The thing that I find so exhausting about "if the roles were reversed" is that the roles will NEVER truly be reversed. There is too great a difference between a man doing something, his motivations, his capabilities, and a woman doing something with her motivations and capabilities. Fundamentally a woman breaking a restraining order to show up at her ex's wedding will never be the same threat as a man doing the same. Not when women commit only 10-20% of violent crimes and carry guns at half the percentage men do. Not when the average man can overpower the average woman.
We did meet. Nineteen years ago. I was 8, you were 9. Outside the temple. The Wong boys were taunting me about my parents’ divorce. You beat the crap out of them. You were wearing a Kristy McNichol t-shirt, tan cords and a pageboy. You spilled your mom’s groceries. We scooped them into a bag. And then I kissed you…on the nose. And you ran.
SAVING FACE (2004) dir. Alice Wu
I’ve talked about Hasan’s open misogyny before but no, it’s actually still not talked about enough that arguably the internet’s biggest leftist “influencer” openly dismisses misogyny and hates women. His attitude towards women alone should have gotten him ostracized from leftist spaces—spaces where people are regularly kicked out for using the wrong terminology or not going along with ridiculous, maximalist positions—but this is what happens when men on the left say feminism is, at best, a distraction from class politics, and at worst, the whining of bitch white Karens.
And you know, obviously women and girls in Afghanistan face much more oppression than being banned from going to school, but even if the Taliban’s misogyny ended there, how dare some piece of shit, nepo baby man who sits online all day act like it’s no big deal that women are denied education just because they’re women. Again, this is only tolerated in a political environment that has rejected feminism and welcomed misogyny, and more women in leftist spaces need to wake up to how misogynistic these men are. Being a pick-me and pretending misogyny doesn’t matter will not save you and will not make leftist men like Hasan take your rights any more seriously

so much of people's need for identity is rooted in wanting 2 control others' perception of them ... let it go
Butch character: [exists]
Way, way too many people, many of whom are women who genuinely consider themselves feminists: “Well, actually, this is bad representation because it suggests that women need to be like men to be strong. It would be better if she were more stereotypically feminine. Female characters wearing combat boots or practical clothing to a fight just sends the message that women wearing high heels and ballgowns are not dressed for rigorous athletic feats. It’s actually more empowering to show that women can have full faces of perfect makeup and be sexy and feminine at all times and prioritize their appearance, even when they’re hacking their way through aliens 24/7.”
#hot take but like at least 80% of what people call ‘masculine’ or ‘mannish’ is just. neutral.
Not shaving. Not wearing makeup. Choosing clothes and shoes based primarily on comfort and/or practicality. Not excessively styling hair, and/or having a low-effort (short) haircut. These are all neutral actions or inaction. They are easier and often healthier for a person than the traditionally feminine alternatives. Think about whose agenda you’re serving when you posit that just existing in your natural body is “masculine” and one must put in significant conscious effort each day to be sufficiently “feminine.” Think about whose agenda you’re serving when you insist that female representation in media must always be high-effort feminine.

i dont think straight people should be allowed to do "enemies to lovers" i think if a man is your enemy you need to trust that you were correct the first time and slay him in battle
“But he has his whole life in front of him! His career is just beginning!” That is the point. Demolish any chance he has left of living a normal life or pursuing a career. Why should a rapist, abuser, and/or pedophile, the scum of the earth, be able to continue his life with nothing more than a slap on the wrist, while the innocent victims are robbed of theirs — often in the literal sense when the trauma has driven them to suicide? And their autonomy, hope, trust, and dignity eroded? This is why I will never take you seriously if you tell me the damage fake accusations have on men is as equally severe as the actual crime. Whether it’s merely one person’s words, or concrete evidence - society and the justice system will ensure that a man will never feel the consequences of the pain he’s inflicted on women. This take should not be considered even remotely radical.
The way conservative and liberal men will weaponize pedophilia against each other but are actually not really against it. Like,
Conservative men: Of course pedophilia is wrong! It's sexually deviant! It's harming our precious children! But they'll hum and haw about child marriage.
Liberal men: Of course child molestation is wrong! Look at all those priests abusing their power against the powerless! But they'll hum and haw about the age of consent or restricting the sex industry.
Notice how both also defend the perpetrators not getting adequate sentences?
Conservative, so-called "tough on crime" men: Well, you can't let one mistake ruin a man's life! He's a good neighbour/a man of god/good at sports! Really, can you blame him? She acted older for her age!
Liberal, so-called "feminist ally" men: We have to get away from punishment. People change their ways when met with compassion and understanding. He seems remorseful and willing to change. His victim of course should have therapy, but there's no need to punish him so severely. It won't take away what's happened.
Conservative men when it keeps happening: Well...he's...sick! He needs help. He needs to come back to God.
Liberal men when it keeps happening: He suffers from depression and economic stressors. Really the fault is with society.
