Favorite method of inducing?
Hmm, well I've only ever used tissues. Haven't been able to find the right feather, and pepper just makes me nose burn. The rolled-up tissue method is basically the only thing still guaranteed to get results from me.

Not all relationships have to be romantic. Being close to someone doesn’t mean you are in love with them. Platonic friendships can be just as strong and wonderful as romantic ones.

Here’s a thought bc that Victorian laid-up-in-bed-with-a-terrible-headcold aesthetic slaps
Noble/Lord/Lady etc someone with enough social status to have some type of servant for them is stuck in bed surrounded by pillows wearing one of those billowy shirts that are just way too think for them right now. Face completely flushed with a bit of a fever. Nothing too serious, but they’re so stuffy it’s giving them a headache. Every time they sneeze or blow their nose, it’s disgustingly productive and makes their sinus headache intensify tenfold. After a while they’re just slumped into their bed, mopping up their face with an already overused handkerchief while their butler/maid/whoever is beside them bed holding a few more just in case. And their charge is drawling on and on about how miserable they feel and how they’re so glad they have someone to keep them company while they’re a mess, looking incredibly vulnerable to their servant in that...Victorian romantic subtext kinda way.
Bonus points if their servant is Kinda Into That and the whole time has to remain professional with them while listening to their sick rambling and how desperate for relief they sound every time they sneeze.
And ANOTHER THING
Same concept ,even though this has been said like a million times,
Few days after the servant person catches that cold and the noble person or whatever has to do their best to fulfill their duties as well as learn how to take care of another person and hGHGDJB the Victorian romantic subtext

Portia and Muriel (Mortia? Poriel?) is a ship I didn't know I needed. Can I get Muriel carrying sleeping Portia after an exhausting day at the Palace? Like, she just fell asleep mid-sentence and he didn't want to wake her up so he scooped her up in his arms and carried back to bed.

you know what’s even better than “caught in the rain”? caught in the freezing rain
not only are they soaked, their fingers and ears are numb from the cold, the ice pouring down stings their skin. each breath of cold air hurting their lungs. they’re shivering, they can’t believe they forgot their coat in a time like this. the icy slush puddles splash up on their feet, soaking through their shoes, and now their toes are numb too. huddling in on themself does nothing to add warmth, as the wind is blasting them from every direction, only making their soaked freezing clothes stick closer to their skin. and they still have so much further to walk… they give a shaky sneeze, surely to be followed by many more, even once they get home and warm up
I agree with all of this. But.
Please do not forget how good the recovery part is -
> character goes home, gets inside soaked, making a nicely sized puddle on the floor. Take off their shoes and drag themselves to the bathroom;
> they take their wet and cold clothes off, shivering and shaking, after turning on the water as hot as they can;
> with a weak grip, they maneuver themselves into the bathtub, feeling as the hot water stings their skin, hands and feet burning, so they adjust the temperature a little;
> turning off the water, they get out again, shivering, before wrapping themselves in a towel, and sitting down. They feel weak and tired, but manage to drag themselves to bed and sneak under the covers;
> they wake up with a pounding headache, high fever, sore throat, shivers and a full on body ache.
And all of this is 100 times better if you add a caretaker at any point!
“oh your poor thing” is such a versatile statement and it makes me melt in any situation
feeling for a fever and their forehead is really warm? “oh you poor thing, you have a fever”
they just sneezed and it sounded miserable/tired/wet? “oh you poor thing, need any tissues?”
or, even better, they just got finished with a coughing fit but they have to sneeze a few times “oh you poor thing, you must feel misreable/you must be really sick”
