I don't regret loving you. I regret believing that someone who made me feel so special would never make me feel so disposable.
Mine.
you and your best friend are superheroes who studied under the same master. He’s one of the strongest while you’re one of the weakest. When you ask him how, he confusingly asks you “Didn’t you take of the restrictor bands master gave us?”
haha, you mean our friendship bracelets? right? right

Just remember. There is no such thing as a fake geek girl. There are only fake geek boys. Science fiction was invented by a woman.
Specifically a teenage girl. You know, someone who would be a part of the demographic that some of these boys are violently rejecting.
Isaac Asimov.
yo mary shelley wrote frankenstein in 1818 and isaac asimov was born in 1920 so you kinda get my point
If you want to push it back even further Margaret Cavendish, the duchess of Newcastle (1623-1673) wrote The Blazing World in 1666, about a young woman who discovers a Utopian world that can only be accessed via the North Pole - oft credited as one of the first scifi novels
Women have always been at the forefront of literature, the first novel (what we would consider a novel in modern terms) was written by a woman (Lady Muraskai’s the Tale of Genji in the early 1000s) take your snide “Isaac Asimov” reblogs and stick it
even in terms of male scifi authors, asimov was predated by Jules Verne, HG Wells, George Orwell, you could have even cited Poe or Jonathan Swift has a case but Asimov?
PbbBFFTTBBBTBTTBBTBTTT so desperate to discredit the idea of Mary Shelly as the mother of modern science fiction you didn’t even do a frickin google search For Shame
And if you want to go back even further, the first named, identified author in history was Enheduanna of Akkad, a Sumerian high priestess.
Kinda funny, considering this Isaac Asimov quote on the subject:
Mary Shelley was the first to make use of a new finding of science which she advanced further to a logical extreme, and it is that which makes Frankenstein the first true science fiction story.
Even Isaac Asimov ain’t having none of your shit, not even posthumously.
You know what else was invented by women? Masked vigilantes, the precursor to the modern superhero. Baroness Emma Orczy wrote The Scarlet Pimpernel in 1905. The character would later inspire better known masked vigilantes such as Zorro and Batman.
Got that?
Stick that in your international pipe and smoke it
I have literally been telling people this for over a year.
the first extended prose piece - ie a novel, was not, as many male scholars will shout, Don Quixote (1605) but The Tale of Genji (1008) written by a woman
The first autobiography ever written in English is also attributed to a woman, The Book of Margery Kempe (1430s).
The day may come when I find this post and do not reblog it, but it is not this day.
It is unfortunately this every damn time
Creating an OC who's fucked up because of their parents might seem harmless at first, but unless you're very careful about avoiding certain topics, at some point you're going to have to think about what their parents actually did to make them so fucked up, and now your OC's fucked up parents are also your OCs.
UGH this is literally me like
When you start considering character motivations, all of a sudden it's like "well WHY did my ocs parents hate her enough for this?" which becomes "What happened for them to become like this?" Which becomes instead of writing about your oc, you end up dedicating about a third of the story to their parents fucked up childhood bc you KNOW this trauma about to be generational
It pmo when an artist creates a world with magic, and makes the "darkness magic user" a dark skinned person, and then doesn't make any other type magic user consistent with this lore.
If your magic is darkness, and it is a protective form of magic, you might have excess melanin to protect you from the sun, if you want to go with that. (Also i dont think this makes any sense btw) (see below)
But if darkness is truly protection magic, reflect that in their biology??? Like, you are built to PROTECT you are strong, maybe you gain muscle easily, maybe you have a larger figure? Like a big shield, like Louisa from encanto!
BUT THEN it would be SICK AS FUCK if you had like a "nature magic user", GIVE them chlorophyll!!!!! Make them green! They use nature magic, they connect with plants!! They photosynthesize!!!
If You have like a light magic user, idk they manipulate light, make them so light sensitive???? Maybe they can see shrimp colors!! Maybe they can see in the dark bc they have so many more light receptors?? MAYBE they have extra melanin, so they are able to be more protected form the light/ better suited for being outside!!! (This makes the most sense to me i think) you should be powerful in your element, able to bask in it. No sunburns or bullshit
If you use like air magic, MAYBE YOU have a different body structure? Like very long skinny limbs and less bone density?
Etc etc I can go on for days. Tldr I think dark magic= dark skin is fucking stupid.
it's been a few weeks, since you kidnapped the city's hero. There hasn't been any uproar with the news, the public or their teammates and you're starting to feel a little bad for them.
Writing prompt roulette b/c im going thru major writers block TT

It's has been a month since you kidnapped the city's hero, but no one has said a thing. No news articles, no city-wide shutdown, and it seems as if not even his teammates are looking for him.
"So..." You drift off, as you stand opposite the hero you just sort of tossed into a room. "It's been like a month, dude. What's goin' on?"
The hero, resigned to a seat in the corner of the room just sort of sadly shrugs his shoulders. "I guess they really don't care about me."
"Hah'", you let out a sad laugh, "That's kind of really sad. My grandma Margie put more effort into looking for her geriatric chihuahua than this city did looking for you."
The hero chuckled. "I mean, the chihuahua had a Grandma Margie looking out for her. Must be nice..." He trailed off, dejectedly.
It sort of felt like accompanying a child who got lost in a mall, waiting for their parents to come pick them up at guest services, except you aren't 100% sure the hero's parents would come, so you ask, "Anyone you wanna give a call to? I know I'm the one who kidnapped you, and all, but at this point, you're more of a burden on my grocery money than anything else." Your voice softens, "It might be better if you went home and maybe rethought this hero business? It doesn't seem to be going very well. You know, for you."
"Yeah, maybe. I don't really have anyone to call, though," The hero replied. "I also don't really know where else to go, honestly."
"Ugh, okay. Do you want to stay here, then?", You ask.
"If you'll let me," He perked up. "And, this room is really nice, you know, by normal room standards. Is it okay if I just stayed here?"
"I mean, yeah. I sort of kidnapped you on a whim, so you've just been like staying in the guest room," You say candidly. "It doesn't even have a lock on it, so I don't really know why you haven't tried to escape yet." You never really thought about that part. Definitely an oversight you have to fix next time.
"...I have been letting myself out to go use the restroom," He replies, sheepishly. "I really like your foaming hand soap, by the way."
"Oh, thanks." You walk out of the hero's room. Somehow, in the last five minutes, your unwitting kidnappee has become your new roommate.
---im turning this into some boys love type shit--
The last couple of months had been smooth sailing. The hero changed out his heroic suit for some comfy sweatpants, as he ruminated over his change in careers, while you went about your normal life, albeit with some new additions.
One night, you come home to the kitchen lights on, and something smelling absolutely delectable on the stove. As the bossa nova plays in the background, you see Hero standing in the kitchen. The heat from the stove has left a slight sheen of sweat along his face, which glittered on his skin, reflecting the light. In your eyes, he was glowing.
Maybe because of the smell of all of the herbs from an Italian nonna's kitchen, or the seductive sway of the bossa nova, you feel a tinge in your chest, and a flush to your cheeks. You chalk this one up to hunger.
"Hey," You call out. Hero whips around, saucepan still in hand.
"You're home early!" He says, startled. "This was supposed to be a surprise!" He seems a little more flustered than normal.
As you sit down for dinner, you ask, "What's the occasion?"
"Well..." He shifts in his seat nervously. "I just wanted to make this for you, you know, for our anniversary."
"Anniversary of what?" You are still clueless. "Have I missed something?"
"You know, of us? Like you and me?", He seems as perplexed as you are, now. "Like .. our Relationship?"
"OH." You realize.
Sometime between then and now, what used to be a "just roommates" situation had slowly shifted. You were just dense as hell.
What used to be Hero sleeping in the guest room became Hero sleeping beside you, once, twice, every day, and now, the bed feels empty without him beside you.
What used to be separate rooms, now became one, as your room slowly filled with Hero's posters and books, and you didn't mind too much.
And maybe, it was normal for roommates to want to cuddle and watch some movies, or share a quick peck while out for a picnic. How could you have known?
"Okay, well this has sort of turned into a different kind of dinner then, huh?" Hero says, with a sort of half-smile.
"What do you mean?" Your brain is still processing these past couple months, before Hero begins to talk over your thoughts.
"I like you. Love you, even. __, do you like me?" He asked, earnestly.
"Yeah, yeah I do." You reply. That is the truth.
"Good." He smiles, and you both tuck in. The food is delicious, and the house is cozy, and everything is warm and fuzzy. Wow.
Part of the beginning of my WIP that kinda turned out rly well :3
' On that night, I saw her body hit the pavement, mangled and crushed by the truck. Amongst the chaos, all I could do was focus on her form. Then, I saw it—a strand of white light, like a thread from a spool drawn out of her chest, dissipate into the night sky.
I followed this spool into the sky, staring even after it was long gone, desperately parsing the skies where it had been just moments before. When I looked back at her body, her face and skin were dull and lifeless.
"Ah," I thought to myself, "That was her soul."

Punctuating Dialogue
✧
➸ “This is a sentence.”
➸ “This is a sentence with a dialogue tag at the end,” she said.
➸ “This,” he said, “is a sentence split by a dialogue tag.”
➸ “This is a sentence,” she said. “This is a new sentence. New sentences are capitalized.”
➸ “This is a sentence followed by an action.” He stood. “They are separate sentences because he did not speak by standing.”
➸ She said, “Use a comma to introduce dialogue. The quote is capitalized when the dialogue tag is at the beginning.”
➸ “Use a comma when a dialogue tag follows a quote,” he said.
“Unless there is a question mark?” she asked.
“Or an exclamation point!” he answered. “The dialogue tag still remains uncapitalized because it’s not truly the end of the sentence.”
➸ “Periods and commas should be inside closing quotations.”
➸ “Hey!” she shouted, “Sometimes exclamation points are inside quotations.”
However, if it’s not dialogue exclamation points can also be “outside”!
➸ “Does this apply to question marks too?” he asked.
If it’s not dialogue, can question marks be “outside”? (Yes, they can.)
➸ “This applies to dashes too. Inside quotations dashes typically express—“
“Interruption” — but there are situations dashes may be outside.
➸ “You’ll notice that exclamation marks, question marks, and dashes do not have a comma after them. Ellipses don’t have a comma after them either…” she said.
➸ “My teacher said, ‘Use single quotation marks when quoting within dialogue.’”
➸ “Use paragraph breaks to indicate a new speaker,” he said.
“The readers will know it’s someone else speaking.”
➸ “If it’s the same speaker but different paragraph, keep the closing quotation off.
“This shows it’s the same character continuing to speak.”
