there’s a difference between men calling women “females” in a derogatory way vs women calling themselves female for scientific and medical purposes. the patriarchy has really convinced people that women are inferior for being female so now women are getting attacked for simply stating a biological fact about ourselves.

The only reason forced pregnancy and forced birth is not considered against human rights is because women are not considered humans.

I’ve talked about this a lot but something that I think makes it painfully obvious that men see how horrific both rape and forced impregnation and birth are is the movie Alien (1979). Alien came right behind Roe v Wade, of the Hyde act, serious discussions on pregnancy discrimination, and Commonwealth v Pitchford, where a woman who gave herself an “illegal abortion” with knitting needles was put on trial for manslaughter. All this touches back on the fact that horror is very much tied to public fears and broader societal conversations.

In the making of Alien, H.R. Giger wanted the face hugger to be hermaphrodictic in appearance, but him and dir Ridley Scott both wanted the first victim of the alien to be a man because they knew a man being orally raped and impregnated then murdered by the ‘birth’ of that thing would be more shocking than if it was a woman. They know how horrifying it is. Which somehow makes it more sinister that when it’s women actually experiencing it that isn’t not seen as torture. A man being forcibly impregnated (yes with a monster but it’s a horror movie and that argument goes out the window when they specifically wanted a man as the victim to be more horrific) and killed by it is what made what is widely recognized as one of the best scifi horror films in existence.

They know how horrific it is, they just don’t care because it doesn’t happen to them and because they don’t see women as humans.

i do find it interesting that for 20+ the cast and crew of wicked has talked about how its a love story between glinda and elphaba and how glinda and elphaba "find a soulmate in each other" and how they'll always love each other and be best friends even if they have to be apart and the emotional climax is them singing a ballad about how much they love each other and are glad to have known each other yet you still have people trying to argue that isn't what's happening and elphaba is better off without glinda in her life stop trying to make everything gay. like people are so resistant to the idea of women having complex but ultimately loving and beneficial relationships with each other it's insane

i saw this post a couple days ago and i just can't stop thinking about it. i've been asking the people i'm in dialogue how it's different and nobody has an answer. so tell me how it's different.

talking about mothers

women need and deserve better access to mental health resources in general but for some reason, i specifically keep getting videos and posts of mothers struggling postpartum and it makes me sad. in a society where women are basically screamed at to have kids have kids have kids have kids, there’s little to no support or access to support for these women. for some reason, pregnancy is treated like it’s not “that serious”. but people don’t really realize how intense it is to have a human being GROWING INSIDE OF YOU. how much nutrients that takes from women, how uncomfortable women are (and the added pressure of needing to “bounce back” after pregnancy might i remind you), unsupportive husbands, lack of access to affordable baby essentials— it’s a lot. so if you truly want women to have kids, why do you not take equally as much effort to make sure they’re provided for? to make sure they’re cared for? it’s nonsense just fucking nonsense.

on top of that, mothers are then expected to be absolutely perfect. if their sons fuck up? it’s all her fault and she failed him as a mother. she didn’t hug him enough, didn’t love him enough. doesn’t matter what the dad did, does it? it’s all her fault. it reminds me of when i was a reading “woman hating” and dworkin brought up something that always bothered me about fairy tales: it was always a wicked mom. the dads got absolutely no blame, no fault, EVEN THOUGH they were present:

The father of Hansel and Grethel also had a good heart. When his wite proposed to him that they abandon the children in the forest to starve he protested immediately—“But I really pity the poor children." " When Hansel and Grethel finally escaped the witch and found their way home "they rushed in at the door, and fell on their father's neck. The man had not had a quiet hour since he left his children in the wood [Hansel, after all, was a boyl; but the wife was dead." Do not misunderstand - they did not forgive him, for there was nothing to forgive. All malice originated with the woman. He was a good man.

Though the fairy-tale father marries the evil woman in the first place, has no emotional connection with his child, does not interact in any meaningful way with her, abandons her and worse does not notice when she is dead and gone, he is a figure of male good. He is the patriarch, and as such he is beyond moral law and human decency.

The male is always absolved of any responsibility any time the mother is around. For some reason, them being passive and negligent is allowed (and, to me, basically encouraged), but the mother has to always be absolutely perfect.
