Padmé would fall in love with Vader. But as they dug deeper into the story, the twins come into contact with who Anakin was before the mask and how much Padmé meant to him, and vice versa. It's a story with so much potential! They could even incorporate that joke Mark Hamill loves telling at conventions—of him on the set of Return of the Jedi asking George if Luke and Leia being siblings meant Luke was a prince, and Carrie immediately shouting, "NO!" Imagine Luke attempting a joke: "Hey, you're a princess, and our mother was a queen. Guess that makes me a prince, huh?" And Leia shooting him down with something like, "In your dreams, farmboy!" or a simple "Never!"

As you may have noticed, I heavily edited Hyo Seop's parts to sync up with Arden and Eun-woo. I meant no harm by doing so. I just wanted to create a fun video featuring the three of them singing together.

I also have another video where I wanted to highlight only Hyo Seop and Arden singing, as they are the speaking voice actors for Jinu and Rumi, respectively. It's not that different from this video, just shorter, and the focus is mostly on them. Feel free (heh) to check it out, if ever!

Free - Ahn Hyo Seop & Arden Cho mashup

This is for the girlies, gays, or theys on Twitter who want Hyo Seop and Arden to recreate scenes from the movie. This is the closest alternative I got.

I honestly felt bad for leaving Cha Eun-woo out, so I made another video where I don't cut his part out and had Hyo Seop sync with him as well.

However, I really wanted to highlight Jinu and Rumi's VAs singing in this video, so that's why this video is solely about them. Hyo Seop didn't sing Jinu's verse so we only have him and Arden singing together the whole time. Obviously, I edited a lot for them to sync, especially Hyo Seop's parts. I don't mean any harm by doing that nor by cutting Cha Eun-woo. This is solely for fun and I hope it's fun for others too.
