When i started university i had this roommate who sat me down and told me that university is brutal and hard amd you have to pay attention all the time and you won't have time to have a life ect. ect. I worked 👩‍⚕️at this one job in the silly state of Texas where all of the paperwork that could be pre-filled was already pre-filled. It was so cool!

I kept that job for 6 years 😇 wasn't planning on leaving it either because the paperwork for an engineering maintenance job is often the worst part of the job, and they helped make it easier!

Yaaay!

So when I came to Norway, I had ideas 💡

I've interviewed at a few places here and I worked for one place for 2 years 😎

When I was there I tried and tried and tried to tell them that their paperwork was torturous 🥲

But they seemed almost hardwired to not listen!

Why? 🤔 if there's a way for tons of people to save tons of time, wouldn't that be good for the whole company? The whole country?

Well yes it would but you see they COULDN'T listen to me because that would break the law of Jante! 🤯

What's that? It's just a silly little law that a lot of people live by that basically CREATES white supremacists! 😵

Here's what it looks like on paper (in Norwegian FIRST and then in English so that all the context that you need is there) it says:

You see? By coming into a company as a fresh-faced new employee, telling them I could help them improve their paperwork, I was breaking a LOT of rules! 🙀

Rule 1 thinking I'm special because I came from ✨️America✨️

Rule 3 thinking I'm smarter because I know how to fix their paperwork?? Can't be doing that!

Rule 4 thinking I'm better than them because I have some magic paperwork solution when they've been doing this for YEARS, and everyone gets the same paperwork and it works

Rule 5 thinking I know more than them about how efficiently paperwork can be done 📝

Rule 6 thinking I'm important enough for them to listen to!

Rule 7 thinking I'm good at anything!

Rule 9 thinking they should care what I think or feel!

AND Rule 10 being so arrogant as to think I can teach NORWEGIAN people ANYTHING EVER

You see when I came here, I must have forgotten that I'm not Norwegian

I'll never be Norwegian

But ✨️don't worry✨️ they LOVE to remind me of that fact!

So when the law of jante activates in their minds, I'm the "you" and they're the "us"

They don't NEED to listen to me 🎉

I should be thanking the 🌌stars🌌 they even let me stay or hired me at all!

All my experience counts for nothing in a place where people are literally trained to despise and reject anything Different

yesterday i got into a little rabbit hole with a youtuber who makes videos about specifically chinese cosmetic surgery/body modification trends and like most of it is what you'd kind of expect. gawking at women for undergoing extreme and often dangerous face and body altering procedures to adhere to quite frankly cartoon standards of beauty. It's a warning about how unregulated these procedures are and how scammy the industry can get, unsafe procedures becoming even more unsafe.

but when it comes time to make a video about procedures to make waists impossibly thin he still like, in the end fundamentally agrees that being thinner is just like, a natural desire, naturally unquestionably good, and something that is miraculously easy to obtain through diet and excercise, almost as if the procedure is not just bad because it's unsafe or people may scam you, but because it's a cheat. maybe cosmetic surgery is just an easy target for people who definitely still uphold conventional beauty standards in a way that doesn't ask you to deconstruct the values that ultimately pressure people (but largely women) to undergo those procedures. it's good to be fat.

Hey there, I'm Kat. I'm a 32 year old trans woman. Some of you may have seen my posts floating around, or have seen them reblogged by others.

I've been in an incredibly precarious mental state. I've attempted to kill myself three times in the last few days, and part of it is due to the fact that I'm in an oppressive environment that's harming my mental health, and I desperately want out of here. I want to do... something to make myself better. Making this post is my taking that first step to getting better.

I've also been on a waiting list for affordable housing that's tied to my income for nearly two years, however, I can't keep waiting for something to happen. I truly need a place to be where I can feel happy to be who I am, and not where I'm regarded to be an ideology to be believed in, or not...

I currently reside in Ontario, Canada and am looking for a place here, however, if need be, I can relocate to another part of the country, but I likely won't be able to fully afford travel to other parts of the country. I'm also able to provide/split on rent, however, my income is limited, but I can provide enough to make an impact, and make things work.

Hi again. My wife and I are as yall know a trans girl couple, disabled and unemployed, struggling to get employment and just lost the bit of help we'd been getting. Now that rent has gone and emptied our bank account, we have no money for food and our only bed sheet has decided this is the perfect time to rip up. We tried sewing it and new holes have just formed instead, and I don't think it will survive the next wash. If you can contribute to helping us replace it and to helping us Eat!!
