If it's ok to ask how many apps did you get?
We received a lot of apps from amazing artists and writers. Honestly, I was amazed and humbled by the response we received for this project. We wanted to accept a lot more artists and writers, but we had to accept on the basis of people who had matching fandoms so that way the artists and writers could tag team.
We’re going to do things a little different for the next issue so we can accept more people! We really want to hear and see as many creative visions as possible.
We’ll post more information regarding this change as well as the new application process after the release of the first issue! Please be sure to check it out!

Thank you everyone for your patience these last few days. Apologies to anyone that received bad news- based on the number of applications and in the interest of balancing artists and writers, we decided to have a very small team kick off the zine. Out of 31 applications, we ended up accepting nine people. Hopefully, as interest grows we will be able to accept more and more of you. Keeping this as a PDF gives us a lot of flexibility in that respect! Thanks again for your continued support. We should have an official contributor list out within the next few weeks.

There were a lot of really great applications and we’re grateful that you all took the time to share your work with us. If you weren't accepted for this issue but are still interested in the zine, we highly encourage you to apply for subsequent issues! Many hard decisions were made to balance out the zine and there were quite a few of you that we'd love to work with in the future.

Melete Zine - Artist and Writer Applications Open!
Melete is one of the original Muses in Greek Mythology.
She is the Muse of thought and meditation.
The Melete Zine will draw upon her for inspiration.
The Melete Zine is intended to be a collaboration between artists and literary scholars/critics to create a zine that is both a work of art and a meditation on different fandoms. Every issue (we hope to make a few) will draw upon a new theme. It will be up to the artists and essayists to create a work inspired by that theme.
Writers/Essayists will be given the freedom to write about any show/manga/comic/game/movie/etc. they want so long as their essay fits the theme of the zine. The theme for this issue is “New Beginnings”.
Artists will either be paired up with a writer who is writing about the same fandom OR they will be paired with someone who is writing something that has a similar tone to their work.
