how it feels watching Star Trek for the first time.
why do you take issue with radical feminism? keeping in mind that it’s distinct from terfism i mean
Patriarchal Misogyny: Men and Women are fundamentally different for reasons beyond one's control, and given this, each end of this strict binary are and should remain beholden to different and distinct presentations and expectations. The two are and should remain physically and socially distinct and defined despite natural expressions which indicate this is an artificial standard imposed by society. Obviously men are just naturally suited to being good leaders and women are naturally suited to be subservient caregivers. At the end of the day, it is every man's responsibility to be a good and fair caretaker to women. This is a traditional position passed down by my noble ancestors and is as such an honorable and chivalrous stance.
Progressive Feminism: Men and Women are two ends of a human spectrum but are not fundamentally different as people. We share the same potential, the same depth, the same capacity for good and evil and kindness and caring and cruelty, with broad enough overlap in physical structure and ability that dividing the two into a strict and disparate binary in all physical arenas makes very little sense. Obviously men and women are raised with seperate roles in our patriarchal society, and men at large are statistically more likely to be aggressive and women are statistically more likely to be the victim of violent and sexual crimes, but this does not reflect a strict rule that can be applied to each individual one encounters nor an immutable fact of character. At the end of the day, each individual has the capacity and responsibility to be a good and fair person. This is a movement which was developed by an oppressed class to obtain normal and unexceptional human rights already afforded to half of our existing society and is therefore a reasonable stance.
Radical Feminism: Men and Women are fundamentally different for reasons beyond one's control, and given this, each end of this strict binary are programmed to think and perform to different and distinct presentations and expectations. The two are physically and socially distinct and defined despite natural expressions which indicate this is an artificial standard imposed by society. Obviously men are wholesale trained and socialized from birth to oppress and prey on women, so it is safe to assume that and transgression is either malicious or an inescapable truth of man's nature. At the end of the day, men as a whole area statistically more likely than women to be physically or sexually violent, and so each individual man is individually more violent or sexually aggressive than any given woman. The definition for "man" and "woman" in this case includes Trans Men and is therefore a ~progressive~ stance.
Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminism: Men and Women are fundamentally different for reasons beyond one's control, and given this, each end of this strict binary are programmed to think and perform to different and distinct presentations and expectations. The two are physically and socially distinct and defined despite natural expressions which indicate this is an artificial standard imposed by society. Obviously men are wholesale trained and socialized from birth to oppress and prey on women, so it is safe to assume that any transgression is either malicious or an inescapable truth of man's nature. At the end of the day, men as a whole area statistically more likely than women to be physically or sexually violent, and so each individual man is individually more violent or sexually aggressive than any given woman. The definition of "men" and "women" in this case is determined based on whether or not the individual in question ticks a certain number of boxes on the wild and varied list of primary and secondary physical expressions of human sexual dimorphism, and if you tick too many "man" boxes we add a +12 modifier to your "likelihood of being a sexual predator in disguise" stat. I am a hero of womynkind
Locking in should make mechanical parts unfold from some unseen space behind my head and form a battle mask over my face with a series of satisfying clicks and whirs that culminate in the visor lighting up with a distinctive gleam sound. Or at least make my eyes change color.
woke up this morning, rolled over, and very confidently tried to blow out my alarm clock like a candle. absolutely no precedent for that.
In the year 1450 a priest rolls over and slams his hand into his candle, burning him and sending wax flying all over the place
honestly as much as i can think about it there really is no other explanation for sauron's actions on numenor other than an extremely elaborate suicide-by-cop plot that didn't work as intended
Not only are all his actions entirely counterintuitive to any previously perceived goal, his choices to willingly and unnecessarily put himself in a situation (whatever the reader may imagine that situation to fully entail) which is innately humiliating and self-destructive, and generally against his nature already set him up as a deeply unwell individual.
He clearly hates the ocean, hates Valinor, and although he considers them a preferrable people to the elves, holds nothing but disdain and disgust for the men of Numenor.
If his goal was simply to conquer Numenor and thus neutralize what threatened his dominion of Middle Earth, 50 years of allowing his kingdom on Middle Earth to disintegrate while playing mistress to a king he could easily kill or replace and building up a religion based on Melkor he fully knew held no truth is utterly batshit insane.
If his idea was to prove his loyalty to Melkor, or genuinely attempt to use Numenoreans to break the door of night and release Melkor, why intentionally lead them astray with misinformation that will have them flounder, and continuously undermine his own possible force and trustworthiness by putting thousands to meaningless human sacrifice? Additionally, Sauron is not stupid enough to believe Valinor could ever be conquered by mortals. That said, he didn't exactly have any elves at his disposal post the Celebrimbor debacle, but he would very well know a plan like that was doomed from the start.
If his intention was purely to ruin a good thing out of spite, boredom, and pride, wanting it entirely destroyed from the beginning, he would have constructed proper routes that would have given him an easy way to flee Numenor, preserving his fair form and dignity, (and of course the ring) and demonstrate his point. And even if he had not forseen another rising of the sea (which he probably would, considering how impactful the first one was to him), there would be some indication of a plan for an empty or near-empty island-- he would likely have held back a portion of the King's Men or even a single empty boat to have literally any indication of intent to survive beyond its failure.
However, I don't think that he really wanted any of those things. He might not even have known fully what he did want, as I'll make a claim to say after the creation of the ring he shows barely any that vain sense of self which he prides himself on in the first age. Playing out this charade on Numenor, however, successfully serves one aim-- rashly provoking the attention of all the Valar and Iluvatar himself, who he knows even with the ring he stands not a sliver of a chance against, and who will likely not hesitate if they can to capture him, destroy him, or throw him out past the Door of Night like they did his predecessor.
He has refused trial once before, because even if according to Tolkien he might have felt some repentance, the idea of intentional surrender has been to him for ten millennia the most repugnant of sins.
This is a charade presenting himself as fighting with all his strength, while all actions examined demonstrate a profound draw towards grievous and catastrophic personal harm, bringing down as much of the world the Valar and Ilivatar love as possible with him. If this Numenor thing tears the immortal world into enough chaos, the Valar would surely not deign to offer him trial, and would as per Melkor skip straight to sentencing, to obliteration, something which Sauron would and could not, after the creation of the ring, possibly do for himself.
And this succeeds. Entirely so. As the attack of the Numenoreans on Valinor clearly begins to lead all forces to mass slaughter and the seas rise, Sauron does not flee when the jig is up, but stands atop Melkor's temple, continuing to theatrically throw himself upon the Valar, painting a massive target on his own head. However, it does not work as he was hoping it might. Quite possibly because of the Ring, Iluvatar and the Valar won't, or cannot send him beyond the Door of Night, where he might be with Melkor or even simply be free of a campaign of terror far too long underway to take back. They painfully and humiliatingly refuse to sever his spirit from Arda, and destroy everything he holds within the circles of the world, which he remains still powerless to leave.
It's, if interpreting Iluvatar as a humanoid-enough thinking being, an incredibly idiotic move-- forever removing the last remnant of options for Sauron to decide to quit. He cannot impeccably change forms and live unhunted as a beast or new being. He cannot discorporate and leave the circles of Arda on his own. He has no purpose other than to serve Melkor, and in his absence, becomes Melkor, a wound on the earth continuously bleeding black oil onto everything he touches. And in at least a halfhearted attempt to halt the envelopment of the old world, he instead made it drastically worse.
Well yeah, so. He is a creature of pride and war-manners believing that surrender comes only when you have demonstrated the full extent of your ability-- that choosing surrender was worse than a loss. So he must manufacture one, and instead only dooms himself far more deeply.
good morning

The more I learn about human language, the more I believe that the act of declaring something a "linguistic universal" automatically causes reality to alter itself so that a language exists and has always existed that violates that universal.
And another thing! I hate that whole Da Vinci Code thing where people think the equalateral triangle is used as a feminine symbol because it looks like an abstract vagina. It doesn't!!! It does look very much a lot like a pubic mound, but that's not what you said. You said "vagina." You invoked trilateral pussy with sharp corners.
