Samira Mohan has accomplished what she aimed for. She is a fifth year emergency medicine resident, newly appointed Chief Resident. She is not that thirteen year old girl sitting at her father’s funeral, staring at a framed photo of him and wondering why his smile looks so wrong. She is not the college freshman running out of a lecture hall to have a panic attack in the bathroom while something dark and hollow claws its way out of her throat. She is on the roof of the hospital, the wind whipping around her, the city stretched out below her. She is on the edge of a knife, air like ice in her lungs, her feet frozen in place and all she can do is grip the railing in front of her and hold on. -- The feelings Samira Mohan has tried to bury all come rushing to the surface after she treats a patient who reminds her of one of the worst days of her life. When Jack Abbot tries to help, instinct tells her to push him away. She's made it this far on her own, and the idea of changing that is terrifying.

Welcome to the Kingdon Microfic challenge!

what is this?

kingdonmicrofic is a fun writing challenge where we provide a set of daily prompts every month. We are defining microfic as under 500 words. As an optional challenge we will generate a random word count between 100-500 words for each prompt, and you can try to hit that exact word count.

As our url says, this challenge is centered around the Mel King/Frank Langdon relationship. You are welcome to write about either of them, alone or together.

We will be reblogging submissions which may be nsfw, so read at your own risk. When writing we ask that you tag accordingly and use warnings if necessary.

how do I participate?

Just post a microfic on your blog and tag us so we can reblog you. This is also a great challenge if you haven’t written much and you want an easy way to dip your toes in.

should work as a stand alone story

should be kingdon-centric in some way

please include any content warnings (at the top) so we can tag them
