Genuinely so mad that cuddling is seen as a strictly romantic thing that's so stupid cuddling is awesome and two consenting platonic pals should be allowed to cuddle as much as they want

Peter Joseph on structural violence, from this video.
Brilliant
Spot on. Like Coretta Scott King said, I must remind you that starving a child is violence. Neglecting school children is violence. Punishing a mother and her family is violence. Discrimination against a working man is violence. Ghetto housing is violence. Ignoring medical need is violence. Contempt for poverty is violence.
Cis people, I'm going to let you in on a little something:
Trans people misgender and deadname each other sometimes. It happens. It will happen to you, no matter how hard you try. Brains are annoying and non-compliant sacks of saline and meat.
I have been known to stumble and misgender myself. When it happens, it usually happens when I'm talking to my dogs and thus speaking about myself in the third person.
It's especially not unusual in the first year someone is out, and especially if you have known someone for a long time by another name/pronouns. I don't ever misgender MK anymore, bc she's been out to me for... oh. Wow. Like 6 years. Hunh. Wow, that's a... thing.
Anyway, Emet just came out within the last year. Everyone in the house is in the "stumble about once a month" stage right now. Eventually, we'll forget that they ever had another name, really, and it will seem natural, just the same way my pre-marriage surname feels alien and confusing.
It will, because that's how brains work.
I'm sure you've heard this already, but when you stumble -- and you will -- don't make a big deal of it. Correct and go on.
"Spider just called, and she-- he said to bring the puppy because they want to see it."
That's it. You can go the "she-- sorry, he" route if you like. You can put that little "correction emphasis" on the word that allistics do, or raise a forefinger as if you are a teacher correcting yourself. You may acknowledge your error in a way that others are aware you know you're correcting a mistake, but that is as big of a fuss as it is polite and permissible to make.
Anything else is appallingly rude. Just fix it and move on.
Likewise, here's a script to think about if someone tells you a new name or pronouns:
"Thank you for trusting me with this. I love/care for/like/appreciate you and I'm glad this makes you happy." (Acknowledge that you have been given a gift of trust and confidence.) "Would you like me to use these pronouns and this name all the time, or just in certain settings?" (This is polite and protects someone who may not be 100% out.) "I apologize in advance if I slip up" (you probably will but it's polite and reassuring to say "if" and this also indicates you are intending to not be a transphobic jerk) "and I promise just to correct myself if I do."
Honestly, though, one instance of someone correcting another person when they slip up, for me, makes up for 100 stumbles. Not that she ever fudges my name up but seeing @mistresskabooms like bodily jerk toward the speakerphone as if she wanted to lunge at her grandfather while yelling "MOM'S NAME IS SPIDER, PAPA PERRY!" is a memory I treasure, and Emet politely and continually correcting hospital staff about my pronouns helps me get through when I don't have the energy to correct or react.
Someone else's gender isn't about you; as long as you don't make their gender about you, you'll be fine.
This post brought to you by hours of patiently talking cis parents of trans kids through their various issues.

I always think I have an idea of what my voice sounds like until I hear a recording of it and I’m always like. huh. well I don’t know what the fuck That was but there’s no way that came out of my body
Actually this is because when you talk and hear yourself talk, it's different than hearing a recording because of the way the sound travels through your ears.
The bones reverberate in a different way when you listen to a recording than if you're hearing yourself talk from your own vocal cords.
I don't think we can 'lmao' our way out of this one, girls.
#but we can try lmao
Tic-Tac-Toe
I want to preface this by saying this is not victim blaming. This not calling people online lazy or grifting or whatever.
But an underlooked proponent on why some people are nearing homeless and crowdfunding heavily rn is bc society has failed you by making it as inconvenient as possible to learn about social systems and programs that already exist to help your situation as well as not having enough programs and aid.
Lemme give some examples. I have been unemployed for 10 months. My mom told me about a paying job training program a month ago after I already decided to mive in with her to find work, because nothing was coming up in my own city. My best friend didn’t know about affordable housing assistance in my state until she talked to my dad about it on a chance encounter. Some people on here have to see posts about much cheaper alternatives to their current prescriptions or medical plans because its not in the interest of their doctors paychecks to tell them about it. I would have waited to get vaccinated and not have crowdfunded for Uber money if I had known they were going to give free vaccine rides the next month. But I wouldn’t have really known this until I opened the app once that program started, because it is in their interest to keep taking my money until its their desired time for me to reap their “generous” services.
What I’m trying to say is that this is an under discussed aspect of how capitalism fails people. When you are forced to make your life and work and finances so singular and self interested, you are cut off from community and equivalent social services to proper government assistance. You literally don’t know that there is help somewhere out there for you unless you’re told.
I believe a professor I had called this “cultural wisdom” but I haven’t been able to find the social science articles that expanded on this. It’s a practical knowledge of local systems that allows someone to function and thrive in that system. The example she used was having an understanding that banks can hold your money, but the practical aspect of accessing your money (in a convenient and easy manor) was knowing about ATMs and how to use them. But unless you have an account or someone ready to inform you, there’s no dedicated time or milestone where someone learns this.
And that’s just with a machine designed to give you YOUR money, let alone complex social service programs.
I want everyone who crowdfunds for hospital bills to know they probably don’t have to oay them at all. Just find the financial aid office of the hospital. It’s on the website BY LAW. Find the form. Fill it out. Get the bills canceled or lowered! You don’t need crowd money, you need the government’s money that’s already set aside for your medical care.
GO TO, MESSAGE, OR CALL YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY. Libraries are focusing more and more on community resources, support, and outreach. If you genuinely don’t know something or feel uncertain or are in a new situation, a reference librarian will not only help you sort your thoughts through their reference interview but then help you arm yourself with knowledge from reliable and often local sources. It doesn’t even have to be a question to Ask A Librarian. You can simply say “I’m in this situation now. I don’t know what to do next./I’m not confident I know everything I should or want to know.”
More tips:
Bookmark the your city’s webpage and check it any time you might need something that you don’t know how to get. Your city may have a social worker at city hall whose job is specifically to help you with that. Your city probably has a coronavirus task force page with info about free testing and vaccine clinics.
Read your local newspaper; there’s usually a local community paper that is free online or set out in front of businesses that will have about 60% ads, 20% random gossip, 10% news, and 10% local info/programs/opportunities that they have crammed in random corners to fill space. My job used to literally be laying out this kind of paper, and one of the things that I was always doing was checking for “free X day in a ten mile radius” so I wouldn’t have a weird gap on the science page.
Check if your city has an adult education program. My city offers free adult literacy classes that also have a lot of practical financial information.
Check your *county* website for resources. This will usually be a bit farther away but you might find out that you qualify for free bus passes in the whole county, or that there’s a meals on wheels plan that is supported in your area that you can sign up for.
If it is possible for you, enroll for a low-unit class at a community college. Community college are inexpensive, you may qualify for fee waivers, there are flexible class schedules, and if you are taking even just a couple units at a time at a community college you count as an enrolled student at that school - which means that you get access to the health services center (basic nurse visits, diagnostics, prescriptions, and blood tests at little to no cost - I paid nothing when my college health services nurse practitioner x-rayed my chest and diagnosed me with pneumonia then gave me antibiotics when I didn’t have insurance), counseling, students-in-need programs, and a bunch of other random shit. My school is currently giving a $150 bookstore voucher to students who provide proof of covid vaccination - the bookstore sells clothing, food, and electronics in addition to books. That is a LOT of stuff that you can get if you’re able to pay $40-100 a term and can take a class at a time. It’s a lot easier plan for the cost of enrolling in a semester at a community college than it is to plan for an unexpected doctor’s visit or an expense that leaves you low on food.
If you are ALREADY a student at any college or university, go to the student services page on the website and see what they’ve got. A shocking number of students don’t know that their schools offer food assistance and often work with local food pantries.
the best way to support libraries is to use libraries. go get a card, check something out. not a big reader? they got movies. they got games. yes, like botw and fallout and let’s go eevee. they also have cds that yes, we workers know you take home and rip to your computer. we also do it.
if you have a well funded library you might even have access to maker spaces that have 3D printers. or video/audio recording equipment. libraries aren’t these tomb silent homes for books any more. they’re community spaces. they’re full of life and things.
put a middle finger up at jeffrey bezos and support your local library
did i mention we have printing services that are significantly cheaper than anywhere else? printers are evil, let us handle them for you.
Library worker here and can confirm all of these! I’m at a small-to-medium library and we offer ALL of this:
- wifi hotspots that can be checked out for weeks so you can have internet on the go or at home
- CDs, DVDs, blurays including usually multiple copies of new stuff
- A tech lab with a 3d printer, computers for graphic design and game dev focus, VR headsets, and a soundbooth for recording
- Study rooms for solo or groups
- Printers, copiers, faxes, and scanners for just about anything you need taken care of.
- Including a new printer big enough to make giant posters, maps, and business-grade ads.
- A seed library, both floral and food-related.
- A computer lab programed to erase your data and reading history so you’re never at risk while visiting sites like domestic abuse hotlines
- Laptops pre-programmed with Adobe and Office software so you don’t have to buy them
- Monthly author visits
- Ebooks including comics on tons of various platforms
- Classes for those who want to learn how to or better their computer skills
- Art you can check out to hang on your wall for as long as it’s available, including the work of local artists who get paid for their art, especially if it gets popular and we want even more of their stuff.
- Monthly papers ranging from local newspapers to multi-national magazines on just about any topic you can imagine.
- We used to offer food and drink at a loss but You Know ©
- Notaries with extensive legal knowledge including renters rights, getting you in contact with immigration protection, and contacts with pro-bono lawyers.
- A connection with all the libraries in the state, so if we don’t have something, we can have it shipped to you within a matter of days.
- Books translated into multiple languages
- A donation bin for old books/DVDs/VHSes that often turn around and get sold for two or less dollars
- A food donation site for local food banks
- A “suggest a purchase” section on our site where you can support your favorite indie writers/musicians by suggesting their work if we don’t already have it
- We’re growing butterflies this year, and in prior years we hatched chickens! \o/
- An outreach program for the elderly and disabled who hand-deliver almost everything I’ve just mentioned
That’s a huge list and again I have to stress that I work at a library that’s not considered to be very large. And one of the biggest things we get rated by is not how many books we own but by how many people use all of those services I mentioned. They exist for YOU! Use them!
Adding to the list of things you could check out from libraries
*High powered expensive telescope at one near my city
I am usually 1st-3rd in line for most of the popular cookbooks. Why pay $$$ for Phaidon’s latest release when I can simply take it home and scan every recipe that seems interesting to me. I have an entire cookbook collection made up of library scans.
Everything mentioned above is true and so so amazing. Besides physical and digital book and audiobook collections libraries have so many resources, including the staff! We are more than happy to help you find an old or new book, reference and research information, photocopies, scans to email or usb, printing, working on resumes or immigration etc, computer training, the list goes on. Two years ago the library I work at added a bunch of sports equipment like skis for winter and badminton rackets and balls for summer. Then last year just before the pandemic we started adding dozens of board games and puzzles and also started our technology lending library with ipads, laptops, and coding robots. There’s one neighbouring town’s library that has a seed catalogue and another that has sewing machines and canning supplies. Support your local libraries!
Chicago Public Library made printing a certain number of pages free during covid for anyone with a library card. I don’t know how many but I did all my printing in 2020 and 2021 at my local library branch and paid zero. Scanning is free, too, if you need that.
Every cat I have known would immediately climb up through the hole and start stealing everybody’s food.

You imprison miette. You put her under the glass like the cheese. Jail for mother for hundreds of years.
Fat androgyny is so cool. fat people are told and shown time and time again that they're only considered attractive when their perform binary gender- even within body positive spaces- but like. The party encounters 2 guards.
One of the guards gives the "one of us tells the truth, one of us always lies" speech.
Except he's the liar. The other guard doesn't tell the truth either.
Roll a d10
1- second guard also always lies
2- second guard only beatboxes aggressively
3- second guard is mute
4- second guard goes on break during the speech and is now missing
5- second guard is 3 raccoons in a trenchcoat
6- there's actually 3 guards, but there first two won't acknowledge these third for some reason?
7- second guard is really really passive aggressive
8- second guard communicates entirely in James Joyce quotes
9- second guard is actually a ventriloquist dummy controlled by the first lying guard
10- second guard does tell the truth but is pathologically unable to stay on topic sp never actually answers the question asked. But the player DO learn some neat facts about dinosaurs!
