Please don’t read Star Wars: Before the Awakening
Because then you’ll be thinking about FN-2187 and how he’s so filled with compassion and empathy and care for others and how he’d always go back for his Stormtrooper comrade, Slip, in simulations because Slip always has trouble keeping up and how FN-2187 was reprimanded for it and asked why he does it and his answer is always immediately, “He’s one of us.”
But he’s told never to help or assist again and he tries to obey orders but not helping literally makes him “sick, like there was something deep in his stomach that didn’t agree with him.” And no one else seems to have a problem with being cold, callous and unfeeling toward others, but FN-2187 does and it makes him feel alone. Like there’s something wrong with him. And his suspicions of not belonging, of not being right, are confirmed when another Stormtrooper laughs at FN-2187′s lack of a nickname: “No nickname. You’re one of those…An outsider…You’re on the outside, and you’ll always be looking in and wondering why you don’t belong.” And everyone laughs, even the members of his own squad. Even Slip.
He’s supposed to be one of them, but he’s not.
And then you’ll be thinking about how now he has a new team: Poe and Rey. Poe, the one who gave him a nickname. Rey, the one who came back for him.
And you’ll just need to read all about how Finn wakes up in the medbay panicked because the last he saw of Rey was her unconscious in the snow. But Poe is there and the first thing he says is, “She’s okay. Rey’s okay.” And how Poe shows Finn around the Resistance base and Finn gets a title and assignments and makes more friends. And Poe teaches Finn how to fly, and Finn teaches Poe hand-to-hand combat maneuvers. And how when Rey finally comes back she literally throws herself into Finn’s arm and he lifts her off the ground in a hug spin and Rey tearfully whispers into his ear, “I came back. For you.”
And one day they’re all sitting around a table at meal time, Rey scarfing down huge portions and eating food off Finn’s plate, while Poe tells tales of his mother’s days as a pilot fighting alongside General Organa, with other members of the Resistance gathered around listening with rapt attention. And Finn looks around at this incredible team, battle-scarred but not battle-hardened, still here, still fighting, because they have each other. They save each other. And Finn realizes that this is what it feels like to belong. He is no longer alone. No longer on the outside.
He’s one of them.

They didn't know I speak Chinese too
So I’m a white Caucasian female, but I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese and English. Now, looking at me, you wouldn’t know I can speak Mandarin, which is why I find it absolutely hysterical to mess with people when they come through my line speaking Chinese, and I understand every word their saying. My co workers find it especially hysterical.
Okay, so the other day this Chinese couple came through my line, and I asked them (in english) all of the questions about the bags and if they had their rewards cards, all of that fun stuff.
Anyway, I started ringing up their stuff, and the wife said to her husband “Tell her not to bruise the bananas” in Chinese, and i didn’t say anything. The wife said “tell the stupid girl to go faster” in mandarin. I smiled at her and pretended like I had no idea what she was saying.
She kept commenting on how my hair was like a boys (I have short hair, its honestly not even that short) and how her grandfather would have gone faster than I was going, all of this in chinese.
and then, she said “make sure she doesn’t forget the water” in chinese, and I replied in English, “I won’t forget the water”
And i watched with enjoyment as a look of sheer terror spread across her face, as she realized I understood everything she had said before. She just stood there with her mouth open and her husband said (in chinese) “This is why you shouldn’t trash talk employees while their standing right in front of you” And i replied (in english) “He’s right”
They paid, the husband apologized, and left. After they walked out the door my manager and co worker and I were laughing so hard, even though being a cashier sucks, it sometimes makes my day a little brighter when something like that happens.

Man eating rice, China, 1901-1904
this is an extremely important picture
Ive never seen someone from 1904 having fun omg
This is because old photographs took FOREVER to take. Like, several minutes, often. People didn’t usually smile because you had to smile for a good five to ten minutes.
So… if this is real (I’m suspicious of a photoshop…) then this guy held this smile for a good five minutes.
Actually by 1904 cameras didn’t have quite such a long exposure time! Film was introduced in 1884, the first Kodak camera was marketed in 1888 and the first mass market camera, the Kodak Brownie, was introduced in 1901.
I actually did some digging and the photo is actually hosted at the American Museum of National History’s website, so it looks like it’s legit.
That is awesome. This is awesome. This man is so excited by both his fancy new Kodak AND his rice. Gods and ancestors bless.

I am 230% sure the reason why Odin is wearing only one glove is because with the eye patch he can’t see it and has no idea he is still wearing it
