Free Character Design Chapter
The tech industry wants you to believe you can outsource discomfort and the creative grind that originality demands. Don’t fall for it.
A pretty image isn’t enough. Download the first chapter of my AAA Character Design Course, free:

I still have 2 spots left in my Concept Art Mentorship program. If you’re looking to build your portfolio and get ready to apply to studios, this is for you. You can study alone, or you can come along and ride with us. https://www.menogcreative.com/art-marketplace/p/monthly-concept-art-mentorship
From photoreal concept art to game-ready props. See how 3D, style guides, and material libraries create production-ready designs at speed.
This week, I'm showing concept artists how to deliver game assets 300% faster using 3D. (no,you don't have to use AI; there isn't a need) while also raising the bar for creativity.

When communicating an idea visually, what you don't show is often just as important as what you show in your images. By adding just enough detail to give your audience a general idea of what you mean, you allow them to fill in the gaps and interpret the story in their way. These are a series of images I've done in my free time that remind me of that process. - A lot can be done without doing much. Less is more. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eus254XksaU - I don't have plans for a YouTube channel but I thought to share some content I have been sharing on Instagram as of late, where I answer common questions about my work process and why I approach design the way I do.
Preparing my next case study for my website www.menogcreative.com - to drop soon, full with process breakdown, artist commentary, research and sketches
If you didn't know, now you do: my mentorships, where I train new students to become industry-ready concept artists, are still open. They'll be rolling into a timed discount before I announce my next course.Check them out here.
Testing stylized characters, because I tend to do realism a lot and wanted to change gears a bit.
Tank Boy
"Tank Boy" is a character I designed for a personal project to explore personality in sci-fi. By adding relatable and common motifs, such as tattoos, piercings, and other symbols, to counter-weight the fantastical in science fiction and manage to ground it. As Syd Mead used to teach on his Gnomon DVD's: "When you establish relatable elements, then you can add weird stuff and it won't look off." By balancing originality with reference, you'll get to a sweet spot of not too weird, and not too commercial, and it hits just right. Yellow and red accents were used to frame the character focal point, while more intricate details such as earplugs with rings inside, were referenced from a friend of mine who wore them in the same fashion. I never found anyone else wearing them like such, be it pinterest, google images, or tumblr... no matter how deep you go in the rabbit hole of reference, ultimately, what adds realism is the real people you know. - Find more case studies and insights on Character Design and Concept Art for Games, Film and Entertainment on www.menogcreative.com - see you soon!
Costume Design
Realistic Character Costume Design, made from scratch in Marvelous Designer to add to realism when rendering. MD is a great tool for fashion designers, so it made sense to use when making realistic costume design. - Find more process shots at menogcreative.com

How to Lead Concept Art Teams Effectively?
I have published my new blog post to summarize my experiences leading concept artists and game development teams, here: [ https://www.menogcreative.com/design-blog/how-to-be-lead-teams ] - with the hope of assisting those on their own journey. Feel free to let me know what you think and check the rest of the blog posts as well. -
In part 2 of my personal IP, I drew inspiration from recent road trips I took to nature. Taking field trips has been incredibly rewarding because it allows me to draw not only from actual references that I can analyze with my own eyes, but also enables me to capture the experience rather than just the aesthetic. It's almost esoteric. If you have a project you want to discuss, or simply want to say hello, drop me a line at: - [email protected] - www.menogcreative.com
Work In Progress - As I finish client work, I have a little bit more free time to invest in my own IP's. Work-life balance and chasing it through hiking and outdoor lifestyles as been a great muse for coming up with ideas. The bandwidth of the world is greater than Google images, Pinterest albums, and tv sets. Real reference is in the real world.
