The journey to Cyrodiil had been long and tiring, but the company more than made up for it. Freyja had been summoned by the Elder Council to make the journey at her earliest convenience, to be crowned and anointed the first Dragonborn emperor since Tiber Septim. She travelled from Winterberry Chateau with a large company consisting of her husband, Miraak, and then her close friends, Kaidan, Lucien Flavius, Inigo, Auri, Serana, and her dog, Meeko. Kyra and Alessia tagged along, but through the trip, Alessia was out of it. She had shut down verbally and mentally, save for quick sounds she made in response to questions or comments. The Mad God had for once gone silent, and it put everyone on edge, especially Kyra, who had a great fondness for the immortal. When they all crossed the border from the Jerall Mountains and landed in Cyrodiil, the silence grew worse. She looked almost fearful when the company made a stop at Cloud Ruler Temple to make use of the large fortress for the night. She refused to step into the fort, opting to sleep outside even though the temperature was less than comfortable. Everyone speculated what was wrong, considering her time in Cyrodiil and the madness that followed after the death of Martin Septim, her best friend, in front of her face at the Temple of the One, but she would never confirm or deny it.
When they reached Cheydinhal and the Imperial City loomed in the distance, Alessia would look at it with an indescribable sadness and longing, as well as fear. Freyja observed the blood around Alessia’s nails and the way she would pick at her skin when she wasn’t busy with her hands. And despite Kyra’s best efforts in holding her hands, she still did it. It wasn’t until one night at Fort Scinia that Alessia broke her silence. Freyja, Miraak, Serana, and Kyra were all still awake, sitting around the campfire Miraak had made, talking and indulging in Serana’s sudden childlike curiosity when Alessia’s voice, now so quiet and hoarse, broke through the silence.
“His eyes were blue…I think.” It was so sudden, but the look of alertness on Miraak’s face when Freyja and Kyra noticed he looked at Alessia was enough to catch everyone’s attention. She was sat back on one hand, her arm draped across her knee as she stared downwards at the wildly growing grass beneath them. She tried to remember his face- his smile, his eyes, anything. Yet, all she saw when she closed her eyes was the dragon-god, gold and glorious, looking to her one last time with a smile before crying to the sky and turning to stone forever.
“Martin…” The name sounded like a whisper on the Princes’ lips. A shadow of a memory seemed to flash across his face. “I can’t even remember what he looked like anymore…” The fact that she remembered must be the remaining part of the Hero of Kvatch inside her, because why would Sheogorath care for a selfless and sane ruler?
“When thou enterest into Oblivion, Oblivion entereth into thee…” She said as she raised her arm from her knee and clenched her hand into a fist, pressing it to her heart. Hollow. Empty. Numb. That’s all she felt ever since she saw the dragon-god look at her under that blazing sky in that destroyed temple. She had been slowly losing herself with every gate she walked into, and the sacrifice of her best friend was the last drop. She had thought that the butchered and bloodied body of Lucien Lachance was that last drop, but no, it never could be. Lucien was like a brother, a twisted and murderous brother, someone like her, but Martin was something pure and good, and Akatosh had taken him and with that her heart as well.
“To see the one you love disappear in sacrifice is enough descend into madness on its own.” Freyja looked to Kyra, seeing the way the Dunmer gazed saddeningly to her Imperial lover as Alessia drowned in her sorrows. Kyra crawled over to Alessia, sitting beside her, and instantly catching her as she leaned to the side against her. Kyra placed a hand on the side of her head, brushing a stray lock of the golden-blonde hair behind her ear.
“You have become the Hero of Kvatch again, my heart, not some chaotic god.” Kyra’s voice was soft and gentle to the grief-strucken Alessia, who gripped Kyra by the shoulder. Alessia sniffled, a stray tear running down her cheek as she rose her head to look at Freyja from across the fire, her voice thick with cries and sobs.
“You are the best Septim that’s ever ruled. Well, except for that Martin fellow.” Those were the words she had said to Pelagius in that plane of Oblivion, when she were the Mad God and had encountered Freyja. In Freyja, Alessia saw Martin in a way. Beneath the armor, beneath the Thu’um and the prowess in battle, she was a gentle soul with compassion and an almost nervous demeanor similar to Martin. She had frequently seen the Dragonborn in a fit of nerves, pulling on a loose thread of her fine rainment, the way she spun her ring on her finger, twirled a strand of her platinum hair on her finger. Just like Martin would do when no one looked. Except her. When it was just her, Martin wasn’t the Emperor, not the last son of Uriel Septim, but just Martin, the priest she had met outside of Kvatch after coming out of the gate and meeting him in the chapel.
Freyja turned her head, looking at Miraak as he reached out and grasped her hand, giving her a nod as he squeezed her hand. A sign. She sat straight, clearing her throat as her other hand moved downwards. Her lower stomach. She gave Alessia a sad smile before she spoke.
“If it is a boy, he shall be named ‘Martin’.” Kyra and Alessia turned their attention to Freyja, Serana clapping quietly with a wide smile on her face.
“You’re pregnant?! Why are we travelling?! You should be in bed, Freyja! You’re supposed to be in bed at this stage, right?” Kyra rapidly fired her questions.
There's a severe lack of coffin sex in the AO3 tags when it comes to the vampire fandoms. I know Hellsing should have it, I think I've read a fic with coffin sex, but it is rare. Hell, Castlevania is also surprisingly lacking. It's surprising. Why the fuck are the vampire fandoms less horny when it comes to coffins, while the fucking Sims and SVSS seem to have it downpat with only one having it with vampires.
