He is the monster rawr rawr rawr
So this is just an idea because I do want to start writing, do people prefer OCs of self inserts? Specifically for Jason Todd and other DC characters? I'm extremely new but wanted to get an idea

i love that tim has no tragic backstory that pushed him towards vigilantism just hero worship and disappointment that batman couldnt get his shit together. like yeah he had absent parents but that was bc he was a teenage comic book character written n conceptualized in the wake of the latchkey kid generation when kids being super independent was like The Thing To Do. he had plenty of friends did well in school was rich n well liked etc etc. Just the most normal of the robins which in turn makes him seem like the biggest freak of them all for choosing to insert himself in all that. God bless america
literally his life was going fine and then he volunteered to ruin it by joining The Cycle
went to miami to recover father sotirios. and made some new friends.
these animals... they are wise. I recruited them to avenge my dear brother. I was then escorted out of the sea world.
Better than the 1596 Marseille dolphin exorcism I suppose.
In 1596 dolphins were infesting the port of Marseille. Back in those days, yâsee, dolphins didnât have the cuddly image they enjoy today. They were pests and were causing damage.
So the cardinal of Avignon sent the bishop of Cavaillon to do something about them. In front of a huge crowd, the bishop sprinkled some holy water into the waters of the port and told the dolphins to begone. Whereupon the dolphins indeed turned tail in terror and fled, and were never seen again.
Still not as dramatic as Saint Bernard excommunicating the flies though.
What happened to the flies?
Saint Bernard of Clairvaux built a monastery in 1124, but it was plagued by flies. So the good saint promptly excommunicated them. By the next day the flied had died in such quantities that they had to be shoveled out.
Still not as nutty as the Basel rooster trial though.
*everyone in unison* um what rooster trial?
In 1474, a rooster in Basel did the heinous and unspeakable act of laying an egg. As everyone knows, an egg laid by a rooster will hatch into a basilisk (or cockatrice).
So to avoid the creation of a cockatrice (or basilisk), the rooster was tried, found guilty, and burned at the stake along with its egg. A huge crowd was present.
The âroosterâ in this case was likely a hen that had developed male characteristics (it happens).
Still not as properly legal as the Savigny pig trial though.
Ok, clearly you want an excuse to talk about the pig thing, and I now DESPERATELY want to hear about the pig thing, so PLEASE tell us about the Pig Thing.
In 1457 a sow killed Jehan Martin, a five-year-old boy in Savigny. For that crime she was put on trial and judged guilty, and sentenced to be hanged from a tree.
Her piglets, however, were judged to have been innocent of the murder, and so were returned to the owner, with the caveat that he had to surrender them to the law if they were later found to have eaten any of the boy.
Not to be confused with a whole bunch of other, similar porcine trials.
I wonât mention the 1454 excommunication of eels in Lake Geneva then.
OK what did the eels do, and more pressingly why were they in communion with the church in the first place
Animals are expected to be part of the Church by default, thatâs why they take excommunication so badly.
Felix Hemmerlinâs treatise on exorcism, cited by e.g. Wagnerâs Historia Naturalis Helvetiae (1680), informs us that around 1221-1229, eels once infested Lake Geneva in huge numbers. So Saint William, bishop of Lausanne, excommunicated them and banned them from the lake, forcing them to live in only one part of it.
Plot twist: as far as we know, Saint William was never bishop of Lausanne.
Thereâs no way you have historical Christianity nonsense more silly than this to share
Iâve been trying to stay on brand and talk about animals only, but sure, few intersections of Christianity and the legal system get sillier thanâŠ
⊠the Cadaver Synod.
Pope Formosus (âGood-lookingâ) was pope from 891 to 896, and apparently accumulated a few enemies. After his successor Boniface VI enjoyed all of a 15-day papacy, the next pope elected was Stephen VI.
And he hated Formosus.
How much? He had the corpse of Formosus exhumed, dressed up in papal vestments, and put on trial for his failings as a pope.
End result? Formosus was found guilty of papal fail. The corpse was stripped of its clothes, three fingers on its right hand were severed (no blessings for u), and it was tied to weights and dumped in the Tiber.
Needless to say Stephen VI came to a sticky end. An angry mob deposed him, he was strangled in prison, and Formosusâs corpse was fished up and reburied with honors. And the later popes passed edicts ensuring this kind of silliness would not happen again.
Tune in next time when I tell you about how a lawyer defended a cityâs entire rat population.
Please, the rats, give us the rats, i beg....
The story of the rats of Autun is also the story of BarthelĂ©my de Chasseneuz (or ChassenĂ©e, etc.), a highly original and highly talented defense lawyer. Thatâs him here.
When the town of Autun was infested by rats in the early 1500s, they were accused of eating the provinceâs barley crop and were duly summoned to be judged in an ecclesiastical court of law. Chasseneuz was the defense attorney.
How do you defend an entire swarm of rats? You donât, is the answer. You delay. Chasseneuzâs original defense was âmy clients live all over the place, one summons wonât be enoughâ. So he got a court summons to be posted in all the infested parishes.
When the rats didnât show up after the elapsed time delay, Chasseneuz proceeded to explain at length why. The rats didnât come to court, he said, because of their enemies the cats, which are everywhere and always vigilant and hungry. âYou cannot expect my clients to undertake a journey which would put them in mortal dangerâ, he argued in complete seriousness. âThus they have the legal right to turn down a summons that endangers themâ.
As far as we know, the rats never did appear in court, and remained unprosecuted.
Chasseneuz went on to have a distinguished career as a lawyer and was allegedly killed by a poisoned bouquet of flowers.

jason, suffering from blood loss and getting stitched up by alfred in the cave's medbay: worth it đ
Reblog to have something lgbt happen to you this summer
the debate between Jason and Bruceâs killing/no-killing rule is so fucking exhausting because theyâre both right and thatâs the damn point. Bruce believes every single individual is worth redemption and deserves saving and he is correct. Jason believes that a bunch of people shouldnât have to die so that one person has the chance to get their shit together and he is correct. do you see it? do you get it now? there is no right answer because thatâs not how this works, thatâs not how any of this works, Bruce is right when he says Jason canât decide who to kill because a lot of Gothamâs villains are themselves victims and when you have a system constantly failing people unless you fix that system itâs just gonna keep creating villains no matter how many you kill and Jason will never be able to put the gun down once he starts, Jason is right when he says sparing the Jokers life directly led to the death of dozens if not hundred of people that might still be alive if someone put a bullet through the Jokers skull, it is if nothing else a fast solution. it was cruel of Jason to ask Bruce to kill the Joker, it was cruel of Bruce to save the Joker from Jason
lets talk about something else, lets go into how Jasonâs reaction to dying and coming back is to go âhey you failed me. not because i died but because you canât love me in any way i recognize and thatâs killing me, you failed me so iâm going to do better than you ever did. i saved myself except i didnât because iâm still drowning and i donât trust that youâll ever be capable of saving me againâ
the morality of batman vs red hoods methods is almost the least interesting thing about their rocky relationship câmon
so I think this is worth exploring. especially because on most levels I agree with you, Bruce doesnât think the Joker is a good person or will ever be a good person. and I absolutely think Bruce is stubborn enough to refuse to give the Joker what he wants (and as a side note thatâs hilarious thank you for pointing it out) (second side note YES PLZ his own trauma over death IS a good enough reason to refuse to kill the Joker on itâs own). âeverybody losesâ is a good enough reason not to kill the Joker and itâs one that I think is overlooked a lot, but the thing about redemption and rehabilitation is that if you give up on it because itâs personal what right do you have to stop anyone else to whom itâs personal? why do you get to chose who is redeemed and who isnât based on who hurt you? this is important because Bruce is in a position of power that helps decide who is receiving support. he cannot abuse it, he cannot make it personal.
Bruce does his best to help Harley, he does his best to help Two-face, both of whom have killed people and probably someoneâs son at one point. the parents of the people theyâve killed likely also think thereâs no redeeming them, that thereâs nothing good about them. redemption has to be an internal choice, Bruce recognizes that. part of his âwe donât get to decide who lives and who dies/weâre not judge, jury, and executionerâ IS âi donât get to decide who deserves redemption.â because it CANNOT be personal when youâre the one deciding who gets help. and thatâs really hard!!! thatâs so fucking hard!!! compassion and belief in redemption is easy when someone hasnât hurt you and I admire the fuck out of Batman for continuing to extend his hand to the people that bite him. this is at the heart of Jasonâs conflict with Bruce. Jason Todd is a very emotional person who feels things very deeply and is very bad at separating himself from the situation (this isnât a bad thing! and you are wrong if you think it is!) and his inability to see redemption as impersonal is part of his conflict with Bruce and the Joker. Also, obviously, by the fact that he is the main victim.
Bruce doesnât want to think the Joker is redeemable but in his position he has to.
and listen, you can disagree with me! iâm making an extremely philosophical argument that is open to interpretation both on the means of what redemption is and Bruceâs character, both are wildly subjective. but i mean it when i say Batman thinks everyone is worth redemption, no exceptions.

OH MY GOD IT LOOKS SO GOOD
The Museum of Science in Boston has been raising funds to build a statue in memorial to Leonard Nimoy (who loved the museum and grew up right near it) and Iâm SHOCKED at how far they still have to go. Leonard Nimoy was an activist, a proud Jew who inspired so many other Jewish people to be proud of their heritage, and a lover of science, art, and curiosity. If anyone deserves a statue in their honor at the museum he loved, itâs him.
The Museum of Science is a wonderful organization. They support local programs, theyâre partnered with the New England Aquarium, they hand out free passes all the time (I got a bunch at the Dyke March last year), they tell the truth and strive to be diverse and accessible (they let people borrow wheelchairs and ECVâs for free!) and they run on community support. Please share their fundraiser!
{{MetaTags.description}}
I understand if itâs more important to you to share fundraisers for individuals in need. It is a very noble thing to do, and I think Leonard would agree. If you care about this though, everything is appreciated, and I know he has a lot of love on this website.
The MOS is incredible. All of their newer exhibits are bilingual. They are body positive and often host events on exercise which include fat, non-binary folks and ND people.
During the shutdown, they offered free passes to all people with EBT benefits. This means every school child (we were all eligible for EBT) and their families in had free access to the museum.
If you can, throw the MOS some change. â€ïžâ€ïž
