crossover episode no one wanted or asked for
mickie wheeler n billie byers
Did you cry cause I crode
I headcanon genderbent Will as a masc/butch lesbian bc it pairs well with the fact that his canonical traits in the show are identifiably queer and picked up on by certain people around him (who either use it against him or become a safe space like Jonathan)
lesbyler is my safe space rn bc if I think about the actual canon events of the show I just get pissed off
Lesbyler wip if anyone gaf. Yearning babybutch Willow and comphet Michelle. Spreading my butch Willow Byers agenda one tumblr post at a time.

Finn Wolfhard was definitely playing Mike Wheeler under the assumption that he was in love with Will. He has said before that he had his own idea of who Mike was as a character before his ending was written, and part of that was Mike's struggle with internalized homophobia. The Duffers aren't the only ones who dictate how Mike is characterized because it absolutely falls into the hands of the actor and how they choose to play him. Season 4 and volume 1 of season 5 solidify that for me and I will not believe anything otherwise.
It's crazy seeing all of these sources coming out to shut down the conformitygate theory like oh ok so they are capable of clearing up a misconception so as not to lead people on and byler really was just them straight up playing in our faces
A part of my soul dies every time I remember that they had Will Byers unlock powers in the middle of the season, something that had been built up throughout the entire show resulting in this epic-reveal, only for them to do almost nothing with it for the rest of the season. He ceased to be a central character in the plot, his role was diminished in the underwhelming final battle, and his overall arc became stagnant. There was so much potential and so much hype for all the possibilities that came with Will Byers having powers, only for us to be left disappointed with the sheer lack of narrative importance it ended up having. The supernatural arc was so metaphorically intertwined with Will's queerness that by undermining one, it inevitably nuked the potential in the other.
i wasn’t manifesting anything, i was literally analysing the cinematography, the blocking, the colour theory, the narrative beats, all the stuff i was trained to look for during my TV degree. the signs were there because the show put them there.
the duffers absolutely queer baited the audience. everything I learned academically about visual storytelling was pointing toward a byler slow burn, and then they completely abandoned their own setup. we didn’t hallucinate subtext; we didn’t “make up” a ship. they built it, then pretended they didn’t, and the result reeks of homophobia.
they didn’t subvert expectations, they ignored their own narrative groundwork. that’s not clever writing, that’s just bad writing. they tore down a storyline they spent years constructing, and now the overall story makes zero sense.
This one million times over. The reason I was so sure that byler would be endgame is because I trust what I've spent so many years in school and in my free time learning. What they did goes against everything that I've been taught to use when creating and analyzing media.
this is lowkirkenuinely going to send me into psychosis
They really had El say "I do not fit in anywhere" and Will say "I'm not gonna fall in love" and went with it like they were blueprints to stick by instead of a misbelief that is meant to be disproved as part of their character growth and overall message of the story. Like wdym you presented two characters that have this deeply ingrained internal struggle revolving around their identity and decided to PROVE THEM RIGHT LMFAOOO
Byler not being endgame does not mean ur analysis of the show is wrong btw. Seeing deeper and more complex meanings than what the writers apparently could've even thought of has always been a fun part of fandom and all of it is still evidence for byler bc that's part of what shipping is. However, that does not take away from the fact that this was one of the biggest examples of queerbait an audience of a show has been subjected to and people have a right to be upset.
I will forever mourn the 2022 post season 4 byler era
so this was just a lie lmfao
