“A cocky Morty can lead to some big problems”

I wonder if we’re gonna get any kind of continuation of this line in the new season.

In hindsight I absolutely believe he wasn’t just talking about Evil Morty in this scene. He knew that Morty was capable of the same kind of thing and that’s why he was always trying to put him down and keep him kinda dependent. Rick probably knew if Morty was even half as capable as his biological Rick he could do some serious damage. Morty leading a revolt with the other Mortys leading to “Evil Rick” being killed was definitely an early sign to Rick that Morty was a lot more capable than originally thought.

For the record, in season 8 alone, Morty has physically attacked Rick three separate times, one of them was premeditated

That’s not mentioning all the other times Morty has talked back to Rick, called his bluff, blatantly insulted him, used unnecessary force in general, or when he quite literally shot him in the head in anger with a gun he didn’t know was fake.

I also saw someone point out Ricks almost shocked expression when Morty had violently shook him back-and-forth as if this is the first time he’s noticing how much Mortys behavior has changed.

I honestly believe that now that he’s not constantly focused on getting revenge with Prime he’s finally able to take a step back and realize that he may have caused a lot more emotional damage to Morty then he though and can’t just apologize his way out of it anymore.

I definitely think this quote could be seen as foreshadowing. Like Morty finally reaching his breaking point with Rick and the rest of his family.

RICK AND MORTY S8 EP1 SPOILERS

PLEASE TELL ME SOMEONE ELSE NOTICED THE EVIL MORTY PARALLELS OH MY GOD

If nothing else, this is absolute proof that the only thing that keeps Morty from crashing out the same way Evil Morty did is a sheer insane amount of patience. He’s clearly more than capable of long-term planning for revenge, and as we’ve seen in more recent seasons, can become highly motivated if he feels like he’s been wronged.

I’ve heard some people say he’s acting more like Evil Morty, but I don’t think that’s quite right. The only thing that made Evil Morty technically evil, other than the mass murders, was becoming sick of Rick and wanted out of the abusive cycle. Morty Prime has always been a lot more intelligent then he gets credit for it’s just become more apparent. Evil Morty isn’t necessarily smarter or more dangerous than Morty Prime, he’s a Morty that stopped hanging on to any attachments to Ricks.

Not to mention Morty Prime has clearly proven to be a serious force of nature when he’s upset. The big difference is Morty Prime typically lashes out violently in emotion when he’s frustrated or upset, while Evil Morty is more cautious and well planned, and when he kills it out of necessity, not for an emotional release. That being said this episode is a great way to show that Morty Prime is capable of careful planning when he wants to.

While Morty might not remember this I absolutely think Rick will and maybe he’ll be more hesitant to really piss Morty off because he’s clearly loosing what little restraint he had. Hoping we get to see him finally get the big crashout he deserves lowkey

OH FUCK ITS HAPPENING

Hopefully Lanyon doesn’t die in this version out of shock. I can’t imagine him taking this well though. Especially considering in a previous panel he asked Henry “you’d tell me if you ever went over your head, right?” and Jekyll responded with “of course.”

He genuinely trusted that Jekyll would tell him if he ever went to far, just to find out he’d been lied to for possibly years.

That not just has Jekyll been basically experimenting on himself, but permanently altered his body and mind, because that was easier then talking to him about how he felt.
