I was able to draft for the first time in years because I have Friday nights off with my new job. I first picked the mythic aether basilisk from aether revolt and forced blue green energy/counters. It was a blast. I had lots of very close grind out games. I ended up going 2-2. It was great to play again after a long hiatus. Limited remains my favorite format by far. I also went to Dennys and played commander with friends after. It was a nice throw back to old times.

Each of the five colors is trying to kill both of their allies. How do they accomplish/attempt this. We assume they don't have magic.

White gets its friends together to take down Green, and just walks up and punches Blue.

Blue sets a trap according to White’s routine and lures Black into another trap.

Black hires someone to murder Blue and poisons Red.

Red sets Black on fire and sets Green on fire.

Green just savagely beats Red and White.

This was morbid.

Pretty excited for BFZ; total Eldrazi girl here. I'm transgender--I want to attend events, but I'm concerned about bad reactions at/from my LGS... I want to have a DCI record and rack up Planeswalker points but... Advice, please?

Community Manager Alison here! I went to Wizards of the Coast’s other Al(l)ison, Alli Medwin, for the answer to this one. In Alli’s words…

I wouldn’t want to lie to her: depending on the region she lives in things might be super hard. There are a couple things that might make things easier, though.

One, trans women have a long history with Magic. We’ve been involved in making the game: I’m the third trans woman to be in R&D (though the only one currently), and the winner of the first Great Designer Search is also a trans women. We’ve been involved in judging: there are at least two trans L3s that immediately come to mind. And we’ve been playing the game in uncounted numbers since 1993. She has a place in the game, and knowing that context may help.

Two, that decent stores will manage the store environment enough that she shouldn’t be openly harassed, but it still might be helpful to bring a friend or two until she can meet people and make friends at the store. And if that’s not true, contacting Retail Support is a good option.

I’d like to add on to Alli’s message that one of WotC’s core values is Inclusivity. We want everyone to feel safe and happy playing our games, and as a Community Manager it’s my job to make sure that everyone feels like they are welcome to play. MTG is full of lots of amazing resources, inspirations and allies – plus us women here at WotC will always have your back. :)

Grab a friend or two and bring them along to your first FNM and let us know how it goes!

Everyone who goes to an event to play Magic should be there to have fun, and part of having fun should be making sure you don’t stop someone else from having fun by making them feel uncomfortable. This goes doubly so at a prerelease of all events.

If you ever come across a scenario where someone’s making you feel unwelcome because you’re trans or a woman or gay or black or asian or whatever, talk to store staff, talk to a judge if there’s one there. We’re here to help you and we want you there playing Magic and having fun.

As the great Bill and Ted once said, “Be excellent to each other.”
