Asher (no surname provided) is wanted by the empire for stealing valuables from the homes of court ladies (and the occasional gentleman) after stealing their ‘virtue’. In the past couple years alone he’s taken irreplaceable heirlooms and priceless artifacts…. and almost 10k in [currency]. Luckily for him, no one has been brave enough to call him out for fear of their own dignity.

a sole survivor who invents a new identity is so fascinating. it would be really tough to pretend to be a wasteland native having grown up pre-war, I imagine there's a bunch of cultural differences.

does Hadley have the usual canon starting point w Nora and Shaun, or have you made changes to that? also, you say in one post he blames himself for the bombs...?

Thank you! It always seemed weird to me that the first thing you do after leaving your cryo vault is advertise the fact that you’re from the past… like that’s exactly how you get scammed out of all your money/attacked.

Hadley has no idea what rad storms are, doesn’t understand the value of a bottle cap, and had never seen a ghoul/feral until he came across the recon squad at the Cambridge police station.

Being frozen for 200 years and waking up alone in this new apocalyptic future has him in such a blind panic that he completely misses the Codsworth interaction and goes straight to the Minutemen trapped in the Concord Museum. That means he doesn’t read any terminals or get any info that time has passed at all; he believes that it’s only been a couple of months/barely a year since the bombs fell. Until the Minutemen travel back to Sanctuary and they find Codsworth trapped under the rubble of his old house, he’s still acting like the harmless Pre War movie star he’s been pretending to be; Garvey and Sturges just treat him like some kind of mad man/don’t correct him until they find the vault.

As soon as he learns that everyone who ever knew him had died long ago, he drops the act immediately and abandons Sanctuary to hopefully find his son in Diamond City. All of his knowledge of this new world comes exclusively from his slightly malfunctioning robot, and being vague/dancing around answers.

This is when Pushing Buttons takes place!

As for his like family/backstory, he had a wife, Valerie/Val Taylor, who was a decorated soldier (he has a thing for the military I guess) and is my melee/charisma build in an AU where she survives instead of him, along with a son, Shaun, who was around 3 years old when the bombs fell.

Hadley was in fact a spy, but he wasn’t allied to anyone, choosing instead to feed information to both sides during the war. He always figured that neither side would attack due to the potentially devastating consequences, so he might as well make a profit from it… He feels extremely guilty because of this, and copes with it by abusing daytripper.

James (Jamie) Hadley is a wandering tech-enthusiast from out west, past the mountain, who was born and raised entirely in a General Atomics superstore. His love of machines and unique accent both stem from being brought up almost exclusively by Mr. Handys and Ms. Nannys.

He’s traveling the wasteland, fixing up robots, hacking terminals, and picking locks along the way in search of a better life, one that comes with a higher standard of living than scavenged 200 year old canned goods and handmade pipe weapons. Power armor in particular is something he’s very interested in; he studied all the catalogues, military brochures, schematics, and propaganda films to know how everything comes together to function. He needs a suit of his own.

As for the mask; it’s for religious reasons.

There is however a perfect genetic match between him and another man by the name of Nathaniel Taylor.

The suave, smooth-talking, Pre-War movie star Nathaniel Taylor, who, within the past 200 years survived a nuclear apocalypse and became the acting General of the Minutemen’s steadily growing militia. He’s also an open supporter of the Railroad and one of the loudest voices in opposition towards the Brotherhood’s presence in Boston.

People say he was actually Pre-War spy, and that he’s looking for a functioning suit of power armor to take him safely through the Glowing Sea to access top secret files somewhere within the irradiated wasteland.
